He had no memory of anything. Well, at least nothing after he took this first few shaky steps towards that upset Blue, and as Panata struggled to open his eyes he found that the cover above him was something entirely unfamiliar.

Where. . .? The hatching . . . ?

Panata tried to sit up in an effort to get a better look around, the sounds of this place so entirely new he didn't know where he was, though a sharp stab made him realize that he couldn't move. He thought for a moment he was tied down, something was pressed on him so he couldn't even move his neck, but it seemed that nothing of the sort was occurring - he simply just could not move.

A wave of panic quickly washed over him along with spasms of pain that roared from both of his sides, not just the one from the Bronze, leaving the boy to cry out piteously. Tears sprang at the corners of his eyes and quickly flowed down the sides of his face, pattering against the bed he lay on.

What happened? Why can't I move?

Such thoughts filled his mind as he cried in the bed, unaware that his sounds may have been disturbing to anyone else who happened in. He didn't know the rampage the Blue had gone on, so anything else would be news to him.

Arolon stumbled in with a sand-covered broken and bleeding arm. The sleeve was shredded. He sat on a bed next to another injured candidate who appeared to be crying. He was on the verge of a panic attack cause he knew what was coming. Even if they found a way to numb his arm, they needed to put the bones in the right position again or it wouldn't heal properly. This was going to hurt alot. Not to mention the sand needed to be washed away, which would hurt too no matter how gentle they tried to be. The mighty and fearless weyrbred boy was scared, though if you asked he'd deny it.

"You okay man? Need me to get the healers for something to numb that?" He asked, knowing this candidate was more serious than his injuries were. Did the man even know that the blue had impressed? Would he care after recieving all that damage? "You should stay down, your pretty banged up." He commented, trying to hold his arm still as he laid down.

Not in the mood for feasting after the events on the sand Nadia wondered around the Wyer for a bit, sliping into the kitchen to grab some sweetbread and extra bits of meat, she wrapped them up and put it into the pocket of her pants. Having traded the hot heavy candidate robe for her pants and loose shirt she felt much better then before.

Pulling out a bit of meat she nibbled on it as she wondered making sure to stay out of the way as workers went back and forth dealing with the feast and the aftermath of the hatching when the sounds of someone crying entered her ears. Pausing she listened and after a pause she inched toward the doors where the sound was coming from and poked her head around into look inside... it was that boy, the one who got attacked twice by the dragons.

Glancing around she didn't see any healers nearby and afraid that he would hurt himself further she stepped closer.

"Hey.... Its okay, just relax before you hurt yourself more."

Panata couldn't see who was speaking to him unless they stood directly over him, even moving his neck sending waves of pain that he didn't want. All he could hear were voices, one male and one female, and his sniffed a bit as he tried to bite back the tears that freely fell. It was embarrassing, but he was also hurt pretty badly - more than he thought he was if the others were talking to him like they were.

He opened his mouth to speak but could only croak, his voice locked in his throat and his vision slowly swimming with the aches and pains that echoed over him.

- - -

"He can't move to look at you, so you'll have to move towards him."

From another spot in the room came Leicha's icy words, his voice softer than it had been while yelling out on the sands, though it still held the same harshness. A bandage covered one side his face and one of his arms, another decorating his torso. With his shirt off it was clear to see the wound was large, he looked like someone had tried to wrap him from head to toe, and parts of the cloth were slight hues of red and pink.

"He probably can't talk either, which isn't surprising. He's lucky they didn't get his lungs or throat, like it did to those others."

Sellae stumbled in not long behind Nadia, arms empty and legs bandaged heavily. She stared at Panata for a minute, remembering the way he had been lying across the sand.

Blood. Blood everywhere.

All over her skin.

Her eyes were blank, helpless, and she had blood dripping from what clearly looked like self-inflicted wounds. Had she tried to scrub herself to death?

She sat down in one of the corners, burying her head in her arms. She didn't speak a word. She could see it behind her eyelids, the way it had splashed all over the sand. She listened to the other Candidates speak, still silent.

