In order for team rocket to extend their influence and take over the world, they needed the help of pokemon. Most of the time, however, the pokemon did not want to help. Perhaps they had been stolen from another trainer, or had been captured against their will and still resisted. And, there was also the problem of the pokemon just being entirely too weak to fight, or even to nice.
The scientists of team rocket were sent to research ways of combating these problems, and after some time they came up with a solution.
This device is known as a dark ball. It works like a normal pokeball in that you can throw it at pokemon and catch them. However, once a pokemon has entered the dark ball they become dark pokemon. No. not the type, but actual evil pokemon.

What are dark pokemon?
As mentioned before, dark pokemon are pokemon whose minds have turned to the dark side. Their personalities have become twisted, and when in a battle they can become vicious and blood-thirsty, usually leaving their opponent half dead. In most cases, you'd be a fool to consider turning your pokemon evil, as they become wild and almost impossible to tame. However, if you do succeed to tame them, then you will have a pokemon that's incredibly strong.
What do they look like?
Dark pokemon are reletively easy to spot. Their coats have become darker in colour, and you can see a faint aura that encompasses their bodies.
What are the benefits of a dark pokemon?
Dark pokemon get a 10 damage increase to all their attacks.
A dark pokemon is able to learn special Shadow moves
How do you turn your pokemon dark?
If you're decided to be a Royal a*****e Dark trainer and train dark pokemon, you must first accomplish a few things.
You must have a Victim pokemon
You need to have at least three gym badges OR contest ribbons. Dark pokemon are very hard to control, so having some badges or ribbons helps in the controlling process.
You need to send in a trade of 500g to the mule. Team rocket doesn't do charity.
