Tar scowled slightly at the stream before them, paw's carefully resting on the very edge of the water, sighing a long suffering sigh the two toned olf cast a glance behind him "Doesn't seem to be any way around it" he stated in a tone which clearly indicated he was not pleased with this predicament "Looks like we'll have to cross".Moons...he hated swimming, left your coat all soggy and bedraggled looking, plus it was getting chilly at night now and really who wanted to sleep cold and damp?
A sullen look flickering across his face Tar turned his gaze back towards the stream..at least he thought to himself, it wasn't very wide, and maybe if they were lucky it would turn out to be shallow too. They'd certainly come too far already in this journey for either of them to turn back now. Not that Tar would consider such a possibility anyways...not when according to their leads they were so very close. "What do you think Tal? Should we cross no...or wait till morning?"

Talas'An stopped sniffing the tree near her and moved up to stand beside her mate as the water calmly hurried past. Swimming wasn't a big deal for her, so she nudged him slightly with her nose, her lilac eyes glittering with teasing humor. "A little water won't kill either of us. We can shake it off on the other side and our fur will dry if we sit out in the morning sun for a while."
She began wading in and smiled back at him when the water was up to her stomach. "Come on!"
The shore wasn't too far anyway, and the water was fairly shallow. She caught a dip in the bottom and had to paddle for a very short distance-- wetting her coat up to the shoulder-- but the bottom swiftly met her feet again and she was stepping onto the opposing shore. She shook her coat vigorously and did an odd dance as she attempted to shake the water from her paws as well. Her tail wagged briefly as she turned back to check on Tar's progress.

Kalani had left his pack not long after they had the funeral for his apparently dead aunt. It wasn't something he wanted to go to and had only done so because his mate had pretty much made him. He hadn't want his pups near it though, they were too young. He had happily wandered for days, his last scouting trip would have been unsuccessful if it wasn't for Twila appearing, she was a beauty and he had been so lucky to find her. He had been rather unsuccessful yet again so far. It seemed most wolves would bring nothing but bad luck. He let out a soft sigh as he continued to walk, following a stream though he wasn't sure where it would lead him. He just followed hoping that it would lead him somewhere and at least if he stayed near it he would have a constant source of water to drink if he needed it.

Tar'quin huffed slightly at the teasing look in Tal's eyes as she nosed him and then took to the water. "Could always drown" he muttered to himself when she was far enough away but his surly look didn't quite reach his eyes and his words were spoken more in stubbornness then anything else. He couldn't actually stay annoyed with the situation in light of her good humor after all.
Wrinkling his nose Tar plunged into the water after her, it was cold - just like he knew it was going to be and rather then swim and wade quietly as he had done Tar decided to just get the entire process done as quickly as possible and crossed the stream in a series of giant leaps and bounds which was fairly noisy and caused a great deal of splashing but in the end he was on the dry bank once more and shook himself vicariously...which cause his fur to puff out in odd angles.
"Well thats just great" He said after inspecting himself but then pricked his ears and glanced downstream "I think someone's coming..do you smell that?" He asked Tal as the breeze shifted.

Tal's tongue lolled out in a silent laugh. "Well if you hadn't leapt across--" Her words stopped as Tar caught the scent of someone coming, and she turned her nose in the direction of the coming breeze, inhaling deeply. There was something there. Someone looking for a drink, or maybe out hunting? The stream was too shallow for the fish she'd seen in the last big river they had passed.
"Wolf," she announced as if Tar hadn't just alerted her to it, turning her body in that direction and pricking her ears forward as well. "Do you think they'll be willing to give us directions? If it's a local, they may know if we're anywhere near the Sanctity's lands, or if their pack is still... whole." She didn't look at Tar, but she was sure he caught her implication. The wolf who had died with them had sounded as if he'd been away from his pack for a long time, and packs could scatter to the winds in a few seasons time. Not all of them were as well-established and close-knit as the pack Tal and Tar came from.
"I'm starting to wonder if we're chasing our own tails looking for them," she sighed, her purple eyes still scanning for a sign of a wolf coming around the stream's bend.

Kalani had never met a wolf that knew of his pack, in fact he doubted he ever would. After all the pack was secluded, they were close, those who were in it and they really weren't one for strangers, especially those of odd colours. However things changed a lot when it came to times like this where he wondered if his two beautiful children would ever have a mate and family. The pack needed to grow.
As he turned round the bend he stopped suddenly and looked ahead at the two wolves in front of him. He didn't like meeting more then one wolf at a time, they were, well they had the advantage if a fight were to break out. So unlike Kalani his posture changed to look submissive.
"Good Day!" He spoke cheerfully and first, unlike a submissive wolf but then he wasn't normally, he was a beta and was far from use to waiting to be spoken to.

Tar sighed slightly - he too was starting to think this quest of theres might be for naught. It had been quite some time since the two had run across anyone who had even heard of the pack - much less been able to give them directions. They were pretty much following the vague directions of a dead wolf that might or might not have been somewhat delusional at the time.
Of course it wouldn't do for Tar to let Tal see he was close to loosing hope on this quest - the future it had promised them had been so very bight and perfect. He had turned to her and opened his mouth to answer when the strange wolf came around the bend and offered his greetings. Instinctively Tar made sure he was between this stranger and Tal...so he was a bit over protective, any wolf ith half a brain would be protective of someone like Tal in his eyes and so the male wasn't overly apologetic about this trait.
"Afternoon" He answered somewhat gruffly, Tar wasn't really keen on wolves he didn't know, which was somewhat ironic he thought considering the were out here looking for precisely that - a pack of strangers. Knowing that Tal would fuss at him for being cranky Tar attempted to seem somewhat more welcoming with a half-hearted wag of his tail.

