Elf Principles In this section we will discuss the beginnings of an elf and how elves tend to behave! There will be two main sections that answer these questions. The first one is... Perhaps you joined Gaia years ago to hang out with friends. You played games, participated in events, chatted in forums and enjoyed this site. Maybe you felt that something was missing. Then one day you gave someone a gift and the joy that came from that act of giving made you incredibly happy! This is why elves become elves - they love giving to others and making others happy! How to Choose your Elf Path So you decided you want to give to others, now where to begin? Below is a list to get you started... Elf Starter Tips
Create an account named "GCD Elf ###" - You can pick any number you wish, but keep in mind a chunk of numbers are already taken. Transfer some money from your 'main' to your elf. - You do not have to follow this step if you want, but some elves find it helpful to not have a gifting account at 0 gold from the very beginning. Now is where the fun begins! You get to "build up" your elf account and create a spirited persona, which we will discuss in a few minutes. Obviously to become an elf you must love Christmas! Please be prepared to work very hard around Christmastime and spread as much Christmas spirit as you can! Elves have a very positive attitude in the winter months! It is our time to shine and make others happy! Being an elf means giving to others. Every year before Christmas I have a nice pile of gold and an inventory full of items, and every year after Christmas my gold amount is near 0 and my inventory is emptied. Be prepared to give as much as you can give, whether it be items, bumps, art or any other way you can think of to help spread Christmas joy!

Elf Practices Part I - The Outside So you have created a new GCD Elf account name - what's next? Well, below are some simple steps to mold your elf character. Design a look via an avatar Create an avatar with a Christmas theme! This is very open to interpretation and you should create an avatar that suits you. Older Elves started off wearing a uniform like this: You are welcome to wear this style uniform and dress it up however you please. The cost of this uniform is pretty cheap! You can also create an avatar with other Christmas items or even red and green items. For inspiration, think of how your elf will act and what your elf will give. If your elf is going to be an intelligent, wise elf, consider adding a pair of glasses or a book to your avatar. If your elf loves to party, consider adding a martini or headphones to your avatar! If you are stuck, feel free to open up a TekTek thread in our Chatterbox or in another Gaia forum. Or look around at other elves to see how they are dressed for inspiration! Create a personality that can possibly be reflected in gifts You may see elves with certain specialties. Some elves only give away 1 item, others only give away a certain kind of item (like hats, wigs, skirts, etc). What you want to gift is completely up to you. It is fine to only give away Blox and it is fine to give away whatever you have in your inventory. It's up to you!Personally I give away yummy treats on Gaia, so my avatar is a bit of a baker and has food items equipped. Decide whether you want to be a themed elf or not and go from there!

Elf Practices Part II - The Inside Being an elf is not just about dressing with holiday spirit and gifting - it's also about being a good person internally! You have probably seen this rule sprinkled around the guild already, but I must state it again - Major Rule DO NOT use your elf for personal gain! There have been many inquiries about this rule so I would like to explain it here in class. Say you become an elf. You earn lots of money, some elves donate to you to help your cause, Gaians donate and gift to you - and suddenly you realize that all this gold and these items would look mighty fancy on your main account. Transferring gold and items from your elf to your main is not a nice thing to do. If you receive donations, you are receiving that donation as an elf, and the gold/items should rightfully stay on your elf account. Question "What if someone gives me an EI/MC/expensive item/item as a gift?" Answer It is fine for your elf to get a gift for their own avatar/house/aquarium etc. Say you are questing for a Spirited Scarf and someone sends you the scarf as a gift to you. You can keep it for your elf or decide to gift it to another Gaian as part of elf giving, but please do not pass it to your own account (or a buddy's) and equip it. Obviously we have no control over people doing this, so we hope people are honest and follow this rule. There is also one more rule that is very important - Major Rule II DO NOT reveal your main account! There's no need to namedrop your main, to talk about how rich/prommie/popular your main is. Elves are elves and that's it. Main account discussion is unnecessary. Again, we can't control this at all, but we hope everyone will follow these elf principles and practices. We're all here out of the goodness of our hearts and to spread joy to others and for nothing more.

Essay (Out of character)
Prompt Part I - Please write about why you chose to be an elf and if you can follow our basic rules and principles.
I wanted to become an elf because the GCD has shown me such unbelievable kindness and generosity over the past few weeks! In that short span of time, I've received numerous gifts, made some very good friends, and found a home for myself on the Gaia forums. I never thought I would find a place where people were beyond generous to a non-reg like me, and their kindness left me flabbergasted! I felt like I needed (and wanted) to pay everyone back for everything they've done for me, and the group spirit of being an elf really appealed to me. I also like the fact that we act more as a collective entity than a bunch of individuals. I won't have any problem at all following the rules and principles, I'm sure.
Prompt Part II - Next, describe your elf character and discuss what you think you will be gifting to others. Feel free to add anything else!
Amai is a sweet and proper elf, who puts on a bubbly front when she gets nervous or flustered. She spends much of her time trying to hide the fact that she's blushing by wrapping a scarf around her cheeks so no one will be able to see! When speaking, she ends nearly sentence with an exclamation mark, and just can't seem to tone down her enthusiasm!
Besides knitting, sewing, embroidering and quilting scarves, she also enjoys baking in the kitchen with Mrs. Claus and reading to the youngest elves in her free time. This year she'll be primarily giving out gold shop scarves, but also a few RIG/EI/MC ones that were special donations. Amai believes every Gaian should be toasty warm all season long!

