now i've been hearing alot on how black comedians arent funny because they usually talk about how " white people do this...and niggas do this" and i'll admit alot of them do.......but thats not their whole act, people act like thats just all they talk about and i've seen alot of stand-ups......alot, from old school to new school and guess what white comedians do it to, you know why? acknowledging ours and other races humorous attributes is quite funny so i see nothing wrong with it, how about you?

[I think it's funny if we make fun of each other and ourselves in a creative way. But if I have to hear one black comedian after another saying "white people this" and "white people that" I'm going to get annoyed. It's like, "Damn, find something else to talk about." And I can't stand it when black comedians make "white jokes" the bulk of their act. It's annoying. And I'm black; I feel totally uncomfortable if I happen to be around white people and they have to hear that endless ragging on their color. But I understand it's unavoidable when you listen to a black comic; you can count on at least one white/Asian/Hispanic joke. And to think it's so "unacceptable" for white comics to make black jokes. rolleyes That's why shows like Family Guy and American Dad are so popular: because they allow white (and other) people to feel comfortable about making black jokes and laughing at the ones others make. There are countless black jokes in those shows. 3nodding ]

I don't find a lot of comedians funny, but when i do, it's never about white or black jokes, it's usually about specific people, or current events. i think that's why i liked Eddie Murphy back in the day. his album (titled Eddie Murphy) from before 48 Hours came out was one of his funniest, in my opinion. there were a few race jokes in it, but the majority was just comedy.
it's all in the delivery for me.

[I like a lot of black comedians: Chris Rock, Richard Pryor, Bill Cosby ( heart ), Cedric the Entertainer, Bernie Mac...plus Steve Martin, Margaret Cho... all of them for different reasons. Chris Rock is brash, and throws some political and current event related jokes in the mix; Richard Pyor swears like a sailor and talks about real things and somehow makes them funny; Bill Cosby is gentler, more family oriented, Cedric is THE self-proclaimed "grown a** man" who rips on the things adults would know about; Mac is harsh and says things that are funny as hell, but if he was being serious, he'd be in jail. Steve Martin has funny expressions and is good with props and slapstick; Cho is harsh and just really real. I love to laugh, and it warms my heart that so many people make it their business to make us laugh. whee ]

that's what i mean though - if someone can make you laugh, or even smile, without constantly making race jokes or nasty jokes, then they're funny. i like M Cho, though! she's crazy!

Ahh... I think some black/white jokes are funny... If you have seen The Orginal Kings of Comedy - it was talking about how white people hope and black people wish... It went something like this... Imatation of a white man: Gosh, we are late. I HOPE someone isn't in our seats... Then (Cedric I think) went on to talk about how black people WISH. He said something like, "I WISH a ***** WOULD be in my seat!"
It made me laugh, cause I catch myself doing stuff like that... like "Oh I wish that heifer would say somethin to me." I think comedians are funny when you can relate to them... I watched the Latin Kings of Comedy and I hardly laughed through it... But I love comedy... Comic View... went down the drain... Bruce Bruce.. *tear* Ill stop talking rubbish now.

[Yay, another Cho fan! 4laugh She was on CSPAN (or what ever channel that is that has authors talking about their books) cursing up a storm! She was reading from her book, which I think I'm going to pick up. 3nodding
I think I saw that same Cobsy video...except it was on TV. I think Comedy Central was counting down the greatest comics of all time or something.
I agree with Disruptive--I like comics that I can relate to. 3nodding I liked most of the Kings of Comedy, but I've never seen the Latin Kings of Comedy. I have seen the Queens of Comedy...not as funny as the Kings unfortunately. xp
That's something I don't like: nasty jokes. If I'm watching stand-up with Mom, I DO NOT want to hear joke after joke about sex. gonk Even if I'm watching it alone that's still not funny all the time. And that "nose-hair on the sandwich, pissing in your beer, 'spittin' in your onion rings'" bullshit just makes me sick. stressed ]

Disruptive But I love comedy... Comic View... went down the drain... Bruce Bruce.. *tear* [...]
[Yes, Comic View went down the drain. Which drain? The nasty toilet pipes. I could stand the close-up shots of shaking breasts and a**...I could stand the "comic view dancers" and the models they had sitting at tables on stage. I could even almost tolerate that old pervert they kept on the show for so long. (That was the older Comic View). But now with the "Club" Comic view bullshit, and the addition of already well-known comedians making cameos...and the overall lack of talent... I don't even watch that show anymore, not even when they show Classic Comic View, because of the snippets of acts they choose to show. evil

I liked how he made fun of himself (the drugs and setting himself on fire). I've only seen one or two shows of his, but I still remember so many of the jokes...it was really good. 3nodding ]
