I've heard that mollies in general can be fin nippers and kind of aggressive. Never heard anything about specific types.

Mollies are odd like that. Most mollies will never hurt a fly (unless it's small enough to eat) but some can be quite nasty. Mollies have a personality which can change due to hormones.
I used to have a group of dalmation mollies, gentle as can be, untill one of the females got her first batch of fry. She became very agressive, going as far as attacking the much larger anglefish. I temporarilly placed her with my comet goldfish, which are larger and very fast, hoping she'd cool down (lower water temperatures often lessen agression), but even there she managed to get the fish stressed.
In the end I took her back to the shop. The other female never got that nasty after giving birth.
If you want to buy a molly, just make sure the store will take the fish back or is willing to trade the fish if something goes wrong.

I had dalmatian mollies that spent every day trying to kill one another. They mostly left anyone else alone, sometimes chasing a male guppy, but the fights between the 2 of them (a male and a female!) were nasty. I have no idea if this is common or not.
