I just got a ton of Disney music from a friend. I love (classic) Disney. It is fabulous.

I'm heavily indifferent towards Disney. However, this is probably because of my childhood, being a guy, and reading up on their company.

Even looking back the movies were so-so. Not Pixar studios and the wonderful world of Miyazaki I tend to kind of ignore the fact that Disney is involved which is easy since Disney just funds those companies.

Hey! I'm an animation major! The movies are not so-so! I mean, sleeping beauty sucks, it's true. And Cinderella could be better. But other than that they're wonderful! And just look at the animation! It's beautiful! And the music is just plain awesome. So it's amazing.

I used to love disney, but after reading up on them(like comic guy) my love for them wained. From realizing that the majority of their early films were perverted versions of their originally folk tales to the more recent bombardment of Direct to DVD sequels. I will agree that their animations is top notch, but where they lack is storytelling or to be more specific original storytelling.

Some of the older stuff lacks in story telling. But you have to understand the time in which it was being made. Snow White was only the second surviving (there were 2 earlier ones, but they are considered lost) feature length animated film ever made, and the first, The Adventures of Prince Achmed, has since slipped into obscurity (although, neat trivia, if you ever watch it you'll find a lot of the inspiration for Aladdin in it). During that time, film itself was still young. Watch most movies from the same time period and I doubt you'll find a much better story line. Of course, I'm sure you can come up with exceptions, but on the whole that was what was being produced. For their time, the older Disney movies are spectacular. And, of course, you can't tell me that The Lion King, Mulan, or Hunchback of Notre Dame don't have good story lines. Even if they did butcher their inspirations, they were great movies.

The lion king is almost a total rip off of Kimba the White lion. Too bad the Japanese love Disney so much that they didn't want to sue.

So yes their animation was by far the best their was until this century when you have things like Happy Feet, and Sherk. Which far, far surpasses what Disney can now create.

Seriously the mouse has lost it.

Also if we stack Disney up against the foreign market like Little Mermaid next to Kiki Deliver Service yeah Disney fails. Granted that even with a big budget Disney can't overshadow the effects that Studio Ghibli can with just the basics and most of SG works are hand-drawn.

Yeah I rather take my monsters to see a Studio Ghibli film than a Disney one any day. At least Miyazaki's ladies aren't waiting for some prince to save them half the damn time.

Disney much like Superman just seem dated and unrealistic in today's world.

So I get what you are saying Hydra and I don't want to totally bash your love for Disney because yeah they were ahead of their time but yeah I can't share your bliss.

I totally watched Kimba when I was younger. Good stuff. And yes, it was a rip-off, but it's still a good movie.

Happy Feet isn't actually a very good movie, although it is adorable. The plot is lacking and the animation really isn't that good. The first Shrek was hilarious, although, again, the animation isn't all that good, but the others were just them trying to make money.

Miyazaki is amazing, and is one of my favorite animators of all time. But again, he has so much more technology and other resources available to him than Disney did. You have to look at the Disney films in regards to the time they were made in. Disney made animation as we know it, and without The Little Mermaid there might not be a Kiki's Delivery Service.

As for the sexism that is very prevalent in most of the Disney films (and believe me, as a woman it drives me crazy), again, they are a product of their time period. You can't write off movies just because they're a little dated. Disney movies are timeless. That's one of the beautiful things about them. There's parts of them that are undesirable, but the stories themselves are beautiful and we wouldn't have animation today as we know it if Disney didn't exist. You'll be hard pressed to find an animator today who wasn't influenced by Disney in some way, great or small.

You can dislike the movies because you don't like the plot, but you can't deny that they're incredible, influential, and extraordinarily well done, particularly for their time.

I think in this case we'll just have to agree to disagree.

I will not deny Disney influence and I will admit that Lion King, Mulan, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame have good story lines(Although I believe A Goofy Movie and Brother Bear have better). Unfortunately said films are all marred by unneeded sequels. I. My love for Disney was marred by its constent repacking of older films and its need to push Direct-to-DVD sequels. I also believe that they are one of the main reasons animation in america has been permanently associated with the G/PG. Once again I have to agree with Comic guy, Disney is much like Superman. During his time he was and for the most part the most influential comic book character ever created, but he(like disney) were born out of a depression era US to uplift others with their Idealism and escapism. So I guess to wrap this up I used to love Disney(mostly their 1980s-mid 90s animated Tv series), but their business practices and their lack of originality(I'm guessing this is why they acquired PIXAR and the rights to release Studio Ghibli films).

Hydra I just want you to understand that used to love Disney, but they just seemed to have lost their drive to created good films.

I agree. 110%. The new Disney stuff SUCKS! It's the classic Disney that's awesome!

Yeah I agree to disagree and for the record my favorites gotta be 100 Dal. and Oliver and Company. (The only movies that I know is loosely based of a Dickson's novel that I enjoy)

Oliver and Company was probably my favourite movie ever as a kid. Looking back, I kinda regret selling it in a yard sale when we moved.

hmm can't remember my first Disney movie. I think it was the Paul Newman one you know the Aussie rats I think. *headdesk* what's the name of that one?

Yeah I also lost or sold most of my Disney collection and replaced it with either live action movies or anime. I should have kept that VHS copy of Little Mermaid because that probably will be a collectors item.
