A nice cool day finally struck Barton, summer changing into fall. Of course, it wasn't too chilly yet, and made a great day just to run around in the park and let out some energy. Sent off with a little spending money, Donat and Amara had found their way to the central park near the Symphony. The crisp, cool air made the sunshine seem even brighter, especially out in the grassy clearing.

"You wanna try n' catch stuff?" Donat smiled to his companion, who raised the dragon equivalent of an eyebrow. "Like frisbees or sticks?" The dragon simply huffed at being degraded to a dog, and sat in retaliation.

"Or we could do something else." The goat-boy sighed, flopping down on the grass beside her. "There's gotta be some playground to climb around somewhere, right?" He stared up at the sky, watching the clouds. Too bad he hadn't brought his skateboard....But who knows? Something interesting might happen...

Luna stopped the car in the parking lot to the park and waited a second to compose herself. She had been on the brink of laughing for the past five minutes because the little wriggling bundle that was Mariel was just way to excited to be going out. Since it had been so hot lately the little mink girl had been loathe to go outside, being covered in fur was not an advantage in the summer. But today the weather was cool and she was excited to be able to run around, so excited in fact that she had been bouncing in her seat the whole ride. Luna had refused to laugh and bit her lip but it was just so darn CUTE! She decided to let Mariel oput of the car to remove her temptation.

"Okay boquis, a fuera!" She announced and in one shot mariel was already undoing her seatbelt and opening the door. Luna smiled and got out of the car. "Esperate......Mariel...ESPERATE!?!" But mariel was not paying attention and did not wait for her mother. She dashed off into the park to find the playground to run to do ANYTHING. Luna sighed and kept a careful eye on the girl as she walked into the park to find a bench that would give her the best view of as much of the park as possible.

Mariel darted away from the car, oh freedom had never tasted so GOOD! Granted she hadnt really been imprisoned but hot days were just not fun. Today however was fun, this she decided. She ran around an arbitrary tree and just for the moment enjoyed that she could run and jump and be a kid again because of the drop in temperature. Once her initial excitement wore off she began to explore this park. It was one that she didnt come to as often as another park that was closer to her mothers work and so it had to be properly explored. She looked at trees, felt them, sniffed at them, jumped from root to root, then moved to the next one, waited and listened to the sounds around her. It was all rather fun and she was enjoying herself immensely when a glint of something metallic caught her eye. It wasnt the kind of metallic she was used to and so it warranted investigation.

She moved towards it and couldnt quite make out what it was untill she got a little closer. Then her eyes widened and she squeaked happily. "I found a dragon in the park!?" Mariel ran towards the thing which she could see from behind and as she got closer she saw someone with the dragon. Mariel was excited to find new people and so she slowed to a fast walk as to not be too offensive and approached the strangers with a smile and a "YOU HAVE A DRAGON!?"

Donat looked up as soon as the little girl squealed about the dragon. He glanced to Amara beside him, and then looked back to Mariel. Another D-Corp kid? Well, at least he wasn't the only one in the area.

"Yep." He smiled brightly. "This is Amara. She's a Copper Dragon." He introduced the girl to the lady. Amara glanced up at the girl, seeming much less bored. At least Donat could properly introduce a LADY.

Donat laughed at the sudden interest on the dragon's part.
"So you're gonna get a dragon when you're older?" He asked, smiling gently to the girl. She seemed to be nice, after all.

Amara got up and walked around Mariel curiously, observing the girl a little more. Eventually, deciding that the girl meant no harm, plopped down at her feet to be friendly.

Mariel had to admit she was a little scared that the dragon suddenly walked over to her and gave her what seemed like a once over. But the dragon seemed to decide to settle near her and so mariel decided that she would introduce herself so she could examine this new specimen. She looked over to the boy and at once couldnt decide if she was more curious about his horns or the new dragon. She didnt mean to stare but she hadnt seen horns on anyone before. Her tail swished behind her brushing along the grass and twitching randomly as her thoughts changed. She finally realized that she might be thought to be rude and so smiled and waved.

"Oh HI I'm Mariel." she just couldnt resist and before she could stop herself she said, "How'd you get horns on your head?" She knew it was obvious now that she was wondering about them and she let her glance move to the dragon and realised that the copper dragon had horns as well, she suddenly knew what happened. "Wait your dragon has horns too.....you get horns from your dragon?! Am I gonna get horns?!" She couldnt decide if this was a good thing or a bad thing and so was caught halfway between a smile and a frown as she thought about it. Afterall Horns might impede her tumbling skills and she was finally starting to get good at that. She looked at the dragon again trying to puzzle out the mystery of how this boy got horns. The only other dragon she had ever seen was Vorrel and he didnt have horns but neither did Geia therefore if your dragon had horns you got them to! She decided that the world did indeed work in mysterious ways....

She suddenly remembered that he had asked her a question about getting her own dragon and decided to answer even if it was late, she was still young and her curiosity tended to keep her attention span short. "I AM going to get a dragon one day...but I dont know if I want horns...."

Donat watched as she introduced herself, taking in the girl's characteristics. The fur looked rather soft and warm, which must have been hard in the summer. Noticing she was staring at him, he gave an embarrassed smile, wondering what was so odd about him. Was it his hands? Sure he was missing a few fingers, but it wasn't that odd was it? Or was it his blotchy fur? Or maybe he had something on his face? He gave up wondering and just waited for her to speak.

"I'm Donat." He introduced in return. "And sorry, she's just a little...Observent." He gestured to the content Copper Dragon at her side. She lazily looked up, just happy to be out of the cramped apartment. "My...Horns?" He tried to look up at them, but only hit them lightly up against the tree instead. "Well....I've just always had them. Even before Amara." He laughed at her concern.

