And so all that is, was, and all that isn't, was not.
It seems that no-one can remember quite how the Journal came into their possession, just that one day they didn't have it, and the next, they did. However, nobody can forget that next day, when all that they thought they knew came crashing down, leaving them with only the guidance of the Journal to turn to. Of course, most of them didn't notice the change immediately. Perhaps they didn't check their account balance to find that their funds had increased exponentially. Or maybe they didn't notice that their luck had changed when the bus had only almost hit them, instead of leaving them a splatter on the street. Maybe the truly unobservant didn't notice any of these minor occurrences, but none of them could overlook the event that occurred the day after.
The sky seemed to explode into a million shining pieces which rained down upon the Earth, each striking a different holder of the Journal and instantly transporting to a strange city, where the sun never seemed to quite emerge from behind distant mountains, leaving the world in shades of gray.
Slowly, each holder began to realize that all the people crowded around them held a journal similar to their own. However, before the group could begin to speak to one another, a sparkling light appeared on the outskirts of town, calling to each persons heart, and burning its location into their memories.
