Two letters fluttered through the air momentarily before audibly clunking against the bottom of a small black trash can. Both bore the same design on the simple white envelope; ornate letters spelling out a message told of what contents the letters kept secret. One had been torn open and the card inside read before it had roughly been shoved back into plain envelope that marked its home. The other had been crumpled slightly, but otherwise untouched since it held the same contents as it counterpart, but now both lay discarded at the bottom of the otherwise empty trash can.
Hatmon had opted to not attend the party, the letters so kindly spoke of, and she was quite glad she had made that decision. It was just held the night prior, but rumors and whispers of what had unfolded during the festivities had already reached the curious ears of the shopping district; as well as Hatmon’s own. It hadn’t even taken a minute for Hatmon to be captured by her wily neighbor when she had stepped outside to sweep the door step. The chimera’s neighbor and owner of the shop next door, a cute little place that sold all sorts of dresses imaginable, was quick to inform her of the tragic turn the party had taken.
Shop had been closed up early so that many of the employees could attend the party. Worst of all was that the daughter of one of her Hostess’s had been kidnapped; Amara, that lovable little girl, that always seemed to add splashes of happiness wherever she went. Everyone was sure to be in fairly poor spirits today; a crying shame what with Halloween fast approaching. So as a little treat, Hatmon had arranged for Kris to whip up a few festive cakes that would be free of charge naturally, to help cheer everyone up if even a little.
A table had been set out for them near the entrance and the cakes lined neatly on top of their plates. The cakes closely resembled cupcakes, each with a pattern drawn in black and orange frosting on top, there was a surprise included though. Each cake had been inserted with a little treat; ranging from jams to creams and other things. Each was unique, freshly baked, and ready for eating. Hatmon smiled at the cakes before smoothing her paw over her saloon girl dress, the official Hostess Club outfit. She took another quick glance to make sure all was in order, before softly as she tiptoed over to the door, and unlocked it before flipping over the open sign. It was a few hours earlier than they usually opened, but today was special. Outside the shop stood a solitary sign, welcoming all to try their luck and sample the delicious, limited-time only cakes.

Ahh the streets were those that Bartre had found a way to get used to...yet on this day he opted not to go to that party he heard about...he wasn't in a partying mood for one, and the other reason was that he chose to spend time along the streets to find whatever he could. Now, usually hearing about what had gone on would have made Bartre rush off, yet the rest of that...strange occurrence confused him, so he chose to stop right in front of a shop he had seen once or twice...and chose to go in, the words cake catching his eyes. "Oh that sounds good...I'll see if they can serve me something."

Oh dear..Oh dear, oh dear! Just where in the world was she? The first moment she knew, Elhaym was running from a mob of soldiers and the next moment, she's here in some..unknown land!! Oh dear, this worried her, yes it did. Elly pulled at a loose strand of hair and unconciously began to play with it, then reached behind her to hold her bow, Emilia's Grace '..Waaah~" she cried, almost at the verge of tears, it was cold, she was lost and-
grumble
Oooh how hungry she was. Here she was, freshly promoted to Sniper and the first thing she accomplished? Getting her self lost and hungry "..I-Is this because I disobeyed brother..?" she held herself in, trying so hard not to cry. She couldn't help it! She just got herself out of the verge of death and the-
"..Caaake...?"
Ok either she was really hungry or she really had a sense for the sweet aroma that filled the air. "ooooooh..it is Cake~" her feet moved on her own and after walking about a mile or two, yes she had that strong of a nose to sweetness, till she hit a small table that had.."..CAAAKE!!!!" she cried out, nearly about to dive into it until she noticed a strange person standing across the table. Elly let out a small yelp and backed away, her usual shyness taking over.

Looking up after hearing a yelp, Bartre noticed he was now not alone. Being kind, he extended his hand out. "The name is Bartre...you are?"

"Hwa!!" Elly jumped at the sudden sound. What was she so afraid of?? This person wasn't going to hurt her or anything. She didn't take the hand when offered, instead, she bowed in a polite gesture. It wasn't that Elly didn't like the person..more or less..she still hadn't over come her fear for men..You'd think living with her own BROTHER for 10 years she'd get over that..or hell, even having a MALE as her archery teacher would get her to over come that..noooooo. Then again, her brother didn't count..he's a relative...that shouldn't count...should it? "E-Elhaym..b-but I go by Elly also.."
Not wanting to be anymore rude then she already was. Her grip around her bow was tight, so tight that you could see the whites of her knuckles. She's not in any danger but call it a comforter for being in a strange land.

Noticing her not taking his hand, he brought it back, yet he did notice her grip on her bow. "An archer eh? Nice...I'm a warrior, better with axes, yet I do use a bow every now and then...now that I think of it I don't believe I've seen you before...where are you from?"

