Are any of you Cosplayers? I've always been kind of interested in wearing some really sweet costumes but too afraid to try it out. It helps that I've never attended a convention.
So I want to know:
Do you Cosplay or wear other sorts of costumes (IE storm troppers, Mr. Spock, Gandalf, etc)
If so how long have you been doing it? How many characters have you done? Do you make costumes or buy them? Do you only do characters that bear some physical resmeblance to you or do you go for anything you want?
If you don't Cosplay, why don't you? Would you if money and time weren't an issue?

As I said in the opening post, I don't do costumes.
1. Because I don't go anywhere they'd be appropriate 2. Because I'm incredibly shy in groups settings and that would be drawing attention to myself. 3. Because I'm deathly afraid I'd look really awful and would end up all over the internet being made fun of.
If I had infinite money and skill I might be able to convince myself to create something fantastic for a special event. But it's a pretty good possibility that I'd just chicken out.

There is a part of me that would love to do costumes, but for the most part I know I would just look dumb in them. It helps that most of the characters I would want to do are either male, have skimpy outfits, or incredibly complicated outfits.
Maybe one day, if I ever end up going to a convention.

I always see loads of pictures of great cosplayers and am in awe of their skill. Though I think even with an expertly executed outfit I'd look silly.

Cosplaying as a star trek character seems more feasible to me somehow. Maybe because I've seen people doing it for so long that it's hard to feel as silly.

I love to make costumes and wear them to school and just out and about. I've been making costumes of characters since I was six but I haven't actually managed to work up the self confidence to wear them around two years ago. Once I started wearing them around I end up where I just hate to wear anything "normal" so to speak.
I have three costumes for dressing as Josephine Grant from Doctor Who. I have the ones from Day of the Daleks, The Three Doctos, and The Sea Devils. I bought some of the pieces for the outfits from vintage shops and second-hand clothing shops but some pieces I needed to make because I couldn't find them.
I also have a costume for dressing as Romana from Doctor Who. The outfit when she dressed up like the Doctor and the pink one she wore after that in Destiny of the Daleks.
Then there's the costume I made last year for Maguna Flamedancer from the WTF Comics (a web comic series). That one I had to make completely from scratch because she has a very unqiue lavender dress. I didn't manage to make her fire staff. =/ I wore it for halloween after I finished it and even died my hair and got gold contacts so I would look just like her.
I'm currently working on costume to dress up as Sam Carter from Stargate SG-1.

Yes, I cosplay! I love it a lot~ It's really fun for me to be able to get out and be someone else for awhile. It's also a great way to meet others that have similar interests as yourself.
If so how long have you been doing it? I've been cosplaying for about... 4 years now? o.o
How many characters have you done? Around 8.
Do you make costumes or buy them? I've only ever bought one costume and regretted it. Other than that, I've made every other cosplay I own.
Do you only do characters that bear some physical resemblance to you or do you go for anything you want? I basically go for anyone I want to be. I don't think cosplaying should be about if you have the right face or body type for a character. You should cosplay a character because you love them.

Oh I love cosplayers and cosplay. Unfortunately I have literally no patience so all my cosplays have to be the sort that you can put together by scavanging at Thrift Stores and doing minor alterations (there are more such costumes than you would think).
My newest one will be 90's Kon-el (Superboy) for Rose City Comic Con in September to match the Tim Drake (Robin) my friend is doing for Fanime in a few months. She's much more patient than I and has been runing around in a completely self-made Robin suit for about a week now.
I happen to be a very rare skin color in comics and anime so.... yeah no. I try to make sure that anyone even vaguely glancing in my direction will be able to tell I'm in cosplay and those knowledgeable about the fandom will recognize my character.
My friend and I do matching cosplay (even though we no longer live anywhere near each other) to make people uncomfortable ("...are you doing guy on guy because that's your character or is this girl on girl....?") and there's quite the list.
I've been L to her Raito (Death Note) Mikami to her Raito (Death Note) Kuro to her Fai (Tsubasa) Axel to her Roxas (Kingdom Hearts) Kaoru to her Hikari (Host Club) Hatori to her Ayame (Fruits Basket) Krad to her Satoshi (DNAngel) Farfarello to her Nagi (Weiss Kreuz) Eiri to her Tohma (Gravitation) Seto to her Joey (Yugioh) Marik to her Yami (Yugioh) Rutherford and Kyousuke (Spiral) Kakashi and Iruka (Naruto) Envy and Ed (FMA) Muraki and Tsuzuki (Descendents of Darkness) alone I was a very short Sesshoumaru (Inuyasha), Maggie (ROD), Severus Snape (HP), I was a fan character called Veserus Snape, UnderTaker (Black Butler and the only costume I've actually bought), and Mort Rainey (Secret Window).
Obviously most of those came about from us playing around in our closets and realizing we had the same day clothes as some characters, and some were far more detailed than others, but I count them as Cosplays.
