Name: Jaylin, honorized to J'lin Age: 15 Gender: Male Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual (if and only if he can get over himself) Craft: Wrighting Rank: Apprentice/Candidate
History: Through and through, Jaylin is a true weyrbrat. His parents, whoever they are, entrusted him to the care of the Weyr when he was young, leaving him to speculate about them. Was one a journeyman, the other a dragonrider? Or perhaps one was a runner, passing through when they met the other holdmember? Either way, Jaylin doesn't spend too much time thinking about them. That's for the Harpers to do!
As far as apprenticeship goes, Jaylin was most drawn to wrighting. To him, it's a little bit of everything and more. Why settle for one trade when you can do a bit of all and get to walk around the Weyr? To him, it beats sitting in a room all day long.
Appearance: This weyrbrat is somewhat below average in height, making it seem as if he quite literally obtained the short end of the genetics stick. His broad frame and lack of any distinct curves make it thankfully difficult for him to be mistaken as a girl. To a point, that is. While his work as a Smithcraft apprentice allows him to put on muscle, it does not save him from any accidental run-ins from people approaching him from behind, assuming his short dark red-haired ponytail belonging to a girl.
To thwart this from ever happening (again), Jaylin has attempted to grow a beard, or some form of facial hair of any sort. So far, he has managed to give himself enough scruff to appear masculine, but not enough to properly shave it and shape it into any desired shape.
Personality: Jaylin's world revolves around Jaylin. Confident, crass, and full of himself to the point that it's quite a wonder that his own ego hasn't crushed him. He isn't afraid to speak his mind, and makes a point to be "in the know," often lording and boasting about his accomplishments to other weyrbrats. Jaylin prefers to intimidate others than resort to violence, as past experiences proved to him how grueling punishment for fighting can be.
Around adults and others of rank, however, Jaylin is just the perfect little weyrbrat. Obedient, quiet, and diligent -- he waits until the craftsman he is working under to turn away before glaring at the other candidates, just waiting for them to say something. Anything. He'll get them back later, through rumors or delightfully horrid pranks. Free time's the best time to go for a walk and collect things to place in other brat's beds, afterall!
Bottomline: Jaylin is distrustful and wary of other people. Never knowing his parents and ridiculed by his peers for his size, he simply does what it takes to get by day by day.
Other: Jaylin is short and wants to know wutchu lookin at. =|

Green Deprith JAYLIN! I heard you out here, acting a fool! I will not allow this behavior anymore! Stand up straight and come get your Deprith, and don't you DARE embarrass me while you do!Deprith is inspired by the song Like It or Leave It by Aly & AJ and colored by Chibi Sheepcat. What? You don't think she's good enough for you because she's a green? Please. Deprith plans to put Hers in his place. He is Hers, and he best remember that from now on. She picked him and that means he belongs to her. So many times will she complain about the self-centered, loud, obnoxious, all around dreadful type of men in the Weyr. Yet not only is she drawn to them, she picked one for her rider. A lot of guys would be content just to say she's a woman so she doesn't have to make sense and leave it at that. Those males are good boys in her book. Deprith appreciates their above average intelligence on the matter.
Really, she does have a reason, one she herself may never be aware of. Deprith gets a sense of satisfaction in making seemingly unchangeable men lose their cool because of her. If they actually do change, then she'll be even more smug, but if not, it doesn't matter as long as she makes them trip over themselves, so to speak. These are the times she feels most valuable to the world, because if she can best the best, what could stop her? On the other hand, if someone turns the tables on her, Deprith will become venomously angry.
Hers won't have time to fight with anyone between fighting with Deprith. She acts more like his mother than his dragon. Sit down, she tells him. Behave, she says. And just what were thinking making eyes at that girl like that, young man?! You should only have eyes for her! Compliments are like food to Deprith; she needs them to survive. Being told she's pretty is her favorite past time second only to flights. She'll rise twice as often as other greens when she's old enough just to hog the spotlight.
Deprith never asks herself if she's worthy of someone's time. On the contrary, she ponders if they're worthy of hers. She considers herself a sort of queen bee among the greens, and why shouldn't she? Being strong and fast, she'll last an entire threadfall while those other greens are down for the count. Getting lazy is not a problem for her and it won't be for her rider from this point on. She has a lot to do, including showing up Lofrewth in her one-sided rivalry until Nachith sees how much better she is! But why?! In spite of her, um, very loud exterior, Deprith does care about others. She's convinced Jaylin needs to be set straight, and she's more convinced no one but her can do it! His ego-centric, (in her view) "typical" male persona is just the type she needs to be happy. A rider that just submits to Deprith is not acceptable, and you can't honestly expect her to share the spotlight with another female, can you?
They'll argue a lot, but each time will only make their bond stronger. Jaylin will become the most upstanding gent of the ages with Deprith here to help him!
--HEY! Don't roll your eyes at her, boy! She saw that!

J'lin: Amelia, rider of Sharath - It's hard to believe she's Sharath's rider! She's very friendly. Gold Sharath: - ...meep. I do NOT want to get on her bad side! She's scary enough as it is!
Deprith: Blue Nachith - If only he would look this way... Nachith! Your Deprith is waiting for you! NACHIIIIIIIIITH! Green Lofrewth - Hmph! A silly dragoness, not worthy of Nachith's attentions! Amelia, rider of Sharath - I nice, sensible woman. J'lin could learn much from her. Gold Sharath: - The Queen shares my view on men. I think with her assistance, J'lin will learn his place faster.