Nadia glanced up surprised to hear Leicha's voice, she didn't see him when she looked in earlier, nodding at him she moved so that she was standing over Panata looking down at him smiling gently as she tried not to flinch at just how injured he was.

"Hello, sorry I didn't mean to cause you more harm. My name is Nadia." She glanced back at Leicha for a second before turning back to Panata. "Don't worry, you'll be okay... its just going to be awhile before you feel like it." She looked at him apologetically.

Turning away from Panata she looked at Leicha and spotted the blood stains on his bandages. "Are you alright? Did you want me to get someone?"

Suddenly Sanae stumbled in, Nadia watched as she paled further at the sight Panata and then through herself on to one of the beds. Chewing her lips she glanced at Leicha before deciding that Sanae seemed like she was having bigger issues. Grabing a blanket off on of the empty beds she wrapped it around Sanae's shoulders and gently rubbed them as Nadia glanced around the room taking in the injured.

All he uttered was a croak. Leicha explained why, it was understandable. Leicha looked like he got in a fight with his bandages and they were now trying to smother him. He supposed Panata would be next when the healers came around with enough wrappings. "Think a drink a water might help with his voice?" He sat up stiffly, hissing as his arm throbbed. Now away from the heat he wasn't so dizzy and could walk better. He shuffled closer to Panata and looked down at his face, eyebrows scrunching with concern.

That blue had almost seemed evil, he was still shocked that Janga had punched him and gotten away with it. Then even impressed to it while they had gotten the sour end of the deal for trying to help it. That was gratitude for you, that dragon hadn't wanted help. It was hard to keep to the rules of not interfereing when the hatchling screamed and went on a killing spree. Thank the shells it was over. "That blue got me too. A girl socked it right in the nose then ended up impressing to it." He told Panata.

"I'm fine, this is nothing serious. Blasted thing only managed to scrape me up pretty well, though that kid next to the brat in the bed is worse off than I am at the moment."

That didn't mean that Leicha thought Panata was okay, it was far from it. The only reason he actually even stayed in the infirmary like this was because he had some guilty feelings lingering about his body. He could have stopped Panata from getting mauled in the first place, by that angry Bronze, which may or may not have prevented the boy from getting ripped almost to shred by that last crazy Blue.

Of course, he wouldn't admit any of this out loud. Leicha was certain his feelings would go away over time, and he'd even forget the boy unless he saw him around during lessons - which he doubted he would. If this child were smart, any smart at all, he'd go back home.

" . . . ."

As a girl came in, looking pretty healthy and unharmed, Leicha had to raise an eyebrow at her condition. What was she doing here if she wasn't hurt? Did she want company, or had she come to pity those who hadn't a lick of sense?

====

Panata blinked a bit as Nadia came into his line of sight, a pretty girl who looked worried over him, and he did his best to form a shaky smile on his lips. He would always smile, it was only polite, and if he could bow his head he probably would do that as well. Instead all he could do was barely tilt his jaw down, that simple action causing more tears to form in his already damp eyes.

"Pa. . . ."

He croaked again, and when a boy came into view with an offer of water, all Panata could see was his busted arm. He couldn't refuse him, though he clearly wasn't thirsty, instead closing his mouth a little to show he did not want it.

" . . . "

As the boy before him spoke of what happened to the blue, Panata was impressed...and oddly enough, relieved. Even though the dragonet had attacked him, Panata didn't think he'd meant any ill by it. It was his own fault for assuming things, and he reaped what he sowed.

She glanced up as something warm was thrown over her shoulders, and found herself looking at a pretty young woman. As the stranger rubbed her shoulders gently, the pale blue eyes seemed to thaw. "Excuse me." she whispered. "Do you mind, umm..." she motioned at one of the shelves in the Healer's area, where there were rolls of bandages. "Grabbing a roll of bandages for me? I can't.... quite make myself move. Please?"

Indeed, she was quaking now, leaning towards the older girl- who so reminded her, in the face at least, of her older sister. The only mother she'd known since she was eight turns.

