User ImagePoromoko couldn’t say she was having a bad day. No, she’d seen others have bad days and this was nothing like that. She wasn’t upset. She hadn’t been hurt. She wasn’t sad. Nothing had gone wrong. She couldn’t really put her paw on why she was feeling so off. So no, she couldn’t call it a bad day. She just knew she couldn’t call it a good day.

And that was the rub.

She was bored. She didn’t feel like running, and she didn’t have any friends in this area, having only just come to it recently. Running usually made her happy, but she had been travelling for a few days and her body, not her spirit, was tired. She needed to rest, make some acquaintances. Maybe have a little fun, if she could find the right kind of boy.

Her favorite kind of boy.

The waterfall painted Cheetah padded her way slowly, at least for her perception, across the grasses, watching as the sun moved down behind the mountains far over the horizon. Well. At least the day was over. Hopefully she’d have a better night.

User ImageThe day had gone by without much scene, and the grasses swayed lightly over time, making no more noise than nibbling mice. The sun had risen on cue, and was settling back into the earth as usual. Nothing out of the ordinary occurred this day, and it could confidently be said that many beasts were awaiting the beginning of tomorrow, to stir something up, perhaps. But this day was long gone.

But perhaps it wasn't done for the gray, white-masked leopard, sitting with discontent amongst a pile of rocks similar in color to his own pelt. Black eyes had settled on an unfocused view of the distance before him, and his thick tail thumped the dirt behind him, not minding the scattered flecks of dust that decided to jump up to cling at him. The breeze was a little chilly, but not enough to evoke any extreme reaction from the male. What was he to do, when nothing was in sight? Was he to roam around, like the slow-moving, drifting clouds above themselves?

The answer came in the form of a rather unique mirage seeming to appear out of nowhere in front of him, near the center of the horizon line. His dark eyes moved instantly, actually concentrating on what they were seeing. He squinted; something that looked like a very small, very vague waterfall was looming in on the distance, and it was... moving. It was moving towards him, and his view of the waterfall was zooming in ever so slightly with each second. He took a moment to pause and wonder if he was dreaming, and fervently shook his head to dissipate the image; it was preposterous, for he was in the middle of the grasslands, not deep in a jungle, where one would actually find the more common bodies of water.

He stood up at once, when his hallucination proved too real to be just that. The gray leopard found himself too enchanted by the strange thing walking towards him, that he didn't realize he was simply standing there, gawking at the oncoming stranger.

Poromoko was used to stares. She had been getting them since she was a newborn cub, and grew up so accustomed to them that they didn't even register to her as something others might see as rude. To her, it was just a look someone got when they wanted to say hello to her, but had no idea how to do it.

So she often did it for them, and broke the ice the straight forward way.

So when she came closer to a pile of rocks to find a leopard standing among them, his eyes glued on her pelt, she wasn't too put off. She tilted her head at him, but he didn't seem to be watching her face. Not shy in the least, she moved to give him a little show, turning around slowly so he could get a good long look at the waterfall that painted her flank.

"Like what you see?" she asked musically, smiling at him broadly. She flicked her long tail, blue paws coming to a stop as she sat down in front of him. The image on her fur was obscured now, from the change in posture, and hopefully that would be enough to draw him from his trance.

Was the waterfall talking to him? No, it couldn't have been. Nature doesn't just pick itself up from the earthen ground and wander astray, as a loose, out of place landscape amidst a change of terrain. Yet, it looked like it did right now... Or nature had a way of embodying itself on the body of a random feline.

The cheetah's words took a moment to digest, and when he realized his stares were being addressed, he shook his head and looked up, just a tinge of embarrassment in his expression.

"No," he said quickly at first, feeling like he lost time to plan out a proper response - though he did like her movement prior to his realization, he couldn't admit.

"I meeeean, yes, but," he corrected himself, allowing a reflexive, apologetic smile form on his mouth, "What are you?"

She was a female cheetah - that much was obvious, especially the second his question left his mouth, and so he decided to correct himself again.

"That is, who are you?" he decided to settle on finally, "You're not some magical part of the land here to trick me, are you?"

