Intro The wind blows and picks up the fallen leaves. An old woman sweeps the path that leads from the main side walk, to the little, "Open Arms Inn" humming happily. The crisp Autumn air is occasionally filled with the sound of a passing car. Inside the inn, an old man can be heard. He is yelling for the thousandth time for his grandson to wake up. People begin to stir and wake, leaving their rooms to go about their daily business. Those who have been awake, enjoy a homemade breakfast, while they sit and talk. "The Open Arms Inn" which rarely gets visitors, has been full for the past two weeks. Strange people keep coming. People that whisper about a sacred tree. Many people in Driftwood can't help but wonder what land these people come from. These strangers seem completely surprised by everyday items and electronics, while others not only know, but have more advanced versions of them. Things have been getting strange, and it all seems to revolve around the Open Arms' new clients. Many cannot help but wonder what is this, "Tree of the Ancients" that's got these foreigners so excited.

Okay, just a few notes before we start. On the subject of how the tree children meet their destined partners, I'll leave that up to each of you. Weather they tracked them down, are lost in the city. or something else is up to all of you. One thing to note, the tree children and their human partners can sense one another, so there's something to keep in mind. Start There it was, just a few more inches and he could reach it. The beautiful autumn leaves on the tree seemed to dance just for him. As he came near the tree, a fruit big enough to fit a person fell. Slowly, he approached it, not knowing what to expect. As a hand pressed against the wall of the fruit from the inside, Jack jumped back and a voice seemed to whisper his own name in his mind...
"JACK!!!! Get your butt out of bed! We've got customers who won't wait for you to catch up on your beauty sleep!" His grandfather's voice sounded loud over the sound of his alarm.
Slowly, Jack opened his eyes. He laid flat on his back in bed, staring at the ceiling. It was only another odd dream, but much more real then the others..And those had been pretty real! As he sat up, he realized he was covered in sweat...His days were beginning odder and odder.Sid made sure to get a seat in the corner, away from others, while he ate his breakfast. He hadn't been in this odd city long, but he already knew this wasn't the place for him. Horseless carriages, picture boxes, giant metal birds...This was all to much. What had made Uncle Tom think he could find peace here?
-"Sid, listen to me." His uncle had sounded so serious those two weeks ago, "There's a city known as Driftwood...I want to you to go there...Don't ask why. Just know you'll find what you truly seek. I'm sorry but the council has forbidden me from telling you more, hell I could get in trouble for what I just told you." Then his uncle ruffled his hair, like he use to when Sid was small. "Your a good kid. Remember, no matter what they say...Your destined for greatness."-
What could be so great about living every day afraid of metal monsters? Two weeks, it felt like two years. How was he supposed to find something to make his life happier? There was nothing here except people always in a hurry and those metal things. He missed home, at least it was only kids who he had to worry about there.
He shook his head, "No, I'm going to make you proud Uncle, I swear it!" He looked around, and realized, not only had he stood up when he said that, but that he had said it out loud...And people were staring. Slowly he sat back down, feeling embarrassed.