She pulled up the legs of her pants, showing blood-seeped bandages and began to unwrap them quietly.

It was all very surreal to her.

The Hatching had been quite a magnificent spectacle, and she suddenly sorely wished that she hadn’t kept herself away from observing the ones before it. There was nothing quite like standing on the sands as Dragons were born, silently hoping one decided you were the right person for them. Ah, but reminiscing and her planned paintings to commemorate the occasion would have to wait. For now, she was certain the healers could use a hand, and if not that, perhaps the injured Candidates could use a friend. Why she did not choose to attend the feast was obvious, to her anyway: She didn’t want to linger among the new Weyrlings and their lifemates for too long, knowing that any friendship with them would likely fall soon after. They were new people now, no longer Candidates, and would be trained in different fields and put in different places. No, she’d stick with her acquaintanceships.. for now.

Amoreth didn’t bother to return to her quarters to change after she had left the sands with the others. Noise buzzed through the halls as she passed through them to the Healer’s niche; people were exiting the stands and speaking to each other of the day’s events. It pained her, somewhere deep inside, but that was only to be expected—it was her first stand, and she was quite happy with the way things went. Those deserving of their Dragonets were just that, and she was new blood. Now that she had witnessed a Hatching, she’d be better prepared for the next one.. Just like Leicha.
Oh, poor Leicha,” she thought to herself, her heart suddenly sinking. He had said that he stood many times and she hadn’t seen him impress; what must he be feeling now? Perhaps it would be a feeling of, “Well, nothing new there.” That wouldn’t surprise her, really. Heh, he seemed like the sort who would take another defeat gracefully, and patiently await his day of victory.

She made a detour for the kitchens to pick up a tray of klah, and then quieted her steps as she reached her final destination at the ward of sorts, first peeking inside to have a look at those there. The young woman offered an awkward wave of greeting to those who could easily see her, and she made her way to the foot of Panata’s bed.
Hello,” she said softly, frowning with worry as she knew she would get no response. The boy had been hurt badly. She turned to give the other still-Candidates a look, noting first the girl with bandaged legs slowly removing the coverings and the seemingly-unhurt girl who was trying to put her at ease. Somehow, she managed to miss Leicha.
I rather thought this could be of some use,” she very nearly whispered, setting the tray of klah down on a nearby table. Amoreth took a cup and moved to the edge of the room, taking a seat there. She withdrew her ever-faithful tablet and pencil from the pouch she had hidden under her robes, and began to sketch out plans for her masterpieces.

Standing here, K'han felt a little bad about feeling so happy.

Even knowing the amount of damage done this Hatching wasn't enough to squash the bubble of joy that Roheth's arrival had brought. But still, the atmosphere of the infirmary was subduing; K'han's usual grin was gone for the moment. He'd done something dumb, attracting the attention of that other bronze, and his friend was hurt possibly because of it, and -- oh, this was complicated. He liked it better when life was simpler.

It will be all right. Roheth's head leaned against his side, a warm steady pressure. You acted because you were worried about brother Teharth, and that is noble. Now we will make amends, to set things right.

K'han lightly rubbed Roheth's eyeridges, and the bronze responded with a soft, fond rumble. Then the two of them approached the group around Panata's bed. K'han edged his way in (rather more gently than he might have done elsewhere, mindful of the injuries of others) and leaned into Panata's field of vision. "Hey, pal. You going to be okay?" A pause, a breath. But he wouldn't be shy about admitting his mistakes, even in front of an audience.

"I was a real deadglow out on the sands today, and I'm sorry. If there's anything I can do to help..."

Roheth stepped forward at this point, leaning his head forward over the bed to rest his muzzle against Panata's hand and let out a low croon, reassuring the boy as he had tried to reassure his brother Darcth before. Give him our word, Mine.

"Roheth and I are behind you, one hundred percent."