Tal cast a chastising look at Tar before he gave a small wag of his tail. She stepped forward so she was beside her mate but still further back from this new stranger than Tar was. She didn't mind being protected, but she didn't see any reason to alienate what might be their only chance at locating the pack for the next few days.
"Hello," she greeted, wagging her tail once in an openly friendly gesture. "Do you live around here?"
If he could help, Tal so no reason not to cut to the chase. She could easily be friendly with a wolf, make small talk, but it was best to get their business out of the way first. It didn't cross her mind that if the Sanctity pack wasn't as wonderful as they thought, it might butcher any chance of small talk with skittish wolves.

Kalani smiled as he saw the male step infront of the female. He would have done the same thing to Twila, and she would have probably reacted the same way to.
"Yes I live in a pack not far from here, my name is Kalani." He bowed his head as he spoke. He knew how to be respectful and he wondered whether they were looking for something. There must be some reason they were asking him if he lived round here, or maybe they were just making conversation...

Tal was by far the friendliest of the two, but now that she had decided to open the door and make chit-chat with the stranger, Tar didn't see any reason to keep beating around the proverbial bush. Besides Kalani here had already admitted he lived in the area, and being the first wolf they had run across in a goodly while Tar wasn't about to pass up the chance for information...even f he wasn't exactly keen to make conversation to do it.
"Pleasure to meet you" Tar managed to huff out, and while his tone might sound a little gruff there was truth to his words - he truly was pleased to at least get some more information on the immediate area "I'm Tar'quin and this" he motioned to Tal with a slight motion of his muzzle "Is Talas'An, we're new to the area..traveling through in search of a pack we've heard of" he trailed off glancing at Tal to see if she wanted to carry the conversation from there, moons knew he'd already spoken more to the stranger then was typical for him to do.

"The Sanctity Pack. We were told it was out this way, but we haven't found it yet. And it's a been very long journey." She smiled ruefully. "Do you know if we're close or if the pack was here and has disbanded or moved on?"
It hadn't escaped her notice that Kalani had said nothing of who his pack was or where it was located. That was hardly unusual, especially since he was talking to what looked to be a pair of lones in search of a home, but it still made Tal curious about which pack was local enough for him to have come from it.
"Tar and I haven't found any wolves able to tell us anything about them, so we're starting to wonder if the pack died out." The wind caught the branches above them and Tal glanced up at the sound. The moon winked down at her from above the moving limbs. She shivered slightly. That seemed oddly ominous.

They knew of the pack? How? However the fact they were looking for it cheered Kalani up, new blood. They needed new blood and a couple at that which meant, it meant that possibly there would be pups. Kalani smiled, yes this could end up being rather good.
"I know of the Pack you talk of but how did you come to hear of it? Its a rather secretive pack, keep to themselves." He wouldn't tell them he was from it, not yet. He wanted to test them, see what they were really like and whether he could trust them. If he couldn't trust them then there was little point in even continuing this conversation.

Tar gave a surprised jerk as the stranger mention he had heard of the Sanctity pack before casting a joyous look at Tal, at long last...maybe..maybe they were on the right track! The two of them could finally put this traveling behind them - start their lives together the way he had always envisioned them doing.
But of course...that ment he had to find out whatever information this stranger - Kalani - he reminded himself, happen to know of their elusive goal. Tar didn't see much reason to hide how they had come to know of the pack, the poor wolf who'd told them was dead afterall. "We came across a gravely wounded wolf quite some time ago now, the beast rambled alot - spoke of a pack where wolves worshipped the moon and had a strong and lasting tie to one another, he told us of thier ceremonies and gave a brief description of the area it was located...Tal and I - we were quite young then but we knew we wanted to start a life together in just such a pack, so we set off looking for them. The poor wounded creature died however and we never did learn his name"

Tal's tail wagged when Kalani said he knew what they were talking about. They were close, then! Or at least would have a certain idea of where to go.
"Such a shame," she agreed with Tar, shaking her head. "There was nothing we could do other than make him comfortable. Perhaps, though, if we found the Sanctity Pack we could make up for the loss of one of their members. I'm sure they have accepted him as dead since it was so many seasons ago, but if we could offer ourselves as new members, we could find the home we've been looking for and they could gain a few new members."
She shifted her feet a bit. "Even if they're secretive, you obviously know something of them. If you don't know members, perhaps you could point us in the right direction? I'm sure we could find our way from here."
Better than wandering around the forest for a hundred more days, she thought, but kept the addition to her words to herself.

"The pack has lost more then one member recently..." He let out a soft sigh. At least one of the old wolves has helped out a little by sending these two in his direction!
"You both want to make a home in the pack?" If they did then he would reveal who he really was though otherwise he would keep it to himself. The pack was in a delicate position and he wasn't about to reveal its where abouts to just anyone.
"I can take you there if you want to find a home but you must understand that I won't take you unless you want to join. The pack holds strong beliefs which include sacrifice." He knew some wolves didn't like the idea of sacrifice.
