Trista

Brewer Apprentice/Candidate to High Reaches weyr
PostPosted: Wed Oct 07, 2009 9:49 am

Name: Trista
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual but flexible.
Craft: brewer
Rank: apprentice /candidate

History: Trista is very familiar with alcoholic beverages and the serving there of. Her father is a brewer and she has spent much of her time when she was old enough tending booths at gathers and serving drinks. Her mother having died in childbirth Trista has never known anything but the life she has had. Raised by wives of other brewers and friends of her father she grew in a bright, happy, noisy world with many extended non blood siblings. Her father is a warm gregarious man who lives for his daughter and has filled her life with laughter and good friends.

Appearance: Trista is tall and thin with long black hair that she keeps pinned up her complexion is fair and her eyes a bright and cheerful green.

Personality: Sassy and outgoing Trista is loud spoken and wont take slack from anyone. She can be hot tempered and argumentative. Though she is clever enough to know there are times that she needs keep her mouth shut and she rarely holds a grudge. This means she is quick to anger but it rarely lasts for long. She plays hard but works just as hard. She is a good listener and has heard her share of sad tales. She is generous in the giving of her friendship and her time.

Due to how she was raised she tends to trust her own judgment rather than relying on someone else's. Her father, though he loved her dearly wasn't really there for her as much as he should have been and while she loves him very much she feels that some of the decisions he made in his life were not very good and it has caused her to realize that the people in charge aren't always right. If she must follow someone else she will not do so blindly. Trista can be overly critical, because of this and sometimes winds up going it alone or taking chances she shouldn't because she feels she is right and won't back down. She isn't stupid and if she feels the leader is being sensible she will follow directions. But she is quite opinionated and isn't afraid of taking the consequences if she feels her cause is just.

She grew up having to fend off wandering fingers and inform custom when they had had enough to drink so she is capable of taking care of herself. Quick of feet and mind she dances through life taking each day as it comes. Some may think it a hard life but Trista doesn't consider it so. She lives her life to the fullest extent that she can because every day is precious.

Other: (If you don't want the OOC responsibility of metal dragons, put "no gold/bronze" here. Anything else you think we should know about this character.)

Trista's Song Clutch Touching

Trista stepped lightly towards the eggs laid out upon the sands feeling more than a little out of her depth. The warm soft sand moved strangely beneath her feet as she followed the others to the eggs, not being used to walking on a shifting surface Trista was forced to concentrate on each step. That was fine, it helped to distract her from what she was about to do.

She had been fine waiting with her fellow candidates while everyone was gathered together. Making small talk was a skill she had learned early on in life as a brewer's daughter, after all. But now that she was here standing beneath the towering presence of the Queen everything seemed so much more real.

Oh she wasn't afraid as such. She knew enough about dragons to know one would never intentionally hurt anyone. All the same just standing in Dorath's shadow it was difficult not to feel at least a little bit in awe of the power the dragon possessed.

Still Trista was never one to let her insecurities overcome her. Squaring her shoulders she stood proudly before the towering mother of the clutch she was about to meet. Dipping in a curtsy worthy of a lady holder she smiled up at the gold and her rider eyes full of admiration and respect.

Sure of herself now she crossed the remaining distance to the eggs without a thought to anything but the waiting clutch.

Reverently she touched an egg. Trista smiled softly noting the different feelings coming from each tiny dragon. The Noisy Rainforest Egg left her feeling light hearted and smiling while the
Brown Swirl Egg brought her protective nurturing feelings to the fore. "Don't worry, I'm sure you'll find your perfect match." She told it reassuringly before moving on to the next egg.

The small but Blinding Red Egg caused Trista to pull her hand away and take a step back for a better look. "Bold as a raging weyrbeast you are. We may or may not be meant for each other but either way, I already like you." The brewer apprentice grinned as she felt a warm fuzziness in return when she put her hands back on the bright shell.

Trista moved quickly away from the negative sending of the Arctic Waters Egg and had little patience for the smugness of the Seaside egg.

To the Sunset egg Trista offered a soothing caress as she wondered about the focused intensity of the egg.

She stayed a while near the Tye dye egg liking the the color of it. The Sweetheart egg seem almost a little bit frustrated at it's inability to move and Trista gave it an understanding pat.

The calmness of the Pink Raptor Egg was refreshing after the emotions some of the other eggs were sending. And Trista found herself soaking it in like a sponge.

Still smiling from her encounter with the raptor egg Trisa found herself before the quiet Green Paradise egg and the equally silent Cinnamon. Still they deserved a hello just as any of the other eggs did and gently sent them both all her warm thoughts. Not knowing if they would hear them or not but having decided it didn't really matter if she ever knew one way or the other, so long as she tried.

Finally she approached the three eggs she had not yet touched. The impostor gold left her with a sense of curiosity as if it wanted to know more about her. But she didn't have much time. The others were finishing their rounds and there were two eggs left she hadn't touched. So reluctantly she left the egg behind.

Trisha let her hands fall gently against the Sunrise egg pleased with the feel of the smooth shell against her fingertips. She wondered at the dragon that might be inside. Stepping back she shook her head. No this one was probably not for her. Even so she wished it well.

One last egg and the most daunting of all. Taking a deep breath Trista stepped boldly toward the gold egg. Ever so gently she ran her hand over the gleaming shell. It was even less likely for the dragon within this shell to chose her as her partner, she was only a brewer's apprentice after all. She wasn't even weyrfolk.

But even so, it was a glorious dream. She couldn't even imagine what her father's regular customers would think to hear that she of all people had become a gold rider. Shifting her hand on the bright surface Trista laughed softly, no it wasn't likely. But then stranger things had happened. Giving the egg one last affectionate rub Trisha stepped away from the eggs giving remaining candidates more room.

The Morning After The Hatching

The morning after the hatching Trista woke up slowly. She stretched taking her time. The candidate barracks were much less empty than before and it would probably be a while before they filled again. Pushing herself up out of bed the tired candidate made her way over to the bathing area. Scrubbing vigorously with soapsand she considered what had happened the day before.

The hatching had been like nothing else Trista could remember in her relatively short life. So many candidates had been hurt or outright killed. Though she really couldn't really blame the dragons for it. But sad as it was life was hard sometimes. Especially for riders. If her short stay at the weyr had taught her anything it was that dragon riding was serious business and you took care with your work or you dealt with the consequences. Some of which were devastating. Not only to the rider but to the dragon and all they protected as well.

If she were not such a resolute person it might have frightened her away. But she was never one to walk away before she was finished with something. She still had a chance to stand and stand she would until she was too old to do so. If her dragon was out there she was determined to find her or him.

It wasn't that she was unhappy with her life as a brewer's apprentice but this was something new and challenging. Women in the brewing craft were not as well favored as the men, perhaps here she could earn a bit of respect. She could try anyway. But it wouldn't happen if she turned tail and left because of a little fear.

Fear was good, it kept you sharp, but only if you did not give in to it. Having made up her mind about the hatchings proceedings she pushed it into the back of her mind and started to dry off and prepare for today's chores.

She had no idea what the future would bring, but whatever would happen she had no intention of sitting and watching it pass her by. She'd meet it head on.