There were so many people coming in and out of Panata's line of sight that he felt a bit overwhelmed, his mind racing to try and place even one face. But it was hard, almost a failure as he knew not a single one who showered their concern on him. It was almost laughable how much attention he was getting now compared to when he had been uninjured and always running around, but Panata figured that seemed to be the natural flow of things.

People could care less if someone was happy and running about, they really only cared or showed their concern when said person was now laying on a bed unable to really move.

Still, Leicha's voice from the corner had brought him some feeling of warmth - the other boy was still watching over him - and the addition of more female voices who brought themselves into his vision seemed to ease him as well. He was still in a good deal of pain, not nearly as bad as when his body had first come to, but enough that he could speak should he find someone he wanted to properly reply to. . .and sure enough, someone came in.

Kamihan. The boy whom he had moved to help, resulting in the first mauling Panata would receive for the hatching. But Kamihan was not alone anymore, that proud Bronze from the first cracking standing at his side.

It almost pained Panata to hear the sorrow in his friend's voice, to not see that silly smile that had always decorated his face. The pair had really only met once before, and then again on the sands, but Panata had liked him enough to wonder why he was so sad now.

"Kami...han"

He hadn't heard the boy's shortened name, not very surprising since right after the blue he'd come here in a blank state, so he still addressed the Rider by his former name. Panata was doing his best to think of a response, of what to say other then jsut croaking out a name, when he felt the muzzle of a dragon touch the skin of his hand. Almost right away his eyes widened, a look of fear mixed with surprise, though he said nothing.

Patting Sanae she got up to get her a roll of bandages and a cloth for her to wipe her legs with as well as a pile that was sitting nearby for the used bandages, smiling at her Nadia looked up just in time to watch as Amoreth came in taking note of the tray that she brought with her.

Nadia pulled out the sweetbreads and meat that she had gotten from the kitchens and placed them on the try along with the food that Amoreth brought, “Just something else for everyone…” She muttered.

Glancing over at Sanae again making sure that she was alright she settled against on of the walls nearby Panata’s bed, leaning her head back on the wall she closed her eyes as the events of the day started to hit her.

Hearing another person enter the room she opened her eyes to K’han and his bronze leaning down to speak to Panata; rubbing her neck she watched and wondered it was really such a good idea to bring a dragon so close to him so soon….

Arolon found a few bandages on the shelves and a jar full of numbweed. "This will help those hurts." He announced holding the jar up with his good arm and showing it to everyone. He approached Panata and showed him too so he wasn't left out. Blood from his sides showed easily where his boo boos were. "You think he'll need stitches or would a numbing agent and bandages be enough?" He asked, he wasn't a healer. He didn't know how to sew skin. He didn't know how to sew at all.

He'd help numb the guy and bandage the guy as well as his own broken arm but he couldn't stitch a wound. He still needed to find splints to hold the arm straight while it healed. The smell of sweetbread was distracting, he realized he was hungry. He decided to wait and fix up his arm first. "Thank you." He said to Nadia. He, too, wondered if it was a good idea to bring a dragon that close to someone who'd just been mauled by another dragon. He didn't say anything though, the rider's intentions were good. As long as Panata was okay with it he wouldn't say a word.

She took the bandages, grateful. "Thank you."

Sellae wiped her legs carefully, bandaging them when she saw they were still bleeding- not much, but enough. The real reason she'd come was in the hope that one of the healers would be here. Someone to talk to. She supposed these other candidates would be just as good.

When the weyrling came in though, she pulled herself tight into her corner, watching the dragonet with pale eyes full of confusion. It wasn't resentment she felt, she was happy that the boy had found someone. It wasn't loneliness. It wasn't... she didn't understand. She couldn't imagine ever understanding.

Finally she stood, when her legs were bandages well, moving over to grab one of the cups of Klah and taking a piece of the sweetbread. She skirted the bronze carefully, trying not to meet those whirling eyes. "The sweetbread is good." she said finally, when she'd taken a bite. Her voice was shaky, and she closed her eyes, moving back to the corner she had come from and pulling the blanket back around her shoulders. "Did you make it?" her voice was calmer now.
