Our last away game ( which was about 3 weeks ago )
was at Escambia.

That entire day was terrible for all of us. It rained all day, we were having stress issues because competition was just one week away, and we were all really moody.

Anyway, when we arrived at the other school. We had to wait 20 minutes so they could get one of the lights to start working.
Then we started playing stand music. It was not sounding so hot.

Then when we performed at half time.We had so many tears, we were out of tune. And I'm sure the marching sucked as well. Everything was wrong. So when we finished, we sat on the sideline and watched Escambia's band perform.

Ofcourse they did perfect, so that made us feel terrible. And while we marching back to the stands, the announcer was like "Wow, Escambia, that was the best performance I've ever seen!"

Which made us feel worse.

Then we were in the stands playing, when our director called for all of bus one to go back to their bus. (that's the color guards bus) So the rest of the band was like "wtf?" so when the Color guard came back, they had their stuff with them, & some of them were really upset.

They explained that their stuff had been gone through, and some of their stuff had been stolen.

So we're all scared and nervous wondering and hoping that bus one was the only bus.

Well, ten minutes later. Our director called for bus two. ( about 30 band kids )

So as you know, we're all freaking out. But bus two people never came back.

From that point on, our BD has us play every song we knew. Over and over. We knew he was trying to keep our minds off of what was going on.

But that was impossible.

So the game ended and our BD announces that some one has broken into a few of our buses and that one of our chaperons tried to chase him down, but when he jumped the 7ft fence ( with a bad knee ) he lost the guy, and the cars parked behind the buses wouldnt tell him where the guy went. but they found some of stuff down the street.

Devastated, we march out headed for the buses.
And as we are marching back, our director calls for Bus 3 to go and check their stuff.

While we packed our instruments up the Escambia county's sheriff department shows up, and we find out that the stuff on bus two has been stolen also.

Then our director commands that bus 4 and 5 go and check our stuff.

The Burglar(s) managed to get to every bus.

Stealing cell phones, mp3 players, car keys, money, camera's, bank cards, helmet boxes, wallets, beef jerky and they even ate some ones sub sandwich from Arby's.

Behind them, they left Marijuana, a T-shirt and a snickers bar.

Most of the girls were crying, while the guys were angry.

We didn't leave till about an hour after we were suppose to.

That was a terrible day.

It was in the news paper http://www.srpressgazette.com/news/band-8408-game-members.html

But we managed to receive Superior Ratings at the Troy, Alabama Marching Festival last week, and again Last night at The Florida Bandmasters Association Competition.

That's us last week at Troy.

A group of Southern Hicks through rocks at our tuba when we were standing on the sidelines waiting for half-time...

Whats wierd is that the whole crowd for the home team was sitting in the grass next to the stands instead of IN them D:

In the end, our director never brought us back there lol

well,we had to wear our whole uniforms to the game, and i twas raining and hot, when we got there we had to sit on the bus for an hour to wait for the rain to stop, then when we finally got off,we had to walk across a highway to the stadium.then the seat were wooden and scary, and the mosquitos kept biting us,then right after we did our show we left.
i don't know what the point of even going was,we stayed there for a total of like five 20 minutes.

Thats sad. It doesn't make sense that someone would want to steal somethign from a band bus. Yes, belongings are there, but seriously. Its bad enough people steal in the first place.

Apparently we used to go to an away game at Cholla high school, but apparently they always threw drinks and food at us. We don't go anymore(this was before I came)

We went to a school for our last away game, and their school was an EXACT replica of our school. It was creepy. We were like "When did we leave and get back?!" Because the easiest way to get to the buses(without walking through a now busy parking lot) was directly through the school, so of course we went through the school. Everything was in the exact same spots. We all probably could have found our own way through, without an escort from the other band. It was weird

I don't recall anything really bad ever happening. I think the most exciting thing was one time a huge storm came over and we got in the buses and left.

The rudest comments we ever received were actually at home games. When we'd line up to go to our performance at half time we were always standing in front of the away team's side. A few times they tried to say things to distract us.

So for some odd reason ( Maybe the rain ) the marching bands weren't gonna play during half time. So we had to wait till the end. Since it was a home game, The other band was first. We all stayed for their little performance. Then it was our turn. But by the time we got on the field, other band/team were on the busses and off they went!!! They left us! Then half of our guests left! It was empty! We were mad that day....In the rain.

Off topic, but you misspelled Buses the same way my bD did today! XD

our league has a traditional and high stakes game against a serious rival school that our band HAS to attend to fuel the fire (pep up the team, the crowd, and of course anger the opposing side)

let's just say, it's an interesting bus ride when you have 2 police escorts for each 3 buses, you're warned to keep your window up, face away from it, DON'T make noise once in the rival city, and watch your head for flying rocks and other trash.

let's just say there's a reason we skip their parade every year. except this year... yikes

The last game of the season, we went to McKinley, with whom our school has a ridiculously huge rivalry.

They played music through the sound system quite often, which was annoying when we were trying to play. Our BD later told us a fun little story. Our announcer was in the press box, but none of the McKinley people noticed him. And he overheard them saying they were playing stuff on purpose to drown us out.

They even played during our alma mater. Real nice.

On a different note, we do the Hall of Fame parade every year through Canton, where they're from. And it is a common thing to be barked at. [their mascot's a bulldog]

This year, I had an old lady bark at me, and a big scary army looking guy get all up in my face.

And they throw things. Like batteries. It's not fun. ):

Edit: OH. And a man dressed as Ronald McDonald came up and started conducting the band while we were playing in the stands. That part was amusing. XD

We can't go into our rival's stands to watch their half time show when the game is away. It is too dangerous. the band kids are nice though, because it is only a few mins away, so almost all of the kids in both our bands came from the same middle school. This year it is home though. I wonder if it is safe for them to go into our stands. Not sure. Usually the band friends and families are nearby during our games, so they should be a bit safer. it also helps that the twins' dad is a police officer. He was our body guard at the two away games we had against them last year(We lost the first in real season, won the rematch during playoffs)

And I forgot to mention before that the replica school is our marching rivals. Cool people, terrible band. Yet they got a superior with distinction at state last year. And they did terrible. We got an excellent and it was our best performance. We were pissed.

Wow, whats with all the mean people doing mean things to the bands? We always make friends with the other bands, well except for our rival (our band director left us and went to their school). But once some football players from the other team ran into us...which hurt...lol

One of our rivalry games this year was away, and the other band was really nice to us. They applauded our performance and at halftime brought us goody bags with cute little pictures drawn on them. I actually felt bad that we had booed their pregame show.

That's like our lesser rivalry though. We have two other rivals that we hate much more, haha.

When I went to the game at Verdugo Hills, the visitor and home bleachers were right next to each other, so we were talking to each other and trying to play each other's songs the entire time. Then the announcer for the game said "Find yourself a cheerleader: Hand her a dollar and she'll give you a ticket."

Then at Van Nuys, our drum major was Band-Ten-Hut-Happy, so this group of tall guys told us to "Shut the ******** Up." She almost kicked all of their arses.
