The Chime Gardens are Japanese Style Gardens. They are cool and quiet, the perfect place for quiet thinking or catching up with friends. Koi Ponds offer the gentle sounds of running water and the graceful beauty of the fish.

She'd been running for a few minutes, trying to look casual as she pieced together what had happened. All Rosie knew was that she had to get out of the cafeteria area and away from the glass she had broken. It was all so frightening. Having these powers, breaking things when you didn't mean to. It made her fear for the people around her who didn't know what she could do at all.
But the gardens were the best place to go, as they were built for serenity. Rosie could feel that in the very air. Even the fish were calm with no worries swimming through their heads as they spied for bugs. She liked it here, and this, she decided, was where her and Miss Souris would meet for their counseling.
Because, she thought, she did need it. She needed the help, and she needed Anna to sort out the feelings and powers stirring within her. As Rosie took a seat on a large rock by the koi pond, she tried hard not to cry. The pain in her head was better than hiding tears from people she didn't know.

He felt a little sick inside at the thought of having to apologize for something he hadn't intended on doing. If he wanted to insult that girl he would have....would have told her that she was too plain, too shy and mousy. Flicking a paper ball? That was seriously nothing to get upset about. Ah well, he still knew what he needed to do. There was no use ostracizing one of the few girls he'd actually had a conversation longer than, "Hey, what's your name? See you in class? no? Alright then..."
When he found the end of the path, he found his prey...er...quarry. She looked so lonely just sitting at the edge of the pond, he had the sudden urge to go up to her and just pat her on the head a bit for reassurance. She was so sad over a little thing... He'd gotten the impression that she was fragile, but he had no idea it led to something this intense. It made him nervous. Strange.
So he approached her quietly. With every footstep came the cadence in his mind: carefully, cautiously, gently, carefully, cautiously, gently. It was like walking up to a wild animal.
"So...ah...you want to be alone? I just wanted to say...sorry for earlier. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings or anything."

You gonna move a little faster boy? He may have felt like he was stalking the frightened animal, but the animal was all too aware of his approach and had taken on the role of predator. Though Rosie could hardly compare herself to a lion, or something more noble than what she really felt like: a scared cat. A creature that puffs out when cornered and hisses, strikes, and runs. She could let him get close, lash out, and feel satisfied at watching him run... or do the ultimate capture and ensnare him as her friend.
It was strange how one seemed more brutal and more final than the other, and yet that was the one she was choosing. She was going to make a friend.
As she listened to him apologize, she could feel that slight disgust seeping into her. That feeling of, "I can't believe I'm actually doing this." But she shoved it out, and made it go away. It wasn't her feeling, and she was going to use her own words to respond.
"I'm sorry," she said, looking up at him briefly from her rock. Her eyes flitted back to the water just so she wouldn't be so nervous. It was that and the sense of defeat she had to resign to that she hated so much. "...you must think I'm mental. I'm going to get help, I am, but right now I'm just... scared."
Scared of so many things that she kept telling herself could be fixed. Just imagining the solutions she could find in Grove, though, made her smile come out as a small twitch on the corner of her mouth. A small beginning, but it was one nonetheless. "Guess I haven't learned how to control everything yet."