Gigi woke slowly, piecing together where she was. A town called Driftwood, a place called Open Arms Inn. Then she thought of why she was there. Ancient human remains. And that though she sat up and smiled to the morning rays streaming through the quaint windows. Getting out of bed, she tip toed across the room, trying not to wake the four other archaeologists sharing the room. She quickly dressed and brushed her hair. Excitement pulsed though her veins. Her first real dig was but a few hours away. She looked in the mirror as she braided her long golden hair.
Gigi looked into the reflection her own blue eyes when she was finished. Soon she was lost in her mind. In her heart she felt someone pulling at her soul. She got the odd sensation of talons gently gripping her and huge wings lifting her towards the warmth of the sun. She smiled. The vision was strong, like a dream. At that moment Gigi knew she was in the right place at the right time.
A slap on her back jolted her out of this odd mesmerizing vision. "You okay girly?" Jackie said in her southern twang. "Yea, yea. I'm fine. I'm just gonna catch some breakfast," Gigi replied, shaking her head. "Don't be late for the briefing!" Jackie whispered after Gigi as she shut the door.
Gigi stepped down the stairs and found herself a nice table by a window. She wasn't in any hurry to eat. She just enjoyed the warmth of the sun upon her face and the excitement building in her body.
Zaza dreamed. She dreamed of a dark haired girl dancing alone. Her dance was slow and sad, but had tiny convulsions of madness. Zaza felt her heart reach out to the girl. She tried to shout to the girl that she was coming, but not words passed her lips. Starting a gust of wind, Zaza picked the girl up and began to dance a beautiful dance with her in the air. They complimented each other’s styles. Their hearts beat together. It was harmony and it was beautiful.
Waking from beneath a tree Zaza smiled. Her dreams of this girl were becoming more vivid. She knew that she was getting closer. Thomas had told her that one day she would find someone who would complete her dance. Zaza was sure that this faceless dark haired girl of her dreams was the one.
Zaza stood and brushed herself off. She looked around the little park in the middle of the subdivision she had found herself in. She closed her eyes and listened to the wind. It pointed her North. She kicked her feet, did a little twirl and began making her way closer to Driftwood along the cracked sidewalk.

Chiko woke up from another weird dream that she's been having lately. While looking at the ceiling with her different color eyes she thought about what had happen last night when they got to Open Arms Inn, more like before they left. "I wish the just left me at the old place." She whisper slowly as she turn her head to her two fishes. "Hello Cero. Leo." She smiled a little to them as she tapped the small glass bowl. The small orange and black fish swam around like crazy when they heard a loud tap.
A sigh escaped her normal red lips as she slowly got out of bed, trying her best not to wake up her Sister-in-law Maids. They were sent to her for safety reason she hated. Chiko sister-in-law was afraid she would run off instead of coming to her for marriage. 'I wish they didn't have to sleep in the same room as me' she thought as she put on her clothes and brushed her long black hair. "Oh What to do about this hair of mine." she whisper to herself as she grabbed a red ribbon. Chiko pulled her hair up trying to put it in a bun, which she finally mange to do.
When Chiko was a ready to leave the two maids, with her art book in hand she left the room and head down stairs. Seeing most of the people eating and talking to each other with happiness in their voice, She was the one to stay quiet towards anyone. When she passed every up to get to the door a little girl had tripped over her feet making Chiko feel sorry for her. Unlike Chiko she had to pick the poor child up and set her on her feet before leaving the Inn. "Let see. Where to go?" she asked no one as she found a small spot under a tree. She slowly sat herself on the ground and began drawing her dreams once again. Zero stared at the Blonde hair girl who was spinning in the sun while he watched before reaching a hand out to her to grab. The girl seem to not seem him and kept spinning around in the sun. Zero woke up with a sad expression on his face as he woke up from under the summer tree. His baby blue eyes stared at the sun for a very long time before looking forward. 'I guess I can't sit here and wait.' He thought.
Zero wasn't going lose his chance in meet this blonde girl that seem to love the warmth from the sun. 'So which way should I go?' he asked himself in his mind as he watched a bird go south which meant he should follow. 'Alright my friend that way it is.' He started to walk with his hands in his back as he let the sun warm him up a little as the cool wind blew his silver long hair which he wonder if the girl would say something about it.

Hazel Wolfsbane
The morning light broke through the canopy of leaves casting reddish hues over the grass below. A stiff breeze brought a chill, hinting at the weather that was to come and gently caught the leaves that were acumulating below an immense tree. Like so many others that hat succumed to the changing of the seasons, this tree was decked with brillant yellows, red, and the ever so rare green leaf. Little could it be seen but this one tree was caught in a perpetual autumn.
Deep inside it's protective cocoon of branches Hazel sat precariously upon a branch. Had she had the ability to speak surely she would have sighed and lamented upon her situation. This morning, like so many others, had brought the sight a boy. A light haired boy hidden somewhere in the town nearby, just beyond her reach. Her mind called out to him. Come. No words were uttered but there meaning was carried by the wind towards the forest edge. Lawrence Carrol
Lawrence woke to the chirping of birds. Rising he glanced around his cottage. It was dusty to say the least and not very large either. Still it was home. A faint chill permeated the place. Ever since he first decided to abandon his life in the village there had been an unexplainable cold that followed his every footstep no matter what the weather. Even in the searing summer sun it remained.
Lawrence made his way to the fireplace and struck a flint. Crimson flames sparked to life, dancing among the logs and casting shadows about. "Another day gone, another day here." He said to himself while staring into the flames, his deep voice breaking the silence that filled the cottage. For years now he had been the sole inhabitant of it, only the forest itself as company. Somehow it felt as if that was soon going to change.

