Welcome everyone to the free-for-all RP contest for the youngest of Karishma and Kanobi's eggus! We are looking for a home for the eggu below, and we don't care if you're a newbie or an old hand. This eggu comes from a large family full of interesting characters, sane, insane, and even a doctor as the father. As a note, since most of the kirin in the family are RPed to a greater or lesser extent, Corny and I are looking for someone who will actively RP, or at least won't go poof on us. This eggu's paternal grandfather and aunt have disappeared, and given how much all of us love this family, this eggu will be activity required.

This contest opens at 6pm PST (7pm MST, 8pm CST, 9pm EST) Tuesday, October 6th, and ends at 6pm PST (7pm MST, 8pm CST, 9pm EST) Tuesday, October 13th. Winners will be announced as soon afterward as possible.

EDIT: I'm extending this contest to Saturday, October 17th, same closing hour.

Conditions, Rules, Etc.

1. This eggu is most certainly activity-required. Please don't poof. Everyone in the family and a number of the regs not in the family dearly love this family, and it would be a very sad day for a lot of people if you poofed. You don't have to be an active RPer, but we'd still like to hear from you. ^^

2. Eggus can't really do squat, so please make all responses in the foal stage.

3. Gaia ToS apply, as do all the rules of Aerithe. Don't beg or plead, don't guilt-trip, be nice, etc. All that jazz. biggrin

4. Put, "Doctor's Orders." You'll know where. wink

5. If permission to use a kirin is not granted, especially for Prompt 2, DO NOT USE THAT KIRIN. For example, Prabhat will almost definitely not meet his nieces (/nephew) until they are adults, if at all.

Still with me? Cool, time for you guys to meet the family! biggrin

OK, time to introduce the family! Just as a note, if it is specified that a given kirin may not be used in a response to Prompt 2, please honor the owner's request that that kirin not be used. The foals will also not be meeting Kanobi's father and sister, as their owner has disappeared from this shop, leaving a sad gap in the family. Please do not include them, Silvanus and Era will not be present unless their owner comes back. >>

The Parents.

Kanobi is a low profile male and would rather blend into the background than stand out in a crowd. He hates fighting, both verbally and physically, and is more than willing to run away instead of defending himself. One of the few things he is comfortable talking about is his practice of healing. He learned about healing among kirin as a foal and has followed that track of life passionately ever since. Afraid of risks elsewhere, he does most of his medical testing on himself.

Afraid of the entire adult female species, he met Karishma while she was a foal and still safe to talk to. It took time, but he was eventually able to realize his feelings for the spunky female. Still somewhat shy around Kari even though they’re mates, he reacted to the news of her pregnancy by fainting. He desires to do his best for his mate and children, learning what fatherhood can truly entail. Scary… but exciting at the same time.
Permission: Granted.

Kari is a spirited, intelligent girl who's easily bored. She's a bit snarky, but if she likes you, she can be a little obsessive and possessive. She's difficult to impress, but Kanobi and his knowledge of medicine (as well as work testing new cures out) have definitely fired up the imagination that lay deep within her. She's the opposite of her brother Prabhat: she's got her mother's sensibility and her father's pessimism. No wonder they don't get along very well.

She met Kanobi as a small filly who periodically talked to the friendly stallion. When she achieved adulthood, she went wandering, and on the way home, she met Kanobi again, and they have come to not only love each other, but also to be expecting foals! With the birth of her three children, she's started to learn what it means to be a parent. As her little ones grow up, she will be reconnecting with her parents and brothers, though given how she and Prabhat quarrel, this may take a long time.
Permission: Granted.

The Sisters.

Meinir has an unknown personality at this point. Go ahead and imagine her to be like her father at this point.
Permission: Granted.

Sam and I have not developed a personality for Kamala, as we are waiting until she hatches to do so. ^^; Anything to do with Kamala in the response will be taken as unofficial. We'll just have to see how Kamala, Meinir, and their sibling click when they hatch. ^^;
Permission: ...I guess so.

The Maternal Grandparents.

Lakshmi is not only really, really lucky, but she's really kind-hearted and fun-loving, as well as a bit of a water-baby. She's an optimist, but pretty practical, too. She's aware that she's pretty, but will only flaunt it if she chooses to. She's very much in control of herself and her fortunes, but she doesn't risk the chance that her luck may someday turn. Very reliable, and a cool head in an emergency...though she *can* be a bit of a damsel in distress, under certain circumstances. She's a natural swimmer, so the fact that she's lived near rivers since before she was born has never proven a problem.

Lakshmi is a very devoted mate to Abhyagni, and fell in love with him when she met him and started tagging along at their herd's heels. She was delighted to be a mother, but her first three children have made her a little sad: Kari's a distant sort, Prabhat's storytelling makes her worried that he'll become the boy who cried wolf, and Upahaara...she has tried to shelter Upahaara from the outside world. Nevertheless, she loves her family dearly, and the arrival of grandchildren has excited her greatly. She is delighted to be a grandmother of three and happy that Kari has come so far out of her stubborn shell that she has a family now.
Permission: Granted.