She'd never gotten along with them, and they always seemed to chatter angrily about entering their territory. When she'd tried to ask one if they'd seen Rosie about well...it ended up as a large nut fight, people passing by and wondering why the heck a girl was yelling at a squirrel, though they seemed too afraid to ask. Once Ella realized what an idiot she was making of herself, yelling at the gray squirrel in it's own language, she blushed and bustled off, following the directions of a robin instead. They were always more reliable. There was always something to be said for being half-dryad, but some animals were just nicer then others to her. 'Damn squirrels.'Her silently padding feet came to a stop as she heard voice coming from the nearby benches; Rosie and Yule. She smiled, resting her back against a nearby tree where she couldn't be seen and just opting to listen for a little bit. She was small enough not to be noticed for a little while, and honestly, she was curious to see how they both handled themselves. This was often how she was; observing people deeply before associating with them, catching onto their little habits, remembering everything she could. It often surprised people, but it was simply her way. Her little snippets of observation and sentimentality. He was ready to defend himself when she berated him for hurting her feelings, for being so unconsciously idiotic - little did anyone know that this was perhaps his greatest social Achilles heel - for being so...
But then she apologized, and he was thrown off balance completely. He managed to blink a few times, stammer an indecisive syllable of what my have been Hindi before he could collect himself with a clearing of his throat. He was off his game, and maybe he should stay off for now. It seemed as though whenever he tried to follow his 'plan,' things went awry. Though how he should continue, he wasn't quite sure.
"I....I'm not quite sure why you're the one apologizing...." He began. He let one hand run through his unruly hair and pulled up at the legs of his jeans so he could crouch down on his haunches beside her. The Old Woman in the Delhi circus had told him and the other young boys that "one should never cast shadow where they are trying to place sunlight." To him, it seemed as though standing over her would be too conscientiously domineering when he was simply trying to glean some insight into this person. "I am the one who started all this. Unless..."
He thought back to when the glass exploded. Samyule had seen the fractures as they formed and watched them splinter into dangerous shards. Naturally everyone else had flinched, but his skill had played everything as though it were in slow motion. He could see every piece and knew where it would land. His body reacted in turn, his powers readying his skin for whatever projectile made its way to him. Even if they had managed to hit him, he wouldn't have been cut by something like that. "You're worried about the exploding...thing?" He laughed, but it wasn't cruel, it was part sigh, part relieved chuckle. "It would take more than that to bring me down. My powers, remember? I'm super durable. Rosie, I can jump off buildings and moving trains without being injured...usually. "Really?" It was like finding the perfect color for a painting. The right one just brought everything out, made all around it more vibrant. Samyule was super durable, she told herself, and the very thought made her shyly smile. "That's good, because I broke a window once. I don't hurt people, though, unless I'm trying."
The window had been a complete accident as well. She'd been invited to a wedding in a place with large rooms and very large windows. It had sort of been like a ball, until she let chaos loose. It had been a simple thing: her relatives wanted her to go into the fray to have a go at catching the bouquet. She didn't want to. It was so simple. She hadn't wanted to, she said no, but they kept insisting and telling her to and finally her anxiety came to its peak, and no more window. The whole thing came crashing down, yet somehow the shards landed outside rather than in. That was enough to tell Rosie that her energy had hit it with enough force, and that was when she began to truly fear for the people around her. Needless to say, the car ride home was extraordinarily difficult, silent, and full of tension.
They all knew why the window had shattered, and Rosie had never been taken to or allowed to go to a big event since.
There had been times since then when she had been determined to be the thorn in someone's side. They couldn't understand her and the wouldn't try, so her plan was to shove them all away so she couldn't get hurt more. But now, Sam was crouching beside her and making an effort to be friendly. Much to her surprise, Rosie wasn't finding at all the need to shove him away or yell at him. She wanted him to stay, and she found herself missing Ella.
This whole relaxing thing is actually working.
Rosie tried the next step. She turned her head at him and smiled a bit more, even laughed. "Jumping off trains? Can't say I've ever done that."

Thinking of the trains brought back a painful homesickness he often felt. His favorite ride went through sun dried fields and stirred up miniature hurricanes of dust and dirt that stuck to everything. His family valued their light-skin in comparison to the rest of their people, but when he arrived home after a day of hopping rail cars with the other street brats, he came home significantly darker skinned than he left.
He remembered being scrubbed from head to toe by his angry mother outside in the alley. He remembered the feel of the rough spun cloth on his body, and the cold water and harsh soap. But he remembered, too, thinking of the next day and where that train would go and which new street gang he'd meet. It was always an adventure, like the tales told in the temples.
"It was our lithium, I guess. Back home, it wasn't hard to get lost in the street violence and gangs. Hopping trains was a way for us to keep out of trouble. I was only good at it because of my powers."
His knees protested holding his body balanced in a crouch, so he slid down to the grass and stretched them out with a sigh. This place felt easy. "It's funny, but I always thought my life had been hard...and I guess it was...but I thought American kids had it so easy. I think perhaps some things are harder for you though. Like school....you were required to go every day, right? That's insane. I've already been disciplined here for skipping classes too much..." d o n ' t x g r o w x u p ┊ ✿xxxxx★:「 EVERY 」stop I GET TOxxxxxxxxI'mCLOCKINGthat g a m exxxxxxxx▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ xxx • • • x bonafide hustler ┊ just making my name ✔xxxxxxxx。Perryxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

