Alice was exhausted by the final appliqué was to be let in to see her. Silently she stared at the koi in the pond next to her and brushed strands of hair form her face. Her eyes drifted downward to the leather-bound book on her lap, but by now she had memorized name face and persona that was identified with each possible student. The girl coming next was a dancer specializing in en point ballet, not an easy feat for someone of such a young age, but something about her seemed determined. Alice’s nimble fingers rubbed slow tight circles on her temples as though trying to forget the events of the past morning.
Her gaze slowly shifted to the gate where the female would enter and be judged on her motivation, and determination regarding finding what it is she loves.
"I do hope she really is as good as everyone seems to think." She mumbled before scribbling something else in her notebook.

Nyx took a deep breath and walked into the room. She made sure that she didn't walk in early and she made positive she wasn't late. She wanted this so much, she didn't want to make on wrong move. She walked in, her pink hair tied up carefully in a pretty ballerina bun. She was clad in a simple black leotard and skirt and her pink en point shoes were placed on her feet, ready to show what they could do. She stood nervously infront of Alice, with a determined look on her small features. Yes she was young, yes she wasn't the strongest cat but she was talented and determined and worked everyday for this goal. And she wanted this, more than anything. She smiled nervously at Alice as she stood infront of her. "Thank you for giving me this opportunity." she said , her soft sweet voice filled with determination.

Alice smiled to the younger girl in attempts to calm her, and all the while looking her up and down. She knew from personal experience that nothing would really calm those shaky nerves, but still she tried, people worked best when they weren’t under pressure. The girl had a fierce determination she admired, in fact that was what drew the female into accepting the girls application… her pulling through her sickness with something they both loved. Alice had been prepared, looking into each cats background in order to understand each and every one of them.
“Hello Nyx, my name is Alice. Why don’t we start with why is it you wish to come here to this particular territory? And then you can show me the dance you have prepared.” The female smoothed her skirt and stared intently at the other, curious as to what it was she would do. Alice had neither offered her a seat o told her to stand.
Queitly she scribbled more into her note pad about the girl, height weight and estimated sizes... all important later.

Nyx smiled nervously. "Hello Alice. It's nice to meet you." the teenager said, attempting to stop herself fidgetting. She was so nervous but she knew that she had to do well on this, otherwise she couldn't be able to get into this terrotory, the only one that had ever interested her in moving away from her very loving family. "Well when I was little I was born with a heart condition, this made me much smaller and weaker than other cats. I can't go out in the sun for long because of photosensitivity. Because of all of these reasons I started dancing. I watched ballerinas on tv and wanted to have that sort of freedom. To be as strong and as elegent as them. And then I started to dance and I felt a freedom I had never felt before. When cats see me dance they don't see a sick little kitten who needs protection, they see a ballerina. This gave me something to really live for and I want to continue with this feeling. I want to learn more dances. I want to prove to everyone that I'm not some sick little thing that needs protection. I want to be something more. I do a lot of my dancing in an abandoned dance studio but I can only learn so much without a teacher, without others to learn from. That's why I want to join your territory. There really is nothing I want more in this world than to become better at dancing. It's keeping me alive, it's making me free." she said, every sentence from the heart.

Alice noted the sound of determination and sense of longing in the girls voice, it made her smile… she too had once been that determined, but she had calmed a bit in age. “Thank you Nyx, now will you please show me the dance you have prepared for today?” [[A youtube example will suffice]] The Somali female’s ears perked up with curiosity, watching the young girl prepare. Each dancer always prepared for an audition a different way, and to be completely honest, it was this that intrigued her almost more then the dances themselves. Nothing good comes from not being warmed up correctly. Despite her pledge to remain unbiased, Alice felt some difficulty with not reminding herself that this girl could only handle so much exhilaration, she studied her with firm eyes, and decided it best not to imagine how she would feel had this been her daughter.
The Somali calmly sat down, tucking one ankle behind the other, while jotting down a few brief measurements in her mind. It was always good to have a persons clothing size, especially one you expected to go far. Alice sighed inwardly, it had to be now that she would watch the girl and question her own dancing skills in the process. She wanted desperately to teach, but she didn’t know exactly how good she was. A few beats passed before she spoke, setting down her notepad and watching the girl intently once more. “You may begin.”

