It had been a while since he'd brought Chache into the pride and got her accepted and settled into the Shepard position. She seemed to be doing rather well, which made Caide swell with pride. Though he was going more and more on patrol and she had a few cublets of her own to look after, they got rare moments together. And when they did, Caide enjoyed the talks they had, enjoyed the occasional cuddles and affection. Of course he liked the attention from her. She was his friend and.... well, his crush. Yes, he still considered her a crush even though she made it obvious that she liked him like he liked her. Still, he didn't want to rush things between them.
Tail thumping as he headed towards her usual spot, Caide's heart raced a bit as he thought things over. He could take her as a mate now. His only one, and they could start a family together. But she had enough cubs to look after. I think she looks over some of my cousins... he thought to himself, head tilting to the side. He wouldn't doubt it. Aunt Muscail had eight new additions to the family. Which... made his family expand even more. Not that they needed more family. The orange eyed male was just glad that Muscail didn't share their den anymore! It was already cramped with him and all his growing siblings.
Giving himself a mental, and physical shake, Caide slowed when he neared, peeking around a corner to see what his Chache was up to today.

Chache giggled gleefully, pawing at one of the cubs she was currently caring for as it raced around her paws, trying to evade her grasp. Pivoting around in a circle, she gave strange sounds that were a mixture of hapiness an irritation, the female trying to sound irritated but failing - heck, she was having as much fun as the cub. She'd been told she wouldn't be allowed any more than three cubs to look after for the time being, due to her disability. She'd been upset at first - she was just as good, if not better due to her increased observance. But she kinda understood - cubs were precious, and she was fairly new. Fair enough they were wary.
Finally catching the cub, plucking him from the ground by the scruff of his neck and placing him down between his two sleeping sisters, she stared at him, petting him on the head gently as he yawned, drifting off to sleep himself. Sitting herself down, she watched the trio for a while, smiling to herself. They were really cute...she'd known since she was little that she wanted cubs one day - a big family, like hers. And she really liked Caide. But she'd been getting mixed feelings - sure, he cuddled her occasionally and returned her affectionate gestures. But at the same time he seemed to be holding back, and she didn't know why. Pouting slightly, she layed herself down, beginning to sun herself whilst waiting for the cubs to wake again from their midday nap.

Caide couldn't help but laugh and smile as he watched Chache try his nephew to sleep. It was so cute, the way she played with him and then seemed to chide him into actually sleeping. When she had that look on her face, Caide's heart sank a bit. Why did she look upset? Wishing he was a mind reader, the male stepped out and laid next to Chache, licking her ear. It was his way of greeting, besides a headbutt. And, well, with some of the little ones still awake, he didn't want to headbutt their sitter in front of them. Still, she should know it was him by the way he nipped the tip of it when he got there and then nuzzled into her neck, purring happily.
He was glad she was settling down into their pride quickly and happily. Moving his face in front of her, he pushed their noses together before speaking. "What's wrong?" He didn't actually speak, since the cubs were sleeping, but he mouthed the words slowly for her. It was a little weird how well adjusted he was to her already; able to communicate with her with his own kind of language and decipher her own. "You looked so upset just now..."

She was mildly surprised when she felt a familiar nibble on her ear, but she recognized the gesture straight away and her maw broke into a smile as she rolled over to face Caide, purring quietly as she licked his cheek in greeting. Most might be spooked by someone essentially 'creeping up on them' - and Chache had been, when she was younger. But when you were deaf you tended to get used to it. The same way you recognized touches by their pressure or feel, and hence could decipher who gave which touch.
Chache didn't know whether he was speaking of mouthing, but she assumed he was just mouthing the words to prevent from waking the little ones. She glanced over to them, to make sure they were alright, before frowning at his question. What was wrong? She'd looked so...oh. He'd been watching her. She blushed slightly, embarrassed that she'd been caught, and was quick to shake her head to signal that nothing was wrong. What was she supposed to say? 'You're not cuddling me enough?'. How lame and needy did that sound? To draw the conversation away from herself she butted her head gently against his, her usual action for asking how he was, and how his day had been.