They seemed to be getting along just fine, which surprised her a little. She had been a little dubious on both of their social skills at first, Rosie obviously had her own issues and it had been utterly tactless of Yule to lob that bit of crumpled paper at her, but it didn't seem like neither Rosie nor Yule needed anyone right now. 'I think they're just fine without me. Now, if I can just slip off without being noticed, I won't have to make up some excuse.' Taking a careful, measured glance behind her at them to make sure no ones attention was on herself, Ella silently slipped out from behind the tree, keeping in the shade and slipping behind each trunk with ease. However, her plan was foiled as an acorn came whizzing out and whacking her in the head. Ella let out an explosive curse, and forgetting she was actually supposed to be hiding, let out, holding her head, and chattering angrily at the squirrel in it's own noise. "Your territ- what the hells do you mean your territory! You followed me here, you weak excuse for a furry woodland creature!" She seemed to completely forget anyone was around as Ella picked up several acorns and lobbed them at the weaving and ducking squirrel, still adopting it's high pitched chatter as her own. ≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎I've got nostalgic pavements I've got familiar faces I've got a mixed-up memory And I've got favorite places

"Wha?" Rosie was just about to say how she at least had it easy in a way, but the sudden explosive argument and noise behind her cut her off completely. She turned around to have a look at the commotion and found herself staring at Ella. I'm normal here, she realized as she watched the girl yell and chatter at the small grey thing weaving through the treetop above.
Now, Rosie wasn't one to judge, but she had never seen anyone so vehemently insulting or lobbing nuts at a squirrel before. She'd never seen anyone talking to a squirrel before. And yet despite all the oddities, Rosie found herself laughing so hard that her eyes began to water. What a strange world this was, and she had chosen it on her own.
"Ella!" she called out between her fits. "Ella, leave him alone and get over here!"
Maybe the fish in the pond would serve as better friends for this girl, but when Rosie looked over to the large koi, she could practically feel them shaking their heads at what was going on. It was a feeling of slight amusement, but wishing things would calm down a bit all at once.
Rosie didn't know she could do that with animals before. It was sort of like talking, but not knowing exactly what was going on... feelings, but not quite fully understanding. "Cool..." she whispered, no longer laughing but fascinated.

Seemed like the thing a concerned well-wisher would want for the two of them...time to talk things out. He was grateful he could apologize in his own way, but was even more grateful now that there were the three of them to share their stories with each other again. People might get the wrong ideas about his friendliness with Rosie if they were alone too much.
"Fair Damsel!" He laughed, dashing with exaggerated motion over to where Ella was ducking projectiles thrown by a....squirrel. "Begone, thee knave, lest I summon the Templars!" With a smooth easy motion, he lifted Ella up and draped her across his shoulders. It wasn't hard, he'd done it thousands of times with other girls and then would have proceeded to do some kind of daring show-stopping performance act. This time, however, he contented himself with "rescuing" this one from the offending wildlife.
As he got back to their spot by the pond, he set her down carefully again on the ground. "Friend of yours?" He asked Ella with a raised eyebrow. As though nothing had happened, he dropped to the ground again and assumed a relaxed position on the grass. Colin did that on occasion, and the most he got was a good kick in the shins, and she knew him like the back of her hand. She didn't even know this guy. However, as Yule set her down on the grass soon after, she merely squirmed a bit and looked a little frazzled, rather then launching a kick at his leg. For one, she doubted it would hurt him, and two, she had enough social experience to know that people didn't oft like being kicked. Ella let out a short awkward laugh, ending in a glare as she heard the squirrel cackling up in the tree. "Yeah, you laugh now, but wait till I sic some bloody blue-jays on you, jerk!" Launching the last nut in her arsenal, she hit the furry animal, who chattered angrily at the half-dryad and then scampered up a large tree and out of sight. Shifting her weight to look back at Yule, she stifled an awkward cough into her hand. "Most certainly not a friend, mate." She sent them both an innocent smile, as if that incident had never happened. A glance was sent to the koi in the pond, who sent out a clear snickering vibe before scattering away. "So, I hope I wasn't interrupting anything with my...rivalry with the furry wildlife. Chipmunks love me, but squirrels are just jerks." She leaned back in the grass, gesticulating with one hand. "They're all 'get out of my territory, don't go near my stash, those are my nuts!' blah, blah blah.." Ella subsided into British-brogued muttering. The laughter would keep coming, it seemed. Rosie watched as Yule fearlessly scooped her up, walked her over and set her down as if they had some kind of familiarity between them. People had always wanted to pick up Rosie because she was so small, but her vibes alone kept them at bay. Now, though, Rosie was wishing someone would pick her up and carry her around, maybe just for a few moments. Just so she would know what it was like.
"Don't worry about it," she said to Ella. "We were just talking. I'm alright now, too." Rosie flashed a nervous little smile, hoping she'd once more be granted the patience Ella seemed to be filled with. "I just get nervous sometimes." How many times she would have to explain herself, Rosie didn't want to know, but each time it felt like a little punishment for all she'd ever done.

