The skies over head weren't the friendliest looking as the waves thrashed at the shoreline. Warm winds blew over the seas and into the face of a young dreamer, hair ruffling in the wind she relished on the thought of leaving home. Soapy white foam bathed her sea blue hooves and clung to her tufted ankles making it look like she were wearing pearls. The young mare's pale colored eyes watched the endless horizon as the black clouds swirled from their depths. What was out there? Could there be actual life out there? White and cyan colored tail flicking behind her, the mare stepped into the churning shallows until she was ankle deep.

"I will find out." She promised, a promise she had made long before now. "I will explore what there is to see, to find."

The waves were getting rough now, some just about reaching her underbelly even though she hadn't moved since. Ears flicking themselves back some, a salty gust of wind blew wet in her face. Shaking her misted head a little, Oceana turned her gaze skywards. The clouds had reached shore, great snakes of light slithered their way across followed by the roar of whatever chased them. Rearing up a little, she backed out of the surf and back onto the sandy shore, that wasn't quite as sandy as it had been that morning.

"I'm still going!" She shouted over the roar of the waves and crash of the thunder. "Whether you want me too or not!" She didn't much care if anyone else heard her, she had been waiting to leave for a long time and now, even the weather didn't want her to. Stomping a hoof and hardening her facial features, she started marching towards the thrashing surf.

Crimson feathers glittered amongst her ebony coat. She stood, hock deep in the clear blue tides, but something had caught her attention, a voice. "I'm Still going!" Called out in the distance of the endless blue. "Hmn" She hummed outloud "Who could that be?" Spreading her wings she managed to hover high enough to see what was calling, only a shimmer of light reflecting off the mare's scales made her noticeable, otherwise her assortment of blue and white coloration made her invisible to the naked eye. Justice couldn't last long enough to fly out to the ocean to help, her wings could barely keep her aloft now.

"HEY!" she yelled, as she slowly returned to the ground below. " Follow my voice!" Justice kept screaming out to the mare "Keep going!" She frantically paced along the shallows keeping her eyes fixated on the swimming mare, although she felt in her hear the mare would not make it to her small sand bed which to the approaching mare would be hidden underneath the waves. "Keep going! You're almost here, it's shallow here swim towards me!".

"Oceeaaaannnnaaaa!" Nesaea called for the umpteenth time, her voice cracking on the last syllable as she came down to all fours again. Goodness. Had she really been shouting so hard?

Giving up her previous strategy of standing in the shade of the trees and yelling at the storm, she stepped towards the shore and scanned the beach, searching for the giveaway flash of white that would be her sister - not that this colour trait would be easy to spot in the storm. Oceana may be the palest of the three siblings, but she, too, blended in perfectly with the sea.

Where is she? The adolescent wondered, charging along the shore. Stupid, stupid me - should have gone out when the sky was so dark - she always daydreams - probably stayed out in the water too long - probably dead on the rocks by now -

It was then that she spotted Oceana, already halfway out to sea; but she wasn't swimming yet. Thank the stars, she was in time!

"Halt!" she cried, galloping up to her sister.

"What are you doing?! The sea is far too rough for a swim. If it doesn't hurl you on the rocks, you'll be so tired battling the waves, you won't have any strength left to come back..."

Nesaea trailed off, finally getting why her sister had been so aloof lately.

"Did you intend... to come back?"

She stopped just as she heard her sister shouting to her over the roars of the waves. She was already belly the rough waters just about reaching her chin as she looked back. Eyes widening a little bit, Oceana struggled to turn back around, once or twice she had slipped on something hidden by the surf and plunged under. The undercurrents dragging her backwards before she managed to get her footing again to pull herself back to shore. Looking at her sister panting a little, coughing a bit as water had gotten into her nose. Shaking the salty water from her coat and scales, Oceana watched her sister for a moment before looking away sighing.

"I don't know if I will come back, there's nothing really here for me." She started turning to look out at the rough seas. "There's more out there then mother's letting on and I want to SEE it. To experience something that no one else has." Oceana gave Nesaea a side long glance. "You know how mother feels about me, she's never really cared too much about my well being. I figured if I were gone then maybe she would realize that I was worth something."

Shaking her head a little, Oceana's head lowered some the thoughts of her mother. The mare hadn't much liked her from the get-go, all just because she wanted to see more of their world then stay in one place. Frowning upon her past, the one where she lived in the shadow of her beloved sister, she didn't hate her sister, it was quite the opposite. Rising her head a little she looked to Nesaea.

"Come with me." Was all hat came from barely parted lips, her eyes almost pleading that she come along to make the adventure together would be fun. At leas Oceana thought so.

Nesaea, too, went towards her sister as Oceana struggled towards her. Despite her worry about O's well-being and the horrible weather about them, she couldn't help but find those stumbles endearing. Was clumsy, always clumsy.