Well, at least he got what he asked for, as the day just got a little more interesting. Perhaps it'll be the good kind of interesting if the cheetah was actually a cheetah, and if she enjoyed good times as much as he did. He pawed forward suddenly, swiftly circling the girl to see if it wasn't just one side of her that was painted for a simple trick. He did like what he saw.

Poro liked the way he looked just a little flustered when he realized she was a living, breathing creature, just like him. And not some fantastical moving scenic landscape. It wasn't the first time she had seen the expression, but his was certainly among the cutest reactions she had experienced.

She liked him for that.

"What am I? Don't be silly," she laughed, shaking her head and making the fluff on her head, which constituted a mane by cheetah standards, poof out a bit. She perked her ears forward and swished her tail so that it curled around her front legs. Sitting straight up, her long body coiled together, she canted her head almost entirely to one side and fixed him with an equally lopsided grin.

"No, no, I'm just your regular, run of the mill Cheetah, with a fancy coat. My mommy always told me I was a gift from the Gods. What do you think?" It wasn't a very fair question to ask someone she had just met, but she might as well see if he was interested in playing with her.

She watched as he moved to circle her, sitting up straighter and holding her head proudly, so he could get a good look. She flicked her tail back behind her as he passed out of her vision, letting it brush against him as he moved by.

"You act like you've never seen one before." She didn't indicate if she meant 'a cheetah' or 'a gift from the Gods'.

Well, at least she didn't seem much insulted or phased by his possibly bad reaction to her presence. He thought he made often good first impressions, and attracted company - but no company had, he guessed, ever looked like her. But here she was, taking his surprised inquiries in stride, perhaps even admonishing her strange appearance a bit.

At first, he didn't know how to take the cheetah's question. If he denied it, he would be rejecting her company, but if he agreed, he would be idolizing her. Which route was the best to take..?

"Well, right about before you came, I was hoping to find someone to come along before the day ended. And huuuh, I have to say you are quite something. So maybe you are destined to be brought here!"

He was replying as he was about to complete his circle, and noticed too late that he was going to touch her tail. Where had that thing come from?! Regardless, it slid against his legs, and felt rather nice and dainty in contrast to his own bigger, fuzzier tail. He stopped when he was beside the cheetah, unsure of whether she was playing with him or not, or if the tail slip had been an accident. To test things, he moved his own tail around to wrap around hers, and his face adopted a coy, unknowing look.

"You shouldn't let that get in the way, or someone might step on it. And... no, are there others like you?"

His brows furrowed, unsure of whether he'd like to see more landscape-painted felines around - that would confuse him a great deal. But just one - this one would be fine.

"Or do you have a big family, then? Other than your mom. She doesn't look like you, then, huh? I can honestly say you are unique to what I have seen all these years."

The strange cheetah laughed and righted her head, shaking it in amusement. That was certainly a well thought out answer! She had thought he'd get awkward, even upset with the question, and maybe try to leave if he was overly flustered. Instead she had made him laugh. More points to him.

"Destiny huh? Well, I'm not sure if I believe in anything like that, but if you say that's what brought me to you tonight, I guess I can't deny it!"

She felt his tail against hers and she looked at him with a coy grin that rivaled his own, expression, though she wasn't feigning innocence in the matter. He curled her tail around his, noting that it was much different than a lion's or a cheetah's tail. She had never run into a leopard before, but so far, she was liking them quite a lot.

Him, particularly, of course.

"Well, I guess no one in my family looks just like me. But I did meet a lion who had mountains on his side. I like my waterfall better, I think. Do you think I'd be as... interesting... with big rocks on my fur? The water is dainty and luscious." She hummed, not meaning 'interesting' so much as 'beautiful'.

She shook her head. "The family wasn't that big, but they don't matter much any more. I'm living my own life now. Just me and, for the moment, you. Don't you think it would be better to focus on that?" Her grin broadened just that much more, her eyes flashing.

"If you bring in the Gods, then I might as well bring in destiny," he stated simply.

And when she brought her eyes to his, he felt a little overwhelmed - the good overwhelmed, of course. It wasn't often that he ran into females that were comfortable with such a close and rather intimate... spot beside him. No, it never really happened at all.