He affirmed Rosie's assurances with a mere sound. "I've told her that I won't break as easily as the rest of the puny humans she's met." He made the word puny sound as though it had been said by an evil super-villain. It was strange, but even with this British girl who could speak with animals, and the American who had some sort of problem with self-confidence, he found his sense of humor coming back to him. It had been such a long time since he felt as easy as this. It was refreshing.
The last time had been during his shows in Paris with the rest of Cirque. He had just finished an act balancing on ladders - something new he'd come up with one day while he had been repairing the roof on one of their equipment trucks - and had gone backstage to receive pats on the back and words of encouragement. It was like a family. He knew everyone's story and they knew his but they never judged each other on anything other than ability and ethic. It was so warm, so easy.
He found himself digging through his pocket to find something to do the usual demonstration of his powers. Super-durable was the phrase the headmaster had used after watching him jump from a building and land unscathed. "And if you still don't believe me Rosie-posy, this will prove it." His pocketknife was always sharp, so he first demonstrated by slicing a nearby twig in half easily.
He then turned the blade on his skin, pressing firmly and slicing cross-wise over his arm.
But nothing happened, as he knew it wouldn't. Super-durable, it had its benefits in the crime-ridden streets of Delhi. "It takes a lot of physical damage to hurt me unless I'm sick or weakened or something. That's not saying that I'm always invulnerable...I have to train to keep my muscles and joints strong or else using my powers will harm me. It was good to know that she wasn't intruding on a special moment where they actually became friends; it would kill her to do so. This was nice, just to sit here with a couple people her age and chat, even if she barely knew them, she already knew she'd like to. She looked over curiously as Yule spoke, and her eyes shot open in surprise as he drew the knife across his arm. She sat up halfway, reaching for his arm automatically before it kicked in that he wasn't harmed and she drew back again, her arm half outstretched before. It was merely a knee-jerk reaction to look after someone of they got harmed, intentionally or accidentally, and that was what had driven her. Letting out a relieved sigh, Ella flopped back onto her back, tossing him a glance to make sure he really was alright, before looking at Rosie. "I may not be invulnerable, Rose, but I'm certainly tough enough to deal with explosions, the breaking of a teacup or otherwise." She smirked, and then drew back the sleeve of her jacket to show off her own arm to Rosie. "Observe, luv." Closing her eyes, she drew upon the earthen strength within her. What looked like bark could be seen growing out from the tip of her fingers, growing larger and stronger, until the rough brown material coated her arm to the elbow and she opened her eyes again. It was perfectly flexible, but quite tough. Not as tough as Yules skin, but tough enough for her to get by. "I've done this a couple times with stone, but it's a little bit hard and kinda risky, so I stick with bark. It's more natural to me." At a mental command, it receded instantly and she showed off her fully human arm with a flourish. "If you ever meet my brother, which you likely will, he won't be bothered by such things either, ruddy angel boy." With that, she fixed her eyes on the sky again, seemingly unworried that they both had confirmed to Rose that they could willingly and happily put up with anything she dished out. Heck, even if Ella had had no measure of protection, that wouldn't have stopped her from trying to become Rosies friend. ≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎I've got nostalgic pavements I've got familiar faces I've got a mixed-up memory And I've got favorite places