It was the warmth that stole Serina from her dream. She groaned lightly and leaned against her tree, saddened that she couldn't keep sleeping. The dream was just so real! But it's detail's were slipping away from her memory, quicker than the rate at which she could keep them.
The only thing that remained was a face, but it was blurry and soon, it too slipped from her memory. She stood up, tired, bored, and curious about this repeating dream she was having. Her common sense told her that that was who she needed to bond with and felt this strong, and sudden, urge to go into the Driftwood Forest.
She smiled placidly, put her hand on the bark and kissed it goodbye. She had never left it before, but the urge was too strong to ignore. Stepping lightly, the winter angel left her tree for the first time, and entered the forest.

A bird chirped loudly at the window by Carissa's bed and, at first, nothing happened. Then her lip twitched in irritation, followed by her silver-green eyes snapping open. The woman groaned as she sat up, then chucked her pillow at the window, knocking down the blanket that had been keeping the light away from her extreemly non morning personed self. With a yelp, she hid under the covers.
"Be gone, evil!" Carissa stuck her hand out and made shooing motions at the sun. However, when that did not seem to work, she scrunched her eyes closed and jumped up with the blanket, replacing it. Her mother was coming up the stairs to wake her up anyway, so she didn't try falling back asleep. Instead, she huffily threw on the first objects her hands came across. "I'm awake!" She called when her mother arrived at the door. The woman laughed and turned right back around.
After pushing her gold-lensed sunglasses onto her face, Carissa grabbed her favorite backpack, and left the room. She'd had another dream, a dream of soft snow and a strange guy. Uncertain as to why, she decided that today was another day for her to leave. Instead of procrastinating, this time she was prepaired to leave. Her backpack had been stuffed with clothes and a pair of boots, so she'd need to grab something else for food and water.
"Cari?" Her mother looked at her worriedly.
"No big deal, I'll be back in a week, ya?" She winked at her mother and grabbed a cloth bag, filling it up.
"Last time you said that it took a month." Her mother pouted.
"I'll find what I'm looking for this time." Carissa's voice was determined. As soon as everything was set, Carissa left her childhood home in search of something... better. She'd heard about an Inn people were flocking to- why not try there?

Jack stood at the edge of the woods. Why was he here? Grand pa had asked him to pick up milk...So why had he gone to the woods afterwards instead of straight home? He didn't know, but he'd been doing it every day for weeks. The odd thing was, every time we went to go in, he was scared, as if his life was about to change forever...And he didn't want that. He was happy with things the way they were.
Yet this aching inside, begged him to go in. At times, it seemed like another will was trying to pull him in. This odd feeling was another reason he had never ventured in. Still, if he didn't now it may haunt him forever.
"Okay," he sighed, "I'll go and have a look, but there won't be anything to see. Just a few old trees." The sun glinted off his long sleeved orange shirt as he went in. "Come to think of it...Even as a kid...I don't think I ever went in here." His Grand Ma once said it was dangerous...That something lived in the woods...Something that didn't like humans. He believed they called it the, "Spirit king," it was an old legend people use to tell their kids, like the boogie man. Jack guessed he'd get to see if the legend was true.
Sid had to wonder...What possessed him to leave the inn? It was safe there, but out here was were the metal monsters were. So why was he walking down the street?
"This town." He thought to himself, "It has woods surrounding it. What is this feeling? Magic! There's something magic and ancient in those woods...One seems nice, but the other is definitely ancient and angry. What was that rumor I heard? The Spirit king? If those rumors are true, then I doubt any of these people know how dangerous those woods are.."
He felt a chill go down his spine. He wondered if anyone would actually be dumb enough to go in there. This spirit king, from what Sid had head, sounded like a Fay, a nature spirit. But he didn't understand, Fays were usually friendly, why had this one gone so wild? Well, whatever the reason, it was mad about something.

