So I'm the equivalent of second chair bass clarinet in my school band. There are only two of us bass clarinet players. The other player, Zack, totally has everything figured out and is doing IMEA scales super fast. I still can't do 12 Grand Master Scales. I got the crappy bass clarinet donated from some kid in the high school. Great. My conductor hates me. I can't figure out these stupid goshdarn notes, and Bassie (my bass clarinet) decides when to hit a high note. She decides when it's time to hit a low note, and she decides when it's time to shut up and do what I tell her to. Once, during the Solo and Ensemble Contest, I was all ready and pumped and in tune and perfect. Then, the second I start playing, she decides she's gonna make all my G's sharp! UGH! Similar experiences?

I am the lead bass clarinet player in my Sr. high band... There is only one other and he's a total newb. My bass clarinet is the best one that is rented out at the school and it is still very crappy. The highest it plays is a high E (sometimes). It squeaked so loud while playing on a trip to Italy that everyone heard it *sweatdrop*

I once had to play bass clarinet for I think a couple of weeks because my clarinet was being fixed and my band director need more low voices. There was another guy who played it much longer than me. I was able to get like the basic notes ( middle C to B flat.) I couldn't get much higher because we found out mine was broken. I ended up switching back to clarinet. You'll be fine it you can have a very intense and controlled air stream.

Thanks. Another thing... do yall know on the cases of any instrument, they have those clasps?? Well last year, I came to warm up and I opened my case, and the clasps just fell off, just like that. It was crazy. Anything like that ever happen to you??? And if it did, what went wrong?

Well I would assume that its just like playing Bflat clarinet since its just a deeper stretched out version but I wouldn't know because I play Clarinet heart but my friend plays bass clarinet and she says it's easy except you have to put wayy more air in it. And the bass clarinets at our school are very crappy like my friend has to SHARE a ligature with some other guy in the other band ewww thats soo gross >.< and the cases suck. My friend's case has one of the clasps broken so she like got a piece of rope and tied it together XD so you could try that to temporaly fix it.