Partly due a lonely childhood, Abhyagni is convinced that if he stays in one place for too long, bad things will happen. Pessimistic and always prepared for the worst case scenario, Abhy blames all of life's ills on himself despite the fact that he isn't truly unlucky.

A devoted mate, Abhyagni loves Lakshmi more than he ever thought possible, and has become much more level headed and even (dare I say it?) happy in her presence. He still goes on long patrols, however, and worries about his little family. He is particularly concerned about his strained relationship with his children, especially Kari and Prabhat, and blames himself for Upa's insanity. Currently he is somewhat depressed, and received the news of grandchildren with mixed dread and delight.
Permission: Granted.

Kari's Brothers.

Prabhat's relationship with his family is... well, let's just say it's complicated. He loves his mother and worships his father, but neither one understands him very well, and his relationship with his siblings aren't much better. He loves Upa dearly, and feels a deep seated need to protect him, but this is mixed with resentment because he feels responsible for another and doesn't like being tied down. And when it comes to Kari... well, they aren't on speaking terms right now, and Prabhat has sworn to steer clear of Kari and her children.

What's the cause of all this? Prabhat's stories. A natural born story teller, Prabhat has always seen the world through different eyes than others, and this has lead many to treat him like a liar. He also has his family's classic wandering itch, and rarely sees his family. The last time he saw them, he had an argument with Kari and stormed off.
Permission: Denied.

As a result of a combination between his mother's luck and his father's belief in his own bad luck, Upa has developed cranial insanitosis, or, in less scientific terms, he's gone bonkers. He believes that he is a fish and that everyone he meets is some aquatic creature or other. He does realize that Kari and Prabhat are his siblings, but he pretends that he doesn't realize that. Other than that, he honestly believes that everyone is a fish or something like that. He himself is a Christmas wrasse, and I'm surprised you didn't know that! Kari is an angelfish, in Upa's book.
Permission: Try not to use him much.

Kanobi's Family.

Gardenia is very demure, she's the kind of mare that bends to the will of her stallion. She's quiet and sad that her daughter is gone. She tends to be somewhat withdrawn, but with the young she's very attentive and affectionate. She is the eggu's paternal grandmother.
Permission: Granted.

Naoise is very laid-back. He doesn't fuss much so he's gonna be the go to uncle for fun. He likes to lay around and be lazy. He's single and enjoys his freedom, he hates his father for abandoning them.
Permission: Granted.

Prompts.
Choose one of the three. You can combine prompts, but please state if you are doing so.

Prompt 1
Your father, Kanobi, is a doctor of sorts. He uses plants to heal illness and injury, which has sucked in your mother when she isn't busy. What do you do with your father's medical practices? Do you help him? Do you make any mistakes learning how to heal another kirin, or do you just try to steer clear of medicine altogether?

Prompt 2
You come from a large family, though your mother's side of the family is...weird...some may even say dysfunctional...whereas your father's side of the family is pretty normal. What kind of relationship do you have with your grandfather, grandmothers, and uncles Naoise and Upahaara? You may use any kirin where permission is granted, just be aware of the personality and history of each kirin in the family.

Prompt 3
Part of growing up with siblings is arguing. Your parents have different attitudes to conflict, including arguments and trouble: your father doesn't like conflict, and will leave; whereas your mother is so stubborn and spirited that she stands her ground. How do you deal with an argument with one of your two sisters? Do you leave the argument, like your father would, or do you keep arguing, like your mother? What are you arguing about?

Foal's Name: Tea'la
Prompt: 1
Whose Orders?: Doctor's Orders! X3
Response:

Tea'la watched her father silently as he attempted another of his medical "practices". She sat back on her haunches and took in every detail. The art of healing throughly entranced the young foal. Once he was done he left the small clearing, apparently back towards her mother and siblings. But the little one decided not to follow, she wanted to try out her own skills. So she waited until she could no longer hear him.

The coast was clear and Tea moved quickly. She darted across the clearing searching for the plants she had seen her father use. At the base of a tree she found some clovers. With a quick n** she placed them on a nearby fallen tree trunk. That would be where she placed the rest of her gathered items. With her muzzle low to the ground she searched for some mushroom heads in the tall grass, she found some small white ones similar to the ones she'd seen earlier.

Just a few more items to gather and she could test it out herself. She used her front hooves to knock off some of the bark from a nearby tree. Tea'la glanced around for the next plant, a large blue flower. She spotted something in the distance and ran towards it. As she got closer she noticed the flower was actually a blossom on a vine. She tried to think back, I think that's the same flower... She tilted her head to analyze the flora, her eyes squinted. Its scent was quite fragrant, almost alluring even. The young foal picked it and trotted back to the clearing.

A few more common objects were added, such as a bit of grass and dried leaves. She stared down at the items wondering what to do next. "Well, Dad just ate them right?" Too much time had passed for the young ki'rin to remember.

She braced herself and began munching on the leaves and grass. Nothing happened except for it being a it crunchier than normal. Tea continued to eat the rest. After she finally finished the last of it, the flower, she felt her stomach do an uneasy flip. Her head felt light-headed as the "alluring" fragrance filled her head and nostrils. She stumbled backwards and fell.

