Yvath was curled around Gyl's neck in place of the scarf he always wore, the nervous Green coiled almost tightly enough to choke him. With a soft pat to her head, Gylren got her to relax a little, but she was still rather tightly wound. The Candidate was making himself comfortable in the kitchens, nibbling on a meatroll that had been given to him by one of the more kindly of the kitchen staff. It was peaceful in here, the time ensuring that it was merely a lazy flow through the kitchens rather than the pulsing flood that typically coursed through. Gyl slipped Yvath a bit of the meatroll with a small smile, chuckling as she wolfed it down with a soft trill. From this little corner, Gyl could see pretty much everything that was going on, and it was really quite a nice view. Almost idyllic, really, and Gyl appreciated it.

Kyllae was having a fabulous day. There were eggs on the sands, she was making new friends, she had finished her attempt to clean, and now she was on her way down to the kitchen for a bit of a snack before she went to lessons. Truly fabulous. She sashayed into the kitchen, to a song she was listening to in her head, and after asking around for a moment, was able to obtain a nice cut of buttered bread from one of the kitchen staff. Really, what was wrong with the Weyr's under population? It meant that everyone got more food, and more room. Of course, her opinion could very well change if and when thread presented itself, but for now...Kyllae was glad that this place wasn't crammed full of people.
She was about to take a seat by herself, when she realized her mistake. Why should she eat alone? There were plenty of other people here with whom she could dine, or at least snack with, and hopefully talk to. Things were always more fun with company, really. It didn't take long for her to decide who she wanted to sit with. Why, the lad with the firelizard of course. The sheer number of firelizards here astounded Kyllae, but really, it was nothing to complain about. Hopefully it just meant that she would be able to get her own, sooner or later. Because while not quite as awesome as a dragon, a flit was something fantastic for sure.
"'Lo there," she called to Gylren with a smile, and a wave, just to make sure she was noticed. She sidled over to him, confidently, eagerly. "I couldn't help but notice your fabulous little green, she makes quite the fashion accessory," Kyllae commented with a chuckle, refering to the way Yvath was coiled around her human's neck. "I'm Kyllae," she offered, though didn't offer a hand to shake, seeing as he seemed preoccupied with his little green, and with eating. "You'll have to pardon my forwardness, I'm relatively new here, and just trying to get to know everybody," she assured, nibbling on her bread.
"May I ask to know her name...and yours?" she added, politely. "Would I be correct in assuming you're a fellow candidate?"

Finishing off his meatroll, Gyl was surprised to see a girl come over and sit next to him, and more so when she started talking to him. I mean, yeah, that kind of happened, but Shards, she was gorgeous! Not having a whole bunch of experience with girls was something that Gyl was mentally kicking himself for now, and Yvath gave him a chastising lick on the chin for doing so. Figured that the firelizard would bring him back to the present, hm?
Gyl smiled warmly when Kyllae mentioned Yvath. The little Green tucked her head under a wing with a nervous trill, and Gylren shrugged with a small grin. He blinked, a little taken aback. He hadn't thought about actually talking to somebody...and he didn't want to embarrass himself with his voice, especially not in front of such a pretty girl. Gyl looked around for something he could use to get his meaning across, catching sight of materials that would work after a quick scan of the kitchen. He grabbed a small wad of paper that had apparently been an attempt at writing down a recipe and snagged a small stick of cooled charcoal from a nearby fire and started to write on the back of it. After a bit of scrawling, a somewhat muddled, but still relatively legible note was finished, and Gyl took a look at what he had written. The end message was nudged across the semi-cluttered table to Kyllae, and Gyl hoped that his somewhat-messy writing was at least partially legible, especially in this cirumstance.
'I'm Gylren, just call me Gyl. This little Green is Yvath. Yep.'

Ooh, NOW Kyllae was intriguied. Why wasn't he talking? She leaned in a little closer, as if it suddenly might all become clear to her upon closer examination. This lack of verbal communication...why, it made him mysterious! And Kyllae was well aware that she was a sucker for mysterious types. More interested now than ever, she crossed her legs and tilted her head just so; as if the fact that she was a girl wasn't obvious enough already.
She took the pad of paper readily enough, and took it in at a glance. "Gylren, that's a nice name. Pardon me if I'm pronouncing it wrong, it's Gylren, like gills on a fish, correct? And your Yvath is awfully gorgeous. She must be the lady of your heart." Kyllae waved to Yvath and offered the shy little flit a smile as well, the poor little thing seemed terrified of company. "If it's not too much trouble, can I ask where she came from?"
Reappraising him, she took note of his hair color, dark and pleasing, and his build, which was to her liking. Kyllae wasn't terribly fond of those big old muscular men who looked like they'd been wrestling Whers all day. But what color were his eyes? His hair covered them quite well, and left her all the more curious. "I'm assuming you're excited for the hatching?" she questioned, and then chuckled a little at herself. "I'm not laughing at you, I promise, it's just...I think in my eagerness I asked a silly question. I've yet to meet a candidate who's not excited for the hatching. Those eggs are the reason I'm here in the first place, and not sunning myself down in Ista. On a similar note, where are you from?" she questioned, happily.

Gylren was glad he hadn't written all that big on the note now. With a small sile, he brushed some of the black hair out of his face, revealing the twinkling gray eyes underneath. Oh, oh dear, she was putting the charm on, Gyl noticed, and he was completely and utterly unsure if he could withstand it. He doubted somewhat that she even knew that she was turning it up like that, but if she did, then she probably noticed the delicate bluch that creeped across Gyl's face. He nodded in response to Kyllae's first few questions, a grin coming across his face as she mentioned the Hatching. He scribbled down some more onto the paper in response for her final question. The charcoal left some dark gray smudges along Gyl's fingers as he set it down, revealing exactly what he had written down. 'Born and raised here.'

Kyllae did notice a bit of blush appear on Gyl's face, which she also took in, now that he oh-so-kindly revealed his eyes. "Hey, you're pretty cute," she teased with a wink, and a chuckle. Part of her realized she should probably stop flirting. It wasn't really fair, but at the same time, it really seemed to open people up, and if it could help her make friends...what harm could a bit of innocent flirting do? Bolster self confidence, make someone's day, and make friends. Thats what. So she didn't feel too bad. Besides, this place seemed to be crawling with good looking boys. Then again, maybe it was just the foreign aspect that appealed to her. Back at Southern, at the tiny cothold, she was used to seeing the same familiar faces over and over. Here, everyone was new, and everything was exciting!
Oh, so he was a native? Good. Kyllae was trying to make friends with people who knew their way not only around the place in general, but could also inform her of some of the stories and slang that went with this place. For examply, what on Pern was Chaseth's flame? Kyllae had heard that a few times now, and had absolutely no idea what to think. "Well, Ghylren, I hope you impress. Wouldn't it be fun if we were wingmates?" She sighed dreamily, and a bit exaggerated, but that was for drama and entertainment more than anything else. "I know this clutch is going to be a good one. Dorath's curse beeing gone for the moment anyway...let's just hope we get lucky!" Dorath's curse, thankfully, was something she had learned.
"Gylren of High Reaches, it is a pleasure to correspond with you." She had almost said that it was a pleasure to speak with him, but changed it, seeing as he wasn't actually speaking. She wanted to ask why, but...if there was a personal reason, she didn't want to be a bother, or embarass him or whatnot. "I ask because I'm a little bit unfamilar with the North. Needless to say, it's quite different from Southern," she added, with a roll of her eyes. "But I like it here, the people are nice, even if it's a far cry from tropical." She informed. She was about to apologize for talking so much, and offer to let him say something, except, again, she couldn't phrase it like that. Oops. Hopefully she wasn't annoying him with her blathering, she was aware that she did like to talk, but in her opinion, it was just because she had a lot to say, and a lot of stories to share.
"If I'm annoying you with all this nonstop talking, just let me know. I wasn't exactly invited, but I figured it's always more fun to eat with company than alone." She tore off a piece of her bread and offered it to him. "Want some? I feel bad eating when you're not," she added with a shrug.

If anything, the blush on Gylren's face merely deepened as she told him he was cute. Shards, this girl was making him like clay in her hands! He smiled and nodded to her first few questions, listening patiently to what she was saying.
'Oh, sorry about the whole not talking thing. I kinda...can't.'
Gyl scribbled this down hurriedly as she uttered the word 'correspond', remembering that it was kind of rude not to at least give somebody fair warning about that.
'Yeah, it is pretty different. If you want, I could show you a few tricks that are useful for up here.'
Shards. He was running out of paper. That wasn't good--if he didn't manage to find some more, he'd have to resort to actually speaking, which Gyl quite honestly didn't want to do. He snapped back to earth when she offered him a piece of her bread, and, not wanting to offend, he took it with a nod of thanks, nibbling slightly on the end. Yvath poked her nose out from under her wing tentatively, slowly pulling her head out with a small inquisitive sound.

Pity wasn't something Kyllae liked to feel. Pity didn't help much, and personally, she hated to be pitied. People had no right to look down on her, why did they feel she needed their sniveling sympathy? So, it was hard for her to have any pity, for Gylren's lack of speech. But, she could offer him acceptance, and understanding. Speaking or not, he was a person, and she could recognize that and relate to it, and so it didn't bother her much. She wanted to tell him that it was okay, that it didn't matter to her that he couldn't talk, but she didn't want to brush upon the issue if it was tender, and what if he personally had a lot of trouble with it? No, she wouldn't mention that, but for a moment, albeit a brief one, her smile flickered into something more serious, that sparkle of laughter in her eye darkening into a dull glow of compassion.
"I would love that!" she said, perking right back up. "I still feel a little confused around here sometimes, it would be great if I could get someone to educate me on the ups and downs of it all." She watched the amusement the way Yvath seemed to shed a bit of her shyness in the presence of food. Cute thing had her priorities straight, it seemed. Kyllae noted that Gylren was running out of paper. Now, that was a problem. How was he supposed to respond to her non-stop chatter if he didn't have any paper? They would just have to get some.
"You're almost out of paper," she mentioned, and then jumped up as if electrified. "Here, let's go see if we can find you some more. I'm sure somebody will help us out!" she assured, and grabbed Gylren's wrist, pulling it gently to encourage him to follow her. "It'll be an adventure!"

Gylren was so not expecting to be lifted from his seat by the exuberant Kyllae on a quest for paper. Yvath definitely didn't, and he made a small cry of alarm and coiled tighter around Gyl's neck, digging her claws into his collar. He really had no choice in the matter, but he didn't mind--heck, this was probably going to be entertaining, let alone an adventure, so why not? He patted Yvalth soothingly with his free hand in an attempt to make the clearly startled Green calm down and was rewarded with a slight relaxation of those needle-like claws that were, thankfully, only hooked into his clothes.
Idly, Gyl wondered exactly where Kyllae would be taking him on their 'quest'.

If anything, Kyllae was enjoying the fact that Gylren couldn't talk. Not only did it make him mysterious and exciting, it made her want to coddle him. Not that he needed it, seeing as he seemed older than she, but...Kyllae liked to hoard her friends, and love them and take care of them, and shower them with attention, and Gylren's disability gave her all the more reason to.
To be honest, Kyllae's decision was very spurr of the moment, and she wasn't sure where they were going either. But hey, that was half the fun of it, venturing into the unknown, and all of that. She decided to ask the first person she saw, who, seeing as they were in the kitchen, was unsurprisingly a kitchen staff member. "Excuse me," Kyllae said, tapping the woman on the shoulder. The much shorter, stockier woman wheeled around to face Kyllae with wary eyes, taking in Gylren as well, and the way Kyllae's hand so carefully held his wrist. "My friend and I, we need some paper, and we were wondering, do you know where we could get some?" Kyllae asked, offering a smile for the woman's troubles.
Unfortunately, Kyllae's charms were not quite as effective on the ladies as they were on the men, barring those girls who had a thing for other girls, of whom Kyllae knew few. The woman grumbled something that Kyllae couldn't quite catch, so she tapped the woman on the shoulder again, never dropping her smile. "Please, it's important. My friend here can't talk, and it's urgent that we get some paper, so we can continue our correspondance," she assured, leaning down to be closer to eye level with the woman. Kyllae had the idea that this scene could possibly be comical. This strange kitchen woman, short, light skinned, with dark hair and big boned. And then there was Kyllae, tall, tan, with her dazzling bright hair. Oh dear, it probably looked like some kind of joke. Kyllae caught herself before she could laugh.
"Shouldn't you be doing your chores, Kyllae?" the woman questioned, eyeing her skeptically. Now, Kyllae didn't feel that was fair. How come everyone knew her here, and she didn't know them? Actually, there was a fairly reasonable explanation for that. It was that Kyllae was able to ruin everything, everything she tried to make involving food, and it was sharding near ridiculous. Well, two could play at that game.
"You're right," Kyllae began. "I could help you out right now, if you'd like. Just, tell me what you'd like me to prepare," and Kyllae's smile became downright mischievous. The woman looked at her again, sighed, and seemed to realize it wasn't a battle worth fighting. "Ask Clara, if you can find her. I think she carries some around with her."
"Thank you!" Kyllae responded, even as she tugged on Gylren to lead him along as she started walking again. "I don't know who Clara is, though," she admitted to Gylren, with a roll of her eyes and a little laugh. "I don't suppose you have any idea?" I'm not terribly familiar with any of the people here...it seems my inability to cook preceeds me though.

Taking a look at the scene before him, Gylren could almost have burst out laughing. It really was a comical setup with the two of them juxtaposed together like that, the stocky kitchen lady with the graceful Candidate. He watched the exchange with a barely smothered grin on his face, and even Yvath made a soft amused trill.
A thoughtful look passed across Gyl's face for a moment before he recalled exactly who this Clara was. He pointed to a Harper scribbling down notes at a table a ways off from where they currently were.

}~{Don't mean to be powerplaying or what not, having Kyllae drag Gylren around on all this stuff, but, I didn't figure there was much he could do/say that would make up a very substantial post during any of this. If you'd like him to do something while Kyllae is dragging him around, I could easily edit my post 3nodding }~{
Oh really, this Clara person was so easily found? That was almost a bit disappointing. Kyllae had been hoping for, well...more adventure in her adventure. This had been an escapade of only minor excitement. Oh well. Paper first. Then they could plan more adventure. "Off we go!" she declared, giving Gylren's wrist a little squeeze as she marched off to make this Clara her next victim.
Weaving her way through the throng of kitchenstaff was only minorly challenging, given her height, people had a hard time not noticing her, and were usually fairly willing to get out of her way. Keeping ahold of Gylren and making sure he stayed close, she made sure that she wouldn't be seperated from him. Really, she didn't want him to get washed away in all of this commotion.
"'Lo there!" she called as they cleared the majority of the kitchen hustle and bustle, and was rewarded when Clara looked up to blink once or twice. Kyllae sashayed over to the table, still keeping a hold of Gylren, as if he might disappear were she to let go of him. "I was wondering, my friend and I here, we're really in need of some paper, and if you could spare some, we'd really be grateful," she explained with a bob identifiable as a quick curtsy.
Clara looked over the two of them quickly, and Kyllae was unable to decide if Clara knew Gylren or not, but either way, she handed over two sheets of paper without much complaint, other than a remark about 'not wasting them'. Satisfied, Kyllae dragged Gylren a little ways off, to another table that wasn't, as of yet, occupied. "That wasn't quite the adventure I was looking for..." she complained, chewing her lip thoughtfully.
And then an idea struck her. "Do you want to go see a dragon! I know where we can find one for sure!"
