I've read a few home remedies for an ear infection, but has anyone here actually tried any and had good results with them? I don't want to pour random things in my ears.

Hah. I had a middle ear infection last month. Depending on if it's outer, middle or inner, would make treating it difficult. I ended up on antibiotics as well as drops (the drops were so nummy scrumptious in my ear) after a doctor diagnosis. I'd recommend going to your doctor if you have an infection to find out where it is. The problem with home remedies with your ear is if you put something in there, and it goes south, it's not in the most accessible area of your body.

Seriously as someone who's had many ear infections in life and will eventually go deaf because of it, don't screw with your ears. They're so very delicate and just a little bit of messing can damage them forever.
A hot blowdryer can soothe an earache, and taking goldenseal internally in tincture form can help immensely.
But go to the doctor...

Thanks for the replies guys =). I never ended up doing anything because it got better. I've had quite a few ear infections myself and this one wasn't nearly as bad, so it was probably just something related to the flu I had the week before last. My ear was blocked up and I couldn't hear very well, and there was a dull pain. It may have been 'swimmer's ear' but I don't see how water could have gotten up there, so who knows.

When I was a kid I got earaches all the time and went to the pediatrician really often for them. He told my mom to use a hairdryer on low, or put a hot rag in the bottom of a cup and hold the cup against my ear. He also recommended a few drops of "sweet oil" (olive oil) warmed up, which was amazingly soothing. That advice got me through my childhood and pre-teen years with only a few sleepless nights. heart
Oh, he also said that I didn't need to come in to see him every time I got an ear infection, but if it lasted more than four days to come get antibiotics.

Thank you, that's incredibly helpful. I read about the olive oil, but I wasn't sure about putting that in my ear. I had ear infections all the time when I was little too. My mom always had my hold a warm cloth against my ear and took me to the doctors for amoxocillin. Which was really yummy back then, bubble gum flavored!

Haha I got that a couple of times when I was little, but I didn't really know what it was (little=3 or 4) so I ended up sneaking into the fridge and drinking a lot of it... xp After that Mom always made me get the pills.

I get ear infections like theres no tommorow. I found that lying your sore ear on a heating pad helps. that and my last ear infection, it was horrible. We were on vacation and I woke up in the middle of the night bawling due to my blasted ears. Long story short my fiance put warm vinager mixed with a pinch of black pepper and put me to bed, I woke up the next morning without any pain.