1. Prompt Part I - I chose to be an elf because I love randomly gifting! To be entirely honest, my motivation is a bit selfish: I do it for the "warm and fuzzies"! Gifting feels awesome! That's why I feel that I'll have no problem working as an elf. The point is to help others, not myself.
2. Prompt Part II - GCD Elf 100 is a recent college graduate, who hasn't yet abandoned his frat boy ways. His libation of choice is Egg Nog (which he refers to, affectionately as 'Nog), and he's fond of making bets/playing drinking games with the reindeer and other elves. The fact that he frequently loses said bets and games, and has to endure the penalties does little to dampen his spirits. In a reflection of his personality, GCD Elf 100 will be giving out Egg Nog, smoking items, various holiday items, and, on the suggestion of GCD Elf 716, bikini bottoms.

Prompt Part I - Please write about why you chose to be an elf and if you can follow our basic rules and principles. I really loved the idea of the group - sending gifts without telling who you are. Well, I love it when others are happy with the gifts. Also, a quite important thing, I always loved Christmas and I always wanted to do something special during Christmas in real life and on Gaia site.
Prompt Part II - Next, describe your elf character and discuss what you think you will be gifting to others. Feel free to add anything else! Kelly aka 520 is a friendly elf. Her name meant 'I love you' in Chinese and it showed her love to her friends and lover. She loves chatting as much as she could. Sometimes, Kelly even stay up late just for chatting with her dear friends. She would love to make friends with the elves since she is new. This year, Kelly wanted to send them gloves as gifts. Hands are important since we can hold others' hand with our own hands. Therefore, she thinks gloves could be a nice gift for them, it can protect their hand from being cold. <3

Principles & Practices Prompt Part I - Please write about why you chose to be an elf and if you can follow our basic rules and principles.
"I wanted to join the Elves this year because I have been living in the GCD for such a long time. At first, I lived in the AT, doing tektek's. After a while of whining and complaining, and entry prices going higher and higher, I chose the home of the little niche that is of the AT, GCD. GCD has been through the Good, the Bad and yes, unfortunately the Ugly. emo But, no matter what: we pulled through and stuck together as a family. That's what we, the GCD are: Family.
Basic rules are simple to follow. As long as you follow them, you have no harm, right? Rule-following is easy for me because I practically live with rules. If there are no rules, there is Anarchy and Anarchy is not good. Not for anyone. xp So, yes. I will be able to follow rules. biggrin "
Prompt Part II - Next, describe your elf character and discuss what you think you will be gifting to others. Feel free to add anything else!
"Entry # 525: Yuna Jingle" Yuna is a young, timid elf at first site. Once she eases up more and gets the feel for everyone, she is alive. She loves anything with fashion. She is obsessed. She also loves to dance. She spends most of her days making Elephant plushies, but she's not good with sewing. On the days she doesn't, she goes to a traditional Japanese dance class and excercises. The other days she spends time catching up on her school-work and she's very much of a procrastinator, but can do the job done.
"Hiya! The name is Yuna Jingle! Y-U-N-A-space-J-I-N-G-L-E. I am known as the Fashion Elf! wink Stop by my dorm to seek out some fashion advice! See ya around!"

1. Prompt Part I - Please write about why you chose to be an elf and if you can follow our basic rules and principles. I wanted to become an elf because first it sounded like fun. Then I realized that it was time I gave back to the community. My elf account may be new but I’m not and I need to give my thanks and spread happiness all around for this wonderful site. 2. Prompt Part II - Next, describe your elf character and discuss what you think you will be gifting to others. Feel free to add anything else! Merry is sweet, fun loving, and perky. She can be a tad forgetful sometimes and likes to make people smile. She works hard at her education and makes sure she has fun along the way. Merry’s goal this year as an elf is to give out flowers to everyone from her garden. Be it Poinsettias, Daisies, Lilies, Roses, or anything else she wishes to give them away to make everyone she meets happy.

I chose to be an elf because I love to gift anonymously. I was planning to do it on my own this year, but then I found out that a lovely group of similarly-minded Gaians existed and that I could join them, so! It was a no-brainer really whee I'm really excited to be a part of this group.
2. Prompt Part II - Next, describe your elf character and discuss what you think you will be gifting to others. Feel free to add anything else!
888 is always happy and carefree, with the cutest smile permanently stamped on her face. An eternal optimist, she's the one who loves to bring others up when they're down, and encourage them to have fun. Underneath it all she's quite naughty though, and she appreciates cleverness, wit, humour and ever so slight bending of the rules :3
Some might think her sweeter than sugar (annoyingly so, but that's okay - she never lets anything get her down), but she knows how lucky she is, and with that in mind she'll be gifting RIG prizes, which as everyone knows are won through luck.
Some will be cheaper but heartfelt, and some will be the prize of a Gaian's dreams, but as you might suspect, prizes from a RIG elf are never based on 'luck' :3.