That answer didn't satisfy him at all. He wrinkled his nose, but then shrugged to her question. His day was dull, like most of his patrols, considering the fact he hadn't really run into anyone since Chache. It made him a little sad, yes, but he did like that he didn't have to fight threaten someone away or stalk them to see what they were doing. Kind of relieving in a way. He licked at her nose again and then pressed a kiss to it before curling against her again, nuzzling under her neck, nibbling at her chin.
"Ok, I guess. I mean, nothing exciting happened. Got off early because one of the younger Ghosts decided I needed a break." He glanced to the cubs, glad to see they were still sleeping and then back to Chache. Every time he looked at her face, he found some new wrinkle, some new way of her communicating. This time, he studied her face and found she was keeping something from him. But she was still upset, it seemed. Was it because..... when she joined he didn't... return those gestures? He thought he was doing a good job of that, now.

His shrug let her knew enough, but he went into detail and she listened with a small smile, nodding to show she understood. She purred at his gestures, pleasantly surprised as she used her tail to playfully whack him, squeaking quietly at his nibbling, responding with fond gestures of her own - nuzzles and nibbles, ending with her curled up around him, head resting comfortably on his shoulder, her whole body shaking with a purr.
She opened her eyes to smile up at him sweetly. She did like him. Love him, even. He was such a dork, but that just made him cuter. ...Maybe she should be grateful, for what she had, rather than wishing for more. Yeah...maybe that was the way to go about it.

With a grin, Caide whacked her back with his own tail, aiming to her her square on the rump. Sticking his tongue out and crossing his eyes, he got up to roll her over onto her back so he could tickle her tummy. Yes, Caide was a big, huge dork, but he knew how to play and he knew when enough was enough. Like this worrying; he didn't want to do it anymore. So, he'd put it off until he should actually worry. As he tickled the female's tummy, he nuzzled her throat, feeling the purr rumble under his cheek before he nipped there a few times.
That was a very intimate gesture for the male, nipping a female's throat. In a way, it was a sign of submission and dominance. If Chache didn't strike back, she would be considered submissive to Caide. At least to him. He had his own way of thinking and working things out in his head. Especially if it had to deal with romance. That is, assuming, that's what this was. An awkward display of affection between a dork of a male, and a sweet, innocent female.
Pulling back after the n**, he waited, gauging her reaction, trying to see if she understood his way of thinking or not.

He jumped slightly when he hit back with his tail, only just avoiding squealing quite loudly. She didn't want to wake the cubs - especially not when she and Caide were snuggled up like this. Ohh, the Ancients would be so angry with her if they found her like this, when she was supposed to be caring for the cubs...maybe they should stop, or at least stop acting so...she couldn't think of the word. Playfully? It wasn't quite that - intimately was the other word, but it wasn't quite that either, just in between the two.
Lost in thought, Chache was caught out when she was suddenly rolled onto her back, eyes wide as she gave a small mew of surprise, before squeaking and squealing as quietly as she could manage, whilst trying to stop the male tickling her - she was really ticklish! This was like, assault! Her whole body shuddered with laughter and loud, fond purring, though as he stopped she remembered to quieten herself down, for the cubs sake. The nuzzle of her throat brought her purr back just as loudly, though, the purr only growing louder at the nips. This was...this was more like what she wanted. It was well known that the soft, vulnerable skin under your chin was one of the more intimate parts to be touched, just because of how vulnerable it was.
She wiggled about excitedly, peeking upwards to Caide with a bright, beaming smile as she purred, seeming perfectly fine being on her back with Caide above her in the more dominant position. She had a feeling she was beginning to get what Caide was about...he was like her, and had his own ways of thinking of things. They were just slightly different - but now seemed to have struck a chord that both agreed with.