She nearly interrupted Oceana's reasoning about their mother, but bit her lip and kept her silence. Actually, she probably won't notice you're gone at all... But that wouldn't benefit anyone, would it?

The dark mare nearly said yes. Choppy and rough it was, but the sea called to her, promised open spaces to watch the stars, away from her mother's stifling presence. Her sister didn't realise it, but being the favoured child wasn't all peachy keen either - more often than not Nesaea found herself wanting her own space, to exist without having every action praised, every accomplishment congratulated, every feature of hers complimented.

Yet it was this very behaviour which made her unable to leave. There was this odd sense of obligation she felt towards Mother that told her it would be wrong to leave without a word.

"I... cannot. You owe mother nothing, and can come and go as you please... I must at least bid her a proper goodbye." She stretched her nose forward to lightly touch her sister's, then drew back with a painful smile. They'd always been playmates and companions, and Oceana had gone along with every plot she proposed... and now that it was her turn to follow, she was failing to deliver.

"Look! The weather approves of my decision," she observed, for the rain had lightened and the water looked less threatening.

"How about this: Go now, and explore the sea as you've always wanted... and come back for me when the moon has hidden her face again."

Oceana stepped forwards to nuzzle against her beloved sister, one she had always felt so close to and now she was leaving her behind. It wasn't that she really wanted to leave her sister there with their mother, but what could she have done? She didn't rightly know, turning to glance out towards the now calming waves it did seem that the large storm was letting her proceed with what she was planning to do other wise.

"I will come back, for you my sister and only you. When the moon hides her face from the world, I will come back. No matter how far away I am." She promised and would work to keep it. "If I don't make it back, don't think I broke this promise, I will send someone to bring you to me." She wasn't sure whom she would send, perhaps someone she meets along the way... Ot something like that. "Farewell Sister."

Giving Nesaea one final glance, Oceana bound into the water and took to the currents. She didn't let herself look back it would have made things only worse. She was striking out on her own and it was going to be fun! The further away she swam, limbs pulling and pushing as hard as they could, her thoughts still remained on her sister, probably watching her vanish into the waves to be lost for a while.

I will go back! She told herself, At least for Nesaea's sake. Frowning to herself the further she went the rougher the waters got once more, it seemed that the storm wasn't over yet. Rains and salt water pelted at her face, great waves plunged her deeper and deeper if she weren't careful. By this time she was far from the homelands, far from her beach and farther still from her sister. Cresting the surface after another wave, Oceana coughed and tiered a little trying to get her wits. Where was she now? She couldn't see land anywhere, but something caught her attention.

Was that someone else out here? Walking on the surface of the seas? Head tilting, she plunged onwards, but the under currents were making it harder and harder for her to move very fast. Another wave drove her beneath the surface, coming back she glared at the skies, "I'm still going!" She shouted at them already past the point of no return.

Apparently the strange figure had heard her and was taking to the skies? Baffle and quite confused, perhaps it was the wariness setting in from the hard swim. Ears perching forwards she heard someone shouting, or was it just her imagination... Follow my voice it seemed to say, yes, follow it, she trudged on, muscles aching, fighting the undercurrents. It's shallow here Shallow? This far out? Eye lids slipping themselves closed, more to the salty water that made them sting, but she was also exhausted. Almost giving up, her hooves dug into something more solid then water, this woke Oceana up.

It was shallow here! The stranger had been right, though there was still perhaps a bit of water to stand in, in places, but it was indeed more shallow. Dragging her soaked body from the water she shook herself just a bit before collapsing to whatever it was beneath her hooves. At least here she wasn't in any danger of drowning, right.

"Thanks, stranger." She lifted her head up towards the dark colored mare whom had lead her to the island by the sounds of her voice. "I seem to have traveled farther then I first thought." Lids slipping over pale colored eyes, she sighed again letting her legs take a rest, they surely needed it.

Justice honestly half expected the new mare to drown. No one else could have swum this far, not even Justice who had flown as far as her wings could carry her.

"Are you alright?" She lowered her head to nudge the mare gently with her muzzle, sneezing as the salty scent irritated her nose. "My name is Justice, Can you hear me? Are you alright?" She continued to stand by the mare, unsure of what help she could be.

The mare was obviously tired from her marathon-like swim, so justice stood beside her. Waiting for the mare to catch breath.

Oceana's eyes fluttered open as she still gasped to catch her breath. How far had she swam? She didn't really remember, she only remembered biding her sister good-bye and promising that she would return for her when the moon hide from sight. Tacking count of herself, Oceana concluded mentally that she was all still in one piece physically, but mentally, that might have been another thing. Raising her head from where it had laid, Oceana looked back to the dark colored mare that was standing over her.

"Oceana, my name's Oceana and I think I'm alright. I'm still in one piece." She half joked not trying to stand just yet. "How... How far from land am I, really?" she asked having not been able to see land for some time after taking the initial plunge. "See, I'm going to explore the surrounding islands to show my mother that not all of them are barren wastelands..." And to have something else to show her sister when she went back for her. But she kept this thought to herself.