If she wasn't more frazzled then she'd already was, Elly could answer that question no problem, instead she began to stutter on words "U-Um..Uh..I-I'm from Magvel..Frelia..to be more..a-accurate" well, truth be told she was forced to move to Renais but yes, she is from Frelia. "Actually..I came through..something..I don't quite know what it is.." the newbie sniper spoke, playing with a strand of her orange hair. "The first thing I knew..Grado soldiers were coming after me and the next..I..I ended up here"

"Magvel...I am sure I have heard of that somewhere...yet I am from Elibe...the Western Isles to be a bit more precise...how I got here I don't even remember really, yet this area is called Learania if I remember...this particular town is Eyris. So, I guess I am the welcome wagon for you...Welcome to Learania."

→→→→→→The hands I'd kept clean→→→→→→Now look dirty→→→→→→Before I can doubt my memories→→→→→→My memories are doubting me...Annis sighed and stretched her arms high above her head. The streets were quiet; more than likely parents were herding all their children within their homes. Word spread fast in a jam-packed city like Eyris, even with its size, and there were very few now who weren't aware of the abduction of a bright-eyed, bushy-tailed little girl. Annis rubbed a hand against the back of her neck and folded her arms behind her back, under her wings, as her footsteps continued to carry her across the cobblestones.
With so few people out and about, the marketplace had been all but closed. A few men and women selling various food items--meats and grains, mostly--were open, but otherwise people stayed to their homes, by what Annis could see. At least, it would be that way for the morning.
Sometimes there were bonuses to generally being an early riser. Granted, this morning it was because she had a couple of loose ends to tie up with an old contract--nothing bad, just a talk with the employer and a search through her home (desperately in need of a thorough clean and organization, Annis had decided after searching through a pile of crap in the corner of her living room for the third time). But that still meant she was awake rather early in the day.
Annis brushed her hair off of her face and rubbed at her nose with a gloved finger. Fall always brought a change in the air, and sometimes it screwed with her sinuses. It seemed to differ from year to year. Things seemed to be okay, though, as she paused near one of the new shops that had sprung up in the past few weeks.
Yeah, the barmaid clothing had vanished and her typical attire had returned. Annis decided it was worth taking a risk towards wearing something less... eh, revealing that day. If Large flips his s**t, I can just tell him I'm washing the clothes before I wear them again. She sighed, running one hand across her face and through her hair again. I swear, the next time I talk to that man, I'm going to--"
Annis paused and took three steps back, turning to the side to actually read the curious sign she had passed. "...Hm. Cake?" Annis studied the sign for a minute, silently chewing on the idea. She hadn't had breakfast. Was it best to eat cake before having something healthier in her stomach?
... Screw worrying about that.
Annis pushed open the door and entered quietly, seeing an unfamiliar girl and boy already in the shop. "Hi," she said vaguely, waving one hand. Were any of the employees even around at the moment? Tibarn slowly made his way down the street. It had been a long night for the Hawk King, and his eyes were half-shut. This doesn't mean he wasn't alert, simply that he was not making the effort to keep his eyes completely open. He spotted a small sign out of the corner of his eyes, and the words 'free' and 'cake' leaped out at him.
Food looked like a really good idea to him about now. He'd been up all night convincing the Watch that this was a matter for the Crew to handle, and that they had to all pull together and keep the city in order while the guild took care of this matter. There were no riots going on over this, but there were still criminals.
Tibarn pushed open the door of the little shop a few minutes after Annis did, using his left arm. It was bandaged as usual, but this time it was all the way up to the shoulder, and a few streaks of red showed through the white from his encounter with the falling glass the night before.
Because his stomach was empty and his eyes were fighting to stay open, the very first thing he did was reach for a cake and lift it up. The gourmet paused for a moment, still too sharp not to take a good hard look at his food, then took a bite and blinked, nearly dropping it when he found it filled with custard.
He swallowed hard, looking down at the little round pastry in his hand, a thin shell of dough filled with creme custard. "Holy gods," he murmured. "I... need to talk to the baker here." He looked up slowly, taking another bite, and chewed it slowly before recognizing Annis.
"Ah! Annis, we need to talk," he said, taking a few steps toward her. "Over at a corner table. Grab a cake they're... really, really good." He paused, considering his empty stomach, and took another. He hadn't eaten since taste-testing his dishes for the party.