Just how ticklish she was didn't slip by Caide. He took that into account and would use that in the future. But she seemed to understand his way of thinking. He laid down on her, nuzzling against her throat again, twining their tails together. This seemed to be what she wanted. The annoyance he'd picked up from her before seemed to have disappeared; which is what he wanted. So they've met in the middle and came up with a solution without Caide realizing the whole problem.
Humming a bit, he moved to lick at her muzzle, his front paws on either side of her head before looking down at her. Caide's orange eyes had a bit of a happy glimmer to them. However, he sensed that they needed to stop being so.... close, because he knew the elders didn't really like their Shepherds to be so distracted away from their wards. So, he got up, but gave her a little nibble to her maw. "Nearly done here?" He mouthed, tail flicking back and forth. He wanted to spend more time with her like this.
Really, he wanted to discuss something with her. Something one of his brothers brought to his attention. But, she'd have to wait and see what it was until she was done with her duties.

Snuggling up to Caide, Chache purred, enjoying this now. Happily twining her tail with Caide's, she seemed perfectly happy to keep her head where it was, to give Caide decent room with which to nuzzle her throat. He moved, pushing himself up and licking her muzzle, and she gave a sweet mew as she loked up into his eyes, her own minty-green ones sparkling with happiness. This was nice - she really liked this. She was happy like this, with Caide. He got up, and she reluctantly stood up after him, knowing they should stop before they were caught. Stupid job.
But even as he spoke, she glanced around, spotting an approaching shape on the horizon, pointing to it with a grin. It was another of the Shepherds, coming to take over for her since she'd been working the majority of the day already. Not that she minded - she enjoyed playing with the children. Looking back to him she grinned brightly - hopefully they could continue where they left off.

When he saw the figure, Caide scrambled to put a little distance between them. He really didn't want Chache to get in trouble since she was new. But, the grin didn't leave his face. When the figure spoke to Chache, he rolled his eyes and smirked. Like Chache could hear her. Shaking his head a bit more, Caide tapped her on the shoulder and motioned her to follow with his head.
He slunk off the direction he'd come from, the direction of his home as well. Before he came to her, he had to stop by the den to let his mom know he was alright. But now, he turned, waiting for Chache to catch p with him. "So.... I got to talk to you 'bout something."

Chache met the figure with a wide smile, nodding as they spoke, grateful for slow words, and hence easy lip-reading. She bid farewell before following Caide as he tapped her shoulder, grinning as she merrily trotted after him, her bum wiggling playfully in the air as she bounced about and around Caide, clearly wanting to carry on from where they'd left it. His words confused her, though, the deaf lionness frowning a little as she paused, cocking her head to the left in a clear sign - she was asking what about?

Yep, he'd confused her. Way to go. Sighing mentally to himself, Caide stepped a bit closer and nuzzled her cheek a little before pulling away and sitting down, motioning her to do the same with a paw. "Well... Since.. my family's growing more and more. One of my brothers said it was time I got my own den. ...And since... ....Well, you're sleeping with... a few others, too.." He trailed off, not really knowing how to continue on with what he was saying.
He looked to the side, clearly embarrassed by what he was offering her. Him and her sharing a den, just as friends! Or that's what he thought, anyway. It was obvious to anyone who looked at them that the two were way more than friends. Not lovers, but not friends. Somewhere in between; and in an awkward sort of way. Well, awkward for Caide.

He nuzzled her cheek, but that wasn't an answer. She nuzzled him back gently, but it was a quick one as she continued to watch him, forehead creasing in a frown, the female wanting to know what was wrong. She sat down when he motioned to, smiling a little to try reassure him, although her face because serious as she concnetrated on what he was saying. It took her a few moments, but she eventually got there, mouth forming a small 'o' shape in realization.
Share a den? Oh, that'd be so call! They could cuddle up more, and she could cuddle up to Caide every night to go to sleep! The excitement was clear in her face as she hopped up, grinning widely as she tackled Caide, purring loudly.
I'd take it as a yes.

Wen he was tackled, Caide flopped over, not expecting that reaction in the least bit. But he was glad she was happy about what he was implying. It made him grin and laugh, getting up and chewing on her cheek fur before nosing against her forehead, purring. Yes, this could work very well for the both of them. But they had to get a den close to the border and close to her job so both could be there on time.
That could get complicated. "Of course... we won't be doing.... anything today. We'd have to go check out some of the empty dens. Pick one right for just us!" Kids were the last thing on Caide's mind, apparently.