"A fair way out" she smiled. "You know it's dangerous out here in the deep, there's sea dragons as big as aerithes' temple! Strange trees that float among clouds, it's always best to avoid such oddities. Who knows what hunts us in this era?"

Justice looked out into the distance "Its a very long way to the outer lands. You sure you can cope with it? I'm sure it is more than triple the distance you just swam, even my wings wouldn't help me..."

Oceana looked away from the older mare that stood beside her, she wanted to get up, but her limbs wouldn't let her. She had known a little of the creatures that lived within the deeper parts of the sea, but had ignored what warning there had been other wise. Huffing to herself, Oceana closed her eyes to block out the spray that struck her in the face, rude awakenings indeed, but she wasn't going back.

"I knew a little of what could be there, but I don't care." She said bluntly laying her head back on what ground there was. "There's nothing to go back to. So I go forwards, I swim to the closest island there is, no matter how far and explore it. It's what I've wanted to do since I hatched." Since mother first realized I wasn't like her. She thought silently, dwelling a bit on her past, Bah it was a trifling thing. "Might I ask, why you are out here?"

Turning the questions away from herself, Oceana wanted to know more about this mare. Why she was so far from home and why did she try to even help her in the first place. Her mind wavered a little, she really wanted to get some sleep, it was bad enough that she couldn't even keep her eyes open in the first place. Just laying there, eyes closed and ears opened, Oceana listened, more to the mare then the churning seas that surrounded them.

Justice's eyes opened wider, mostly out of surprise the mare wanted to know about her. She had never been asked such things before. "uh.." she let out a little groan unsure what she can say. "I came out here because it's a nice change, It's too shallow for the sea creatures here, well I haven't seen anything dangerous except the sea itself.. so, its relaxing here."

She looked out to the see, believing she could see a faint figure surface then return to the depths. She smiled, such wonders her 'mother' had made for this world, and such dangers...

"Aerithe" she cooed, "Isn't it beautiful?" Her heart so filled with awe she forgot the mares presence for a split second. "Oh I'm sorry, I'm Justice."
PostPosted: Wed Oct 07, 2009 6:22 pm

An ear flicked at the sound of something slipping smoothly through the waves in the distance, it wasn't that loud, but still. She could hear it, or perhaps it was just the water in her ears that she was hearing. The ear closest to the mare listened intently as she spoke of coming out here because it was calming. It was, besides the storm that she had swam through, that wasn't so calming. It had been back breaking, or basically everything breaking work. Oceana was surprised that she had made it this far, with a long way to go yet.

"It is calming here, but the storms I had come through wasn't so nice." Oceana groaned softly before the other mentioned something about Aerithe. "Aerithe? I can't really say, I haven't really seen the 'whole' of it. That's why I'm out here. So I can get to see everything."

Turning her head up towards the darker mare, Oceana dragged herself back to her hooves, unable to lay down anymore. She looked out over the waters that churned and swashed about their hooves. She glanced back towards the black winged mare, noting the dark colors of red and some white. Tilting her head a little, she had seen many birds with wings, but never really paid much attention to see if her kind could have them too.

"Justice huh? That's a nice name. My mother said that Oceana was honoring my grandmother... Who ever she was." Peering down at her own hooves, she tried to think, but she couldn't bring anything into true focus. "Have you been to any of the islands around here? Mother told me a long time ago that they were all barren. Just rocks and sand..." She wanted to prove that assumption wrong.

"The islands?" She looked to the mare with a puzzled expression. "I know of them, I have seen some kirin say they swam from them, but I have never been there myself.. Why wings, probably couldn't last the distance." A small smile of sorts appeared on her face "perhaps... perhaps you could ask a sea dragon to cart you across, it would be a few strides to reach the islands to them." Justice was laughing, hoping the mare would notice her sarcasm.

She looked back out across the ocean. "To think.. one goddess gave birth to all this."

Oceana looked to the mare puzzled, this was all too much for her to really, want to think about. After the long swim from home, she just wanted to sleep, to dream of other things that she might see. But that seemed like an impossibility as this one seemed to always be talking. Looking out over the water, her ears falling back some, she somewhat ignored the other for a time. At one point, her head drooped and almost fell asleep standing at the water's edge, the calming sounds of the waves lulling her already exhausted spirit and body towards dreamland.

"A sea dragon?" she muttered to herself as she swayed a little before laying herself down again, too tired to stand any longer. Don't think I would want to meet a sea dragon Oceana thought to herself as she laid there, eyes closed. They don't sound like they would be very pleasant to talk to, let along ride... But maybe, it I ever met one, perhaps... She trailed off in though as she sagged even more, sleep looking pretty good right about now, even with the water lapping around her.