Nyx swallowed again as she attempted to calm her nerves. She had been preparing for this audition for such a long time, pracitcing the dance over and over. She went over and took out her little cd played, more because this was her routine than anything else. She was afraid if she broke it she wouldn't be able to dance propperly. She put on the music, making sure it didn't start for a minute or two as she streched, testing her toes and such. Then she took her starting position and started to dance, letting herself get caught up in the music. Her dancing for this piece wasn't perfect but it was very, very good for someone who had taught herself how to dance by herself. Finally she finished dancing, sweat dripping from her forhead. She breathed in deeply, watching Alice with worried eyes, afraid that she just wasn't good enough. (( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liX1exuIkks ))

Alice watched her with intensity until she finished, she had easily picked out the few flaws the girl had, but was surprised to see they were low in number, and not very noticeable to anyone that isn’t a dancer. She nodded to the girl, shifting her things to the bench on the other side of her. The Somali nodded, folding her hands over her crossed legs. “What else are you interested in learning here Nyx? I can’t just accept you for excellent skills in dancing, this is a institution for learning, and I want all the students to apply themselves.”
The female stood, walking over to the girl and straightening her stance, and fixing her hands so that the palms were completely covered. “The ballerina must hold her hands so, and when she brings them up she must watch them, as if reading a secret written on their palm A secret that must be hidden.” Alice liked this girl already, she wasn’t sure why… she just did. Nyx… was like a little her. Which made her proud of the girl for some reason, an attachment and a favoritism that scared her a bit.

Nyx panted slightly as she finished her dancing, watching Alice intently with determination in her eyes. She relaxed herself slightly as she tried to think of a good answer to her question. "Well I really want to learn all types of dancing, mostly, but I also would love to study literature and I'd like to learn a martial art." she explained to the older female, very eleoquently for such a young girl. "I want to learn to better myself in as many things as possible. I want to learn to be independent and resonsible and to become a stonger cat and I really think I could learn that if I would join your territory." she explained to Alice.
Nyx gratefully took Alices advice, straightening and fixing her hands. "Thank you, Miss Alice." she said softly. "I know I still have a lot to learn about ballet and other types of dance. Teaching myself on my own wasn't a very easy feat. Especially the En Point ballet." she told her quietly. "But I also enjoyed it and it made me learn how much work I still have to do to achieve my goal of becoming a dancer." she said happily to the older cat but she couldn't help but feel less nervous, she liked Alice.

Alice nodded; they were good goals indeed. “No miss, please… it makes me feel old. Just Alice.” She shook her head lightly, turning from the girl and thinking quietly. “How does your family feel about you coming here?” she questioned finally, smiling with her back to the girl. It didn’t matter really, families always had problems letting go of their young.
The Somali stroked her chin, pondering a bit more, with a twinkle in her eye. Things were going well… three out of four had impressed her and continued to do so.
“Well Nyx… I don’t think I can pester you with any more questions. Most of our cats will share rooming with the Ruins, I am a good friend to the master of that territory and we have a strong alliance. I expect you to have your things moved in by three days hence.” She laughed and turned, pulling Nyx into a hug. “I can’t wait to have another dedicated to more than one type of dance here!”

Nyx nodded as Alice spoke to her. She didn't want to insult the older cat but she had thought of being polite. "I talked to my mother a little bit about coming here...about having an audition anyway. She didn't seem to happy. But I'll be able to convince them eventually. This is something I really want to do and I'm sure they'll understannd it...eventually." she explained to Alice with a small smile. "All they really want is for me to be happy, I think."
Nyx's eyes widened and sparkled as she listened to Alice. "Really Alice?! I can really join your University?! Oh thank you so much! You wont regret it!" she said excitedly, hugging the older cat back. "Thank you!!"

Alice smiled and patted the girls head warmly. Passion, that’s what she wanted here. She wanted no fights, no problems… she just wanted simple dedication as unrealistic as that may have been. A smile formed on her lips as she tugged the girl off of her.
“no go tell your parents what you have been up to without their permission. Make amends and be on time. Dance is the strictest thing the university has to offer. I will be watching you like you are my daughter, not my apprentice. . Nothing will go unnoticed, diet, who you date, and how well you listen to directions. Ballet is one of the strictest dances that have been created. I hope your not too intimidated by this fact." Shrugging slightly Alice made the gesture for her to go, before turning and sitting back down, scribbling more things down in her file.

Nyx blushed. She didn't know how Alice knew that she had come here without her parents permission but she was right on target. Oh course she didn't regret lying to her parents and going out to do the audition. After all she had been successful and that's what counted now. She nodded feverishly. "I promise! I'll make sure I'm on time and I'll do anything you want me to Alice!!" she exclaimed. For anyone else this would all seem horribly daunting and almost off putting but not to Nyx. This was everything she wanted and more. She shook her head. "Not intimidated at all. That's one of the reasons I love it." she said softly. She grinned broadly and bowed deeply to Alice. "I'll take my leave to tell my parents. I'll make sure to be back on time!" she said with a beaming smile and running off, her heart pounding and her emotions giddy with triumph.
