I thought we needed some new topics. So, first up conventions.
Discuss:
Have you ever been to any sort of fan convention (star trek, anime, game, comic, etc)?
If so why do you like them? Is it the other fans, the shopping, the special guests or something else?
Are there any conventions you attend yearly?
If not would you consider attending one if time/money and travel weren't issues?

I've never been to a convention. I've always been a shy and solitary geek. If I went it would only be to shop. I'm far too socially awkward to hang out with other geeks most of the time. I'd probably be too shy to want to meet the guest either even though in theory I think it'd be great.
If money and traveling weren't an issue I'd got to AX and Otakon because I'm guessing those would have the greatest selections of unique items I'd want.

The only reason I could see going to a convention would be for a certain band, or for all the cels that dealers don't put up on their site. . .

So back when we had more disposable income I was always upset that some cels never saw the digital light of day. Now that we're broke all the time, I'm glad we don't have the temptation.

I'd go to conventions if I had the necessary disposable income for it. 3nodding Con goodies and costumes don't come cheap, after all, and with the economy the way it is, it's getting harder and harder just to buy the essentials. xp

I don't go to cons but, someone on LJ was just talking about all the great stuff they bought at a con not to long ago. That's the one thing that makes me really sad about not going to conventions all the great stuff I miss.
