User ImageSome quick bursts of pit-pattering sounded out, though muffled to some extent by the grassy land underneath. A female cheetah, streaked with half of what some could call a shiny dark grey, and half of an aquatic tan fade, ran through the lands with a bright smile gracing her features. She was chasing the day away - the sun had lowered itself to just under the horizon line, and the darkened sky was beginning to loom overhead. The feeling of the cooler breeze invigorated her, and she changed course for a run towards some thin patch of trees she saw in the distance; with luck, they were standing beside a watering hole, though she couldn't see beyond the tall grasses that much.

So as she continued her run, she failed to notice anything that could have also been in the area; she didn't mind the starting sounds of a cricket's chirp, nor the faraway barks of any canine. Her mind was focused, and all she could think of through her jog was, Water, water, please let there be water! Not out of necessity were these thoughts running through her head, as she was perfectly hydrated, but rather... the feeling of water made the days much more entertaining to help splash the day away.

Hatsya, ever the minimalist, had spent his day at the oasis. The cheetah lazed under the shade of sparse tree branches, keeping his black pelt from the sun as much as possible. The only time he'd strayed was for a short burst of activity in a hunt. Some occasions had been lashing out at gazelles that skirted the water's edge, some attempts at the tall water birds wading in the shallows, but with a blind eye, and faulty depth perception agitated by the flashing water, he'd failed. He'd managed to catch an unsuspecting klippspringer with a limp that wandered too close to his camouflaged spot in the darkness. Though it was never a point of pride for a cheetah in the prime of his life to take down crippled prey, he figured an eye for an eye made it fair enough. There was still some prime meat attached to the bones as they lay next to him, but he was full to burst.

Eyes half-lidded, one scarred, he blinked lazily and licked his chops, watching and waiting for something new to come by, bored with the now mostly-deserted watering hole, he'd had a staring contest with the small crocodile at the edge of the watering hole for probably half an hour now, wether the beat knew it or not. Hatsya sighed and stretched, hoping for more captivating company.

"Yeeeeesss!" the blur of a cheetah yelled out as she announced her arrival to all within the watering hole - though she assumed she was alone - and closed her eyes as soon as she saw a sliver of the blue liquid, noting its location in memory.

Her speed doubled as she neared the clearing, and her body slid through the air with ease as she made a leap from the grassy ground, into the rays of the sun illuminating her glossy coat, and back down towards a couple feet away from the edge of the water. Her paws dipped down first, then legs, and the coolness of the water flowed through the cheetah's fur, making her shiver for just a split second. But she was enjoying the embrace as much as the expression on her face told: Her grin was laden with her giddiness, eyes closed in pure ecstasy of the moment. She then burst into laughter, still under the assumption that the clearing was, well... clear.

Leaning backwards, the female drifted onto the side of the pool, spreading her arms wide to relax. It took a while longer for her to notice the unsuspected stranger settled nearby, and even longer to notice the crocodile on the other end of the pool.

"Yaah!" she screamed instinctively, immediately jumping out from her spot.

The adrenaline excited her, honestly, and as she looked back at the crocodile, she followed the direction of its gaze back onto the black form she recognized prior to her escape from the lurking watery jaws.

Putting up an embarrassing smile, she called out while strolling over, "Hi there! Watcha got there?" She noticed the still fresh and partially eaten carcass beside the other cheetah.

Some hooping and hollering attracted Hatsya's attention, his ears turned to it first, and his good eye followed. It was just a blur of a cheetah that ran to the lagoon. He tilted his head, a grin just as crooked across his face. What a strange individual. Spirited, rather. He watched, bemused as she swam about, and choked back a laugh as she saw the croc.

While the lady trotted over, Hatsya bobbed his head, a sign of respect, without standing. When she mentioned his kill, the black male let out a satisfied purr and stretched his lanky legs. "Breakfast, lunch, and leftovers, Miss. By all means, help yourself. I'd rather you eat it than my friend over there." He flicked his tail in the direction of the reptile, who now seemed to be sulking. Curious, to say the least, he peered at her with his shining teal eye, "And in exchange, may I ask who you are?"

Her mood brightened as she walked over to the other black cheetah, as his nodding indicated that he most likely welcomed her company. When he remained stationery in his position, she pondered mimicking him as she drew quite close to him than any normal stranger would. Upon closer inspection, the female cheetah thought his appearance was pretty cute - that debonair striped hair, that green ring around his neck, and the obvious eye scarring presented a particularly curious-looking cheetah. Not that she would favor her own eye to be scarred, but so many absorbing stories could be told by such an appearance.