Her legs shook wildly as she tried to stand. Minutes passed before the pain and disorientation wore off. Tea'la discovered she could walk again and quickly ran back home. She was worried her parents would reprimand her for disappearing. And she certainly didn't want them to see what she had done. She was embarrased at herself, and she didn't need for anyone else to tell her she failed.

It was just before duck by the time she reached home. There she hesitantly greeted her parents. Tea couldn't look into their eyes, and the two picked up on it. Her mother peered down at her, "What's the matter? Are you hurt?" Even her father chimed in. "What happened?"

The young foal looked up finally, opened her mouth and was ready to explain it all. But her parent's abrupt laughter stopped her. "What? What's so funny?"

Slowly there laughter quieted down enough for Karishma to speak. "Your tongue my dear."

Tea stuck out her tongue in an attempt to see what was wrong with it. She couldn't. Her mother laughed softly and nudged her softly in the direction of the drinking pool. Bent over the water's reflection she stuck her tongue out once more. Tea'la was speechless, her tongue was bright blue!

Thankfully, in a few days passing her tongue returned to its natural state. Tea'la decided to chalk that fiasco up as a "learning" experience. It might be a while before she tries another such experiment again but knowing the young foal she will.

Foal's Name: Asher
Prompt: Sort of a combination of 1 & 3 ^^;
Whose Orders?: Doctor's Orders
Response:

Asher wanted so much to be like his father; cool and collected. Helping kirin who were sick to get better. But he knew he was more like his mother - impatient and to the point - and he just couldn't see himself in the role of a healer. There was just so much that could go wrong, the accidental slip that could sever someone's life thread instead of mending it. Still, he watched his father work. And that's what started the argument...

"Why do you always just sit back and watch Father from a distance?" Meinir began, after catching him at it yet again. "You'll learn more if you come closer."

"I don't want to," he told her, suddenly defensive. What business of her's was it? She didn't know of his fears because he'd never told her. And that was the way he preferred it.

His sister just looked at him expectantly, the question in her eyes.

"Look, I just don't want to, ok? You wouldn't understand," he accused, avoiding her gaze. Suddenly he wanted to tell her everything; why he was so afraid to learn about healing, what it would cost if he messed up but he couldn't do it, just couldn't. "Just.. Just leave me alone!" His sister was already turning away, avoiding the conflict. Stubbornness had kept him from telling her and stubbornness kept him from going after her. Instead, he turned and ran away. So intent on putting distance between them, he didn't pay attention to his surroundings and stumbled, gashing his leg.

"Great, now what do I do?" Asher asked himself, sounding forlorn and petulant to his own ears. Sighing he looked around and his eyes fell on a plant he recognized. It looked sort of like extra thick blades of grass but each blade had thorny ridges along its length. "Dad uses this for cuts, I think," he murmured, thoughtful now. Hesitant, he limped over to it and, before he lost his nerve, broke off one of the blades. Thick viscous fluid dripped from it; he had indeed seen his father use this plant on small cuts before. Focused now, he dipped his head and smeared the liquid over the raw place on his skin and instantly felt it cool from a hot line of pain to a dull throb.

"Maybe I can be like him..."

Foal's Name: Sirona
Prompt:1
Whose Orders?: Doctor's Orders
Response: Sirona had finally managed to sneak away from her parents while they were occupied with her sisters. She didn't think they had noticed. Father had Kamela pulling at his tail and Mum was showing Meinir her favorite plants dad used in his healing. She had not yet been away from her family for even a second and she felt she was now old enough, sure she was still a foal....but it was soooo boring. She wanted to see what it was like without the others around. Plus this was the perfect chance for her to show her father, who she adored, how good of a healer she would be. She wanted to be just like him when she grew up. Helping all the other kirin get better when they were sick or hurt. She intentively watched him everytime he practiced his medicine. She trotted off into the nearby forest looking to see if she could find any strange plants. A plant that was strange was definetly a plant that heals. She knew so much already, she thought. Prancing along she came across a bright pink set of flowers shapped sort of like bells with brown spots inside of them. "Oh this is perfect, daddy will be so proud." She bit off a few stalks of the flowers and arranged them in a neat pile on the ground that would make it easier to carry in her mouth. But bringing just the flowers back wasn't enough. A true healer had to know what they did. So she decided to eat some first, they were bitter..."ewww" but she continued to eat them, because everyone knew healing herbs tasted bad. After she had eaten a few of the flowers and leaves, because that was all she could manage to get down, she picked up the flowers and trotted back home proudly. She hadn't actually wandered very far and her family was still doing pretty much the same thing. She started to feel really sick to her stomach. "Oooh" She dropped the flowers. "Daddy, daddy...look what I brought you"

Kanobi turned his head to look at his daughter standing there so proudly.

At that moment Sirona started throwing up. She did not feel good at all.

Kanobi rushed over to her and she laid down at his feet. "I don't feel good daddy" faking a smile she said..."I brought you medicine"