The flower turned brown with death. It sprang back up, perfectly healthy. Gloria flicked the daisy away, bored with it and worried. The town named Driftwood rose before her, and yet Gloria stayed safely in the shadows of the forest. This was yet another town Gloria was visiting, trying to find...someone.
So far, she had visited a few sparsely populated towns, preferring not to go in the city. The city had too many people for Gloria to feel comfortable. Besides, this village...called to her, in a way. Now all that was left was for Gloria to find her bonded one. She sensed he was here, in this village, and not able to find him made Gloria frustrated. Stepping out of the forest lightly, she looked back at the forest once.

Making his way gracefully through the thinning trees, Taro breathed in the cold scents of the early season. He had been traveling for a very long time - he was many, many leagues from his mother tree. After spending so long near her, he knew he had to leave, knew he would go very far to find... that someone of whom his instincts told him to call to. It was female, he knew, his same age. But he had no idea where to find her, so she must find him. Taro broke from the undergrowth, and slowed. He stood now, on a cliff, hundreds of feet above more wilderness below. This wasn't the first mountain he'd had to cross on his way to... wherever he was going. Farther down the mountain, - very far - the open land splayed before him. Fields of lush grasses and flowers, a lake, and tiny spots gathered on the horizon. Squinting, he tried to make them out , though couldn't comprehend what the small, squat things were. A human would say that they were called buildings, but Taro had never met a human. Afraid he was, of the unknown ahead. What creature was it that he was looking for? And why, exactly? All he knew was that instinct had told him what to do. He had seen her in his dreams, she looked so similar to him, but he knew she was much different. Taro paused, sat on a fallen tree, and thought back to her in his mind. Tall and dark she was, and the most beautiful creature he had ever seen. But was this who he was really going to find? Was this just an idealistic version of what he wanted? The handsome Tree-Child closed his eyes, recalling, into farther detail, of his first dream of the she-creature.
It was nighttime, and of course, he could see easily in the area, sheltered beneath the great leaves of the trees of a strange forest made completely of trees very much like his mother. He was hidden, perched high in the branches, watching down on a moving creature below. It was her, he was sure, almost illuminated in his eyes. She looked strangely calm, and seemed to be searching for something, for every once in a while, would peer out into the reaches of the shadows. Tilting his head in an animal-like way, he didn't think that the girl belonged in a place like this - far away from where she would normally reside, he decided. But she was magic to him, for all he'd ever seen were animals and plants, and the sky, and himself.
Taro wondered, again, if she was real, and if he would ever get to see her with his awakened eyes.

After a while an older woman came over to Gigi's table. "Anything to eat, miss?" Gigi smiled, "Oh... a crasont would be lovely and some jam. Do you have jam?" The old woman chukled a bit, "Of course we have jam child! We have grape and strawberry and blackberry and marmalade and apricot..." "I'd love some strawberry jam. And hot chocolate too! With whipped cream- of coarse," she giggled as she added to her order. "Will that be all, Miss?" The woman asked kindly. "Oh, that'll be plenty. Thank you very much." The little woman scooted away and Gigi continued to gaze out into the city.
The trees swayed in the breeze around the bussiness tucked in this corner of the town. It was quaint here and Gigi was not at all surpised that the town had such at rich past. But that breeze stirred something within her and she knew that change was coming. And she would be a part of it. A bird glided overhead and for some reason she smiled wide, her teeth gleaming in the sun. Her heart fluttered and she knew things would be looking up.
Her breakfast was served and Gigi sat at the little table munching away.
Zaza was walking along an express way. She'd been traveling along roads like these for almost three years on her own. She remember the first time she'd walked one with Thomas. She had held dearly onto his hand, afraid that one of the moving metal boxes would veer off the road and into her. Now she was used to these things called cars. She had even ridden in one once. She didn't like it. Everyone in a while cars would slow to look at her curiously or a guy would honk is horn. A few more daring men ask if she needed a ride.
Beyond the expressway suberbia turned steadily into forest. Suddenly the wind blew violently in that direction. Zaza knew that was where she had to go. She wanted so badly to ride the wind, but Thomas had strictly instructed her never to use the wind around Mundies, so she climbed over the guide rail and into the forest.