"Everyone is interesting the way they are. It just depends on what kind of interest that leads some astray from others, and brings some... uhh... closer..." he said, trying not to lose himself through the female's hypnotic gaze - it was hard enough when her pelt already did that!

"So you are dainty and luscious too, huh?" he repeated after her own usage of words, not exactly entirely sure of what he was saying.

The situation was going rather too fast for the poor, hazy leopard who could have been easily satisfied by slowly drifting through the grasses, much like the overhead clouds. But he felt locked into the scene, and the cheetah before him. So he couldn't refuse her words, though he felt the need to add a subtle disclaimer.

"That's good, though..." he let his words hang in the air for a moment, allowing his own dramatic spotlight to perhaps entice the girl.

"...You know, this has never happened at all." The "this" referring to her.

"You are something. You know?"

And as a rush of cool breeze blew by, he muttered, "It's cold," and instinctively placed his head atop her neck, slowly inching and raising it higher so that hers would rest peacefully under his. "You want to go somewhere warmer, or do you like chilly weather?"

Poro nodded as she listened to him. He had some fair points, but she wasn't really interested in conversation. Not real conversation, anyway. She liked it better when things were superficial, at least at the start. Fun and games. When she had to think about things, slow down and digest information and give honest answers, she felt too invested. Too grounded. She liked to fly.

Or at least run really fast. Metaphorically and literally.

She did like the way he was staring at her, though. He seemed to be unable to take his eyes from hers, which was just fine. She watched him with a smile, examining his face, his little mask, his dark eyes. He didn't have to try very hard to entice her, at all. Though, his attempt to made her smile.

"I am something, indeed. And you are, too, I think. Hopefully," she said thoughtfully, standing so she could shift just a little closer to him. "Not too different somethings."

The cool breeze was a bit late, but it justified her being closer. She looked up at the sky as if to thank whatever had designed that little bit of help to her cause. Then he surprised her by coming closer of his own accord. Not only that, but he put his head on hers. She nuzzled into him a bit, grinned and purring a bird's chirp of a purr.

"I think I'd pretty much be warm where ever you are. But if you want to go somewhere else... I wouldn't say no. I like all kinds of weather. But I like it all a lot better when... others are around. To keep me warm."

When it became apparent that the cheetah didn't continue actual conversation, the gray leopard left it at that: silence.

He took her purr in with a smile, and uncurled his tail from hers to instead wrap around her smaller body. Though he was on the lower end of the average leopard size, it just made the cheetah seem all more perfect to lean his body against. Not only did she physically match him, but hadn't he wished for a welcoming stranger to appear before the day's end? Well, she was far beyond welcoming already.

It helped that the female wasn't shy and indirect; he found her sort of blunt, assertive behavior a nice complement to his own bouts of ambiguity. Now, a unique, fitting presentation like her shouldn't be passed by without using the opportunity to its fullest, should it? It wasn't every day that a waterfall came up to him and started talking and getting comfortable with his body.

So he began purring himself, lowering his eyes, and started to push her onto the soft grass of the ground. The sight was a little amusing - like he could move cliffs with a simple gesture of his paw - he chuckled at this and moved closer to the cheetah's body so that there was no gap between them.

And he said, "I'll keep your weather warm, then."

Poro heard his purr and smiled, nuzzling closer because of it. She liked the way he rumbled against her, and wanted to explore the sensation further. He seemed to be catching all her drifts, which weren't too subtle she would have to admit, but she was glad neither of them had to work too hard. Maybe they were supposed to meet tonight.

She moved for him, more than happy to, purring all the while. She liked him being close. Liked the fact that he was as game for this random encounter as she was. It seemed she had some luck with the boys, or maybe they were all the same. Whatever the case was, she found herself more drawn to him than she had been the others.

Maybe she had a thing for leopards.

"I like the sound of that," she hummed curling closer to him. She licked his fur and rubbed under his neck, not shy in the slightest. At this point there was nothing to be modest about, not that she had ever experienced any emotion like it in her rambunctious, free spirited life.

At least she had been right. She was having a much better night.