"Wow," she remarked at first, looking at the prey larger than what she would normally down, "That looks pretty good. Are you sure, Sir?"

She couldn't help but add in a tease; he was being far too polite than he needed to, but it just helped in making the situation more pleasant and fun in a different way for the female.

"I haven't eaten really, I guess... But," she twitched her head back to the large reptile, "That's... your friend?"

She guessed it could've made sense - that the two were in the same clearing before she entered - if they were acquainted. Otherwise, wouldn't one be unappreciative of the other's company? The pairing was so strange, yet she preferred to take his words literally because it was more fascinating than a mere joke. Still, she eyed the other predator suspiciously and stepped cautiously over to the meat, in case it made any sudden movements or wanted to take it instead.

"That's a strange friend," she concluded, bending down to sniff at the carcass while keeping the crocodile in her peripheral vision, "I think I can be a better one. And I'm Kuchwa!"

Hatsya also appraised his new company as she came closer. Though he loved every lady, his own species was by far his favorite. Something about their delicate frames was just so refined and elegant. Her stripes kept his eye moving over her pelt and her eyes were bright and orange, shimmering with interest.

His smile twitched a little bit. "Sir? Please, I'm Hatsya." She kept dancing around the subject of eating, though she was more than welcome to. When the lady cheetah inquired about the crocodile which was too much for him. He laughed and rolled onto his back. "We have a history together." That is, if today's adventures could be considered a past, then the crocodile's attempt at eating him, disruption of his hunts, and the try of taking Hatsya's kill was quite the relationship. Even now Hatsya glanced over at the beast, it's mouth gaping as it lay basking on the edge of the water. He didn't put it past the creature to move in a flash, but it seemed to have grown bored with their company.

The cheetah stretched towards her. "Oh, I don't doubt it. It's very nice to meet you, Kuchwa. What a lovely name!" He smiled and poked at the meat, encouraging her to sample it.

"Hatsya!" she chimed, a laugh building in her body, "I thought 'Sir" was a suitable return for 'Miss' and so... Hatsya is a rather fine name itself, though."

Kuchwa decided to ignore the further commentary on the crocodile - unable to tell what exactly laid in the implication of his words, all she offered was a partially amused raise of the eyebrow. As long as there was nothing dangerous to be worried about, she was fine with putting her whole concentration on Hatsya, who was enough to be her only company for the moment.

...After stepping lightly towards his prize, that is, and grinning at his encouragement.

"Okay then, if you get hungry later and can't find anything, then don't eat me to get what you've given!"

Without bothering to wait for a response, Kuchwa curled her mouth onto klipspringer flesh, coming up with an automatic sound of satisfaction as she licked her now-bloody maw.

"Do you always sit around with some leftover, waiting for a girl like me to share it with?" Kuchwa asked in jest, taking small bites of the kill at a time while her eyes were on Hatsya.

Hatsya's ears leaned forward for her laugh, and with a cocky grin, he responded, "Well we're sharing a meal, shouldn't we be on a first-name basis?" The male's entire body was relaxed and he lay his head on the ground while his eyes stared up at her, while only the teal one saw.

"Hmmm. Not eat you? I can't make any promises..." He rolled over onto his back. "I guess to keep me from eating you up, you'd have to do me a different favor." His head tilted, and his grin was suggestive. But, it was better not to be outright with his favorite sort of return, after all; he was a little bit lusty, but never crude. He watched her set to eating, and he closed his eyes, letting the sun heat his black body while she ate.

He opened his good eye when she spoke again, and his smile never left his face. "Nonono, not at all. I wait for pretty girls like you." He pushed forward with his back feet and came to rest at hers.

Kuchwa was still munching on Hatsya's kill, sometimes moving an eye up to glance at his expression. Hatsya caught more of her attention, however, when he rolled onto his back. The upper part of her body moved up slightly from bending over the kill, interested in his vulnerable form and sly suggestion. But wait, what did he mean, really? Was she supposed to assume something?

So she waited until she was finished chewing on the last piece she bit off the carcass, staring at Hatsya all the meanwhile.

"Hmmm," she purred at his words as he sneakily sidled up under her, wondering what his intentions were.

They could have been anything at all!

"Can you tell me what kind of favor this is?" she asked, lowering her head to look at him straight on, getting close to touching his face with hers.

"Pretty girls sometimes do favors for pretty boys, you know."
