do you think people steal tekteks (and avatars and combination/layer ideas) and claim them as their own often? also, I have the forums private for that reason do you think I'm being too... strict about it? do you worry about the protection of your tekteks and does having a guild like this make you feel better about it?
just some things to think/talk about go go

Hmm, I dunno. I like if... you know, they say it's cool, and dress themselves up similar. But I disapprove plagiarism.

I know it happens. One time I entered a tektek of mine into a tektek contest.
The girl really liked it, but wanted a few changes done. When I came back, so other girl had entered MY tektek, but added a few very ugly things to it. D:
I attacked her. xD

see it as theres only so many items on gaia. and if someone has the same shirt with the same vest, then thats just a coincidence. but if someone has the same exact avi, then im assuming they stole it. I'll admit that I get inspiration from other peoples avis, but I dont steal them

It happens a lot, but sometimes, there is just a coincidence. People steal because they like it, so I've turned off my items and if I post a avi, it's just an image. There's always that one item that goes perfectly with another item, and a lot of people know it. That's not plagiarism, but it's common knowledge.
So yes, inspiration = good. Copying exactly = bad.

It rarely happens to me, but when I'm in that situation, I assume that it's a coincidence and that my ideas are lacking in creativity/originality. Even if that's not the case, I really don't care.

I've had a situation where someone had stolen one of my TekTeks. But then again, I haven't really TekTek'd much in a long time. Mainly because of my crappy computer. But never fear! I has a new compy 8]
Back to the issue at hand: I'd say, shame on those who steal. Use your own creativity. I wouldn't mind if someone made one similar to one that I made. Note the word similar, hehe. It would be nice to get credit for "inspiration."

Well, I haven't gotten mine stolen (I think), but my sister's tekteks were stolen countless times. It gets her mad : I guess I could relate if someone claimed my art as their own D8<
Well there was this one time someone DID try to steal my avi The PM went a little something like "OMG U HAS A COOL AVI? I LIEK UR STYLE" And I said no. Then a couple minutes later he changes my avi to a cheaper (and uglier) version of mine I lol'd even though it probably means I'm a bad person xD

People have stolen several of my tekteks (hell some have even had the balls to steal it and put it in a contest I WAS IN like I wasnt gonna rat them out on it and get them disqualified). Ive heard the reason for so many tekteks getting stolen and its ****ing stupid.
One girl stole the avie of a person I was in a contest with and submitted it seconds before the other girl submitted it. The same avie. When confronted she says she took one of the "examples" from tekteks first page and that it wasnt stealing. Those arent bloody examples theyre the recently made tekteks of OTHER PEOPLE. But n00bs dont understand that and they take other peoples avies off the front page or from under their tags because they dont have the sense to know they belong to other people.
Incidentally I got tossed from that contest for ranting at her about it for 3 pages and derailing the thread but things like that seriosuly tick me off. stare

ah..
so does it make you feel more comfortable that the guild is private? or does anything think I should turn it to public?

Private is much better IMO Why would someone care to lurk in the guild when they're not a part of it?

well, im not too clear on the difference between private and public. but, if youre looking for more people to join, then you should change it to public. also, the forums are public, and I have a feeling almost everyone here posts avis in the forums, so the only avis that arent viewable to everyone are the ones they post here. but I could care less if its public or private. I jsut love it here (:

Oh yes. Hell people even steal winning avatar from the arena and enter a week later. (and a few actually won, sadly nothing any of the mods can do since its not a rule) edit:
