Thunder boomed over her head, and even as her heart raced with fear, Celandine couldn't remember feeling quite so alive before.
She'd seen storms before, but she'd never been in one. The rain lashed at her face and neck, chilled her to the bone, but it was... fun, somehow. Her bonded was scolding her, or trying to, over the thunderclaps, but she'd been ignoring him steadily for the past five minutes, and could do so for longer. He was worried, of course, but he was always worried. If it were up to Vrabel, she wouldn't enjoy anything!
To her right, noise exploded, and she leaned heavily left, wings fighting against the wet and the wind, legs kicking beneath her while she flew. It wouldn't be smart to stay out too long, and she would give into him in a moment. Just a moment or two.
"Celandine!" Smashing into her side, Vrabel clung to her scarf as best he could, voice furious over the sound of the storm. "What are you doing? Get to the ground!"
Feeling chastised, she shook her head, blinking furiously despite her lack of sight. The water ran down her face, fell into her mouth as she called back, "I will! Where?"
Leaning against her neck, he shouted, "Just get on the ground!"
Rolling her shoulders, thrilling in the sound of the next boom, Celandine extended her legs, shifting to a careful descent. The wind blew harshly, doing its best to knock her off course, but she ducked her head, keeping an ear cocked back at Vrabel in case he needed to give her further instructions.
She felt the grass first, then her hoofs hit the ground hard, sending her into a run at first contact. Her hooves pounded the ground, wings flapping tiredly at her sides as she turned in a circle. From her back, Vrabel took flight, presumably scanning for shelter.
The sound of branches rustling above her alerted her to the presence of a tree, which she was thankful for. She couldn't count how many times she'd rammed into one when Vrabel wasn't around to inform her in unfamiliar places.
Resting against the rough bark of a tree, she sighed happily, turning her face up to the sky. Over the sound of the storm, she could hear very little, so she hoped Vrabel came back soon with news for shelter.