Carissa made her way towards the caves. As afraid of them as she was, she knew that was the safest place to sleep, as even the animals were frightened of the area. As such, when she went on ventures, she left her camping supplies there, so her parents wouldn't get the idea that they could keep her home if they got rid of them. So, she left them were her parents would never think to go. It took her an hour to get to the caves, another twenty minutes to get to the supplies, ten to get everything into her camping supplies bag, and another twenty to leave.
"Jeeze!" She complained. "Why don't I ever do this ahead of time?" But she knew the answer- she was a procrastinater. So, with a dramatic sigh, she closed her eyes. The very second she did, her heart shuddered, shivered and...
"That direction." She murmered, her arm raising instinctivly where she knew she was being called, where it seemed, if she didn't go she'd die. So she took off, jumping over fallen trees. It wouldn't last long, this energy, but it would last long enough.

Hazel Wolfsbane
Still hidden amongst the vast expanse of leaves Hazel straightened, the tiredness leaving her face. That feeling again. A longing to find the one she waited for. Oh how this had been torture for her. For days, no weeks, the one she called had paused just outside Driftwood's forest and waited before moving on. Each time her spirits rose, overwhemling her. And each time despair filled her as he moved on.
A gasp escaped her. The boy, he had entered! Her call had been headed. Hazel stood up, the branch bending under her weight and she took ahold of the limbs above her. Careful, so as not to harm her mother tree, she climbed till her head rose above the uppermost leaves. A wonderous sight played out before her. Colored trees danced below in the breeze. A hawk, catching sight of a field mouse hiding amongst the brush, gracefully dived. It was an arists dream, the kind people traveled far and wide to find, just so they could gaze at the beauty.
Lawrence Carrol
Lawrence sighed and broke his gaze away from the dancing flames. How mesmorizing they could be at times. He could sit there for hours just watching but there was work to be done. Having not set foot back in Driftwood since his abrut departer, he instead took what he needed from the forest itself and in return the forest recieved his protection. Often the young ones from the town would sneak into the woods to party. Did they not respect it anymore? And each time Lawrence chased them off.
Something told him to leave his cottage and head into the woods he so cherished. But what could it be? Not once had there been any hint of what this feeling meant. Was the forest trying to communicate with him? Lawrence grabbed a worn coat, its edges shredded by thorns, and a scarf. For the rest of the world this would have been to warm an outfit but the chill had returned with a vengence.

Serina stepped through the cool forest, the boughs of the great trees shading her from the sun. She brushed one of the trunks and it froze where she touched it. Walking on, Serina spotted an opening to the vast tree trunks and quickened her pace.
Her dream crept from the edge of her mind and stood out infront. He was here. That face, although it was still fuzzy and unclear, stood out vibrantly as she moved ever deeper. Stepping out from the haze of tree trunks and found herself behind a quiant cottage.
Smiling at its cuteness, she walked around it, ruffling her frozen wings and faced the door. She cocked her head and blinked. Somehow her dream was vibrating inside her head and she took a step back, and then another, and then one forwards.

Lawrence Carrol
Lawrence shivered. The longer he stood infront of the old oaken door the colder he became. Wrapping his scarf tighter to stave of the biting chill, he grabbed a staff carved from branches of an ancient willow. "What is with this weather? He asked himself.
That feeling from before surged with power. It was like whatever was calling him was right there, but what was it? On its own accord his hand opened the creaking door. Lawrence found himself amazed by what he saw. A girl, her hair as white as the fresh fallen snow, stood there just outside. His eyes were drawn to the wings sprouting from her back. Just from looking at her he was reminded of an old picture of a frozen landscape from the far north. But what was she doing her? And what was she? He tried to speak but could not find any words to say.