→→→→→→The hands I'd kept clean→→→→→→Now look dirty→→→→→→Before I can doubt my memories→→→→→→My memories are doubting me...Annis was busy studying the cakes in silence, trying to decide which one looked tastiest, when she heard the distinct sound of the door opening behind her. The raven turned on her heel and found the Hawk King, arm bandaged, shuffling towards the table. Annis cautiously edged to the side to give him room, eyes spotting the red spots on the white strip of cloth wound around his arm.
Wait, he was going to talk to me before, wasn't he? Annis' form tensed a little, watching him silently bite into his cake, then fumble it. What exactly did that Ulki fellow tell him about me...? Already she was growing uncertain. She still had no idea if it was good news or bad; something had grabbed his attention before he could elaborate.
She began to turn to the side, but the Hawk King seemed to realize she was standing there before she could hardly start moving. "We need to talk. Over at a corner ******** else was she supposed to do? The Hawk King was, for all intents and purposes, her leader. Naesala wasn't here, but if it came down to it, Tibarn could very well prove why he was the King of Hawks and capable of keeping that position. In his condition and the tense atmosphere since the aftermath of the dance, it seemed foolish to do something like that, so... there wasn't really any option beyond "Do what he says."
Annis silently picked up a cake iced with orange frosting and silently moved to the corner of the cafe, sitting down in the chair against the wall. She paused for a moment to make sure her wings were comfortable, even with the back of the chair, and quietly took a bite of her cake. She stared at the pastry in silence, tasting cream filling in the middle.
"...Holy <********>, that's good," Annis murmured under her breath. She took another bite and tried not to focus on the hawk laguz that was about to sit down somewhere at the table. Tibarn followed after Annis, glancing at what he assumed to be a waitress approaching. "Coffee," he said suddenly. "One sugar, no cream." He waved her away, whether she was a waitress or the owner of the establishment, he didn't care unless she was the baker, in which case he needed to do some interrogating. Right now, he needed privacy to talk to Annis.
"Annis, we didn't get to finish our convers-- what happened to the outfit? I thought the bet was all month." He'd been keeping close watch, like how people who really want your money find out your kids' names and ages and interests first. "Anyway, not important. I struggled for... well, over a century to try and further the position of bird laguz in Tellian society. Mostly hawks and herons, but I took the helm for ravens there for a while, too. Before I came here. I know it's tough to find work. Laguz are different, and there aren't many places looking to employ them legally." He looked around slowly. "'Cept I think this place has a raven and a cat."
He looked back down at the raven across from him. "I'm doing my solid best to keep laguz from getting a bad rep here in Eyris. So how do you think I feel about a freelance raven assassin and thief sneakin' around?" He finished off his cake and licked a little frosting off his upper lip, then glanced up. "And where the hell's my coffee..."

→→→→→→The hands I'd kept clean→→→→→→Now look dirty→→→→→→Before I can doubt my memories→→→→→→My memories are doubting me...Annis chewed on her cake in silence. The waitress--actually, she didn't know if it was a waitress that had walked up, she didn't bother to look over, her eyes were too focused on the delicious pastry in her hands--walked away before Tibarn started talking again, and as he promptly changed the topic, Annis very nearly choked on the bite of cake she had in her mouth.
"K-Kuh," Annis coughed once she had swallowed, putting her food down onto the table before she dropped it. She sat in silence for a few moments, letting her throat return to normal, then stared at the half-eaten pastry before her. The excuse was right on the tip of her tongue, but her face was turning red, and everything came out hurried. "I-I was... w-wanted to clean it, it... i-it got dirty. F-From the dance."
Yeah, sounds real convincing now.
Annis didn't look back at Tibarn, not even as her face returned to normal; she simply picked up her cake in silence and took another bite. She chewed slowly, considering what Tibarn was telling her. She had no idea if she had been aware of that work while she was in Tellius, considering her day-to-day life was filled with beorc and the odd heron; she had seen very few hawks or even other ravens. Comes with the territory when you live in a beorc town.
"I'm doing my solid best to keep laguz from getting a bad rep here in Eyris. So how do you think I feel about a freelance raven assassin and thief sneakin' around?"
Annis didn't say anything. She cleared her throat carefully and took another bite of cake, chewing very slowly to avoid responding. Well, what the hell was she supposed to say to someone who asked her a question like that? Especially when that someone was the freaking Hawk King?

"O-oh..Learania.." Elly nodded, pondeing the thought for a small moment before her mind came to actual reality "EH!?!?!" Oh dear, surely she was convinced she was no longer in Renais, still running from those soldies. "N-No.." she whispered, tears forming at the edge of her eyes. "I wanna go hoome~ " but that was one request that couldn't be granted. Elly..was stuck here..not that it was bad but to have to ge used to all these..new faces it
"hi"
The newbie sniper jumped at the sudden geeting and gracefully waved back. She was though, facinated by the black wings that were attatchd to the female. Were they real? Surely they were..no decorations could move so beautifully. No later then a minute did another follow, this time a more muscular built man. Wings too? W-What? Elly had seen Manakete's before but this was the first she had ever seen a bird..then again..when WAS the time she'd seen one? Probalby never..Learania was something interesting.
Guurgle~
Ok, so she had ignored her stomach this entire time. She might as well eat SOMETHING. Elly walked toward the table and picked up one that had some fruits sandwiched in the middle and took a bite. Oh dear goddess it was delicious. There was one thing she didn't think of either till the 2nd bite and that was..she needed to sit. Being a bit tired to even more around, Elly picked the closest table that was a table away from he door but still next to the cake table.