"No, no. Dragons don't give you horns." He explained. "I was born with these, and Amara was born with hers. I don't think you'll get horns." He smiled to Mariel. Amara simply looked up, wondering why the horns were such a big deal. But then again, this was a younger girl...The dragon decided to let this slide, and settled back down in the rich green grass. Donat smiled slightly, knowing she was just as amused at the logic.

"Oh, so are you part of D-Corp too?" He asked, assuming she was. After all, there couldn't be that many organizations that allowed kids to get dragons. "What kind? Or do you know yet?" He was curious, at the least, ears flicking back a bit as the breeze tickled them. It was such a nice day, after all.

He began to wonder what other types of Dragons there were out there. He had seen only a few, and there had to be more types, right? Just like how there were so many types of skateboards. The thought of just getting Amara to run after him as he sped off in his wheels crossed his mind, though Donat put it off for another day.

Mariel smiled and sighed in relief when Donat told her that she wasnt going to grow horns when she got a dragon. She liked her head just the way it was! But it was interesting to see that other kids were born with horns. She looked up at Donats horns again and wished she were taller, she imagined that the horns would be a very interesting thing to study..."Well I think its good that I'm not getting horns, are they heavy?" Her unending curiosity was filling her head with all kinds of questions about Donat and about Amara, but she wanted to be polite so she wasnt asking all of them at once. "I dunno what dragon I'm gonna get yet, momma says I'm still too little. But I cant wait to find out, its gonna be big and strong and like climbing and swimming, I just know it!" Her eyes sparkled with enthusiasm as she imagined her perfect dragon, something big that she could take on all her adventures.

All this talk of dragons turned ehr attention to Amara who was still resting nearby. Mariel didnt want to make the dragon mad so she didnt touch her but she did get closer, she was so pretty and kind of shiny. She had only seen Vorrel besides this dragon and he was glossy like glass, so then were all dragons some kind of shiny?! She didnt know if being shiny was going to help or hurt the adventuring fantasies she had with her imaginary dragon but she would find out later. For now she had an entirely new dragon AND person to study. She walked around the dragon once looking at it carefully from all angles and in the end couldnt resist asking "Are all dragons shiny?" because of the metallic sheen Amara had. She didnt want to look at the dragon too closely for fear of being rude so she started to walk around Donat her t ail still twitching left and right as her mind whirred.

That was when she saw his hands, they were so interesting! "Your hands!" She exclaimed halfway between surprise and excitement "They look so cool!" She had never seen such hands, but suddenly a though came across her mind and she just had to ask "Does having a dragon do this to hands?" She was curious and afterall it wasnt everyday she got to ask questions about dragons!

Donat laughed quietly at the sigh Mariel gave at his reassurance. Did kids really think that they could get things from dragons? He was pretty sure that couldn't happen, but...Well, maybe he could ask a technician the next visit. "Well....I guess they would be to you. But I've grown up with these, so I'm used to 'em." He smiled down to her. They probably were heavy, but he really couldn't tell. He just had to be careful of doors, right?

"Still too little?' The goat boy smiled. "Don't worry. You'll grow up faster than you know it. It goes by pretty fast." He laughed. It seemed like he was still little just a week ago, waiting for his own dragon. And now, well, time seemed slow. But it was moving pretty fast in reality. "Hmm....I don't know. Amara's only one type, so I bet there's some that aren't shiny. " He mused, looking up to the foliage. "But all the ones I met have been really cool."

Donat watched her walk around him, smiling. Kids were cool. They have so many hopes and dreams and questions! And Mariel, for sure, was observant. He laughed in surprise when she noticed his hands. "Nope. Born with these, just like my horns." He laughed, holding his hand out so she could get a better look. "Just like how you have your tail. I don't think having a dragon does anything to your body...But they're really fun to take care of." He explained, smiling. "Not having thumbs makes things hard, though!"
PostPosted: Thu Nov 12, 2009 7:52 pm

Mariel listened and then looked at her own thumbs, wiggling them before her eyes to see what kind of a difference it would make if she didnt have them. "What do you use thumbs for.....?" Being young she really didnt realize that they were too important and decided that if Donat could live without them then it must be normal to find people without them once in a while. "you must have a strong head." Mariel said matter of factually as Donat mentioned that he was used to the weight of his horns. She gave a big smile and stood up as tall as she could go. "I cant WAIT to grow up, does it really happen fast? Like by tomorrow maybe?" She was always imagining all the things she would be able to do when she was older, go out dancing with Luna, leave the backyard and be able to explore the mountainous country behind her house all by herself, and of course get her dragon!

Her tail swished around behind her to emphasize her thoughts and when it caught her eye she looked at it for a moment before speaking. "You might be right...I have a tail and no dragon, so maybe dragons dont make things appear.....but it would be cool if they did!" She turned her attention back to Amara, "I dunno all the dragons I've seen are shiny, but thats only Amara and Vorrel, so you might be right, cause Amara looks really different." She ventured a little closer to the dragon, still doing her best to be polite and not get to close but watching and trying to memorize every curve and curl of her body. Dragons were such interesting creatures! To think this dragon and Vorel were completely different, so the dragon that she might get would be different to! This whole time she had been thinking it was going to look like Vorel! She now had so many options!!

"Things like holding pencils and opening doors. Lots of stuff! It's really hard if you don't have them." Donat explained with a smile. "I guess it's hard to explain if you've always had them. But I can get around just fine without them!" He laughed. True, it was hard to do everyday things. But he'd gotten used to it by now. It wasn't really a big issue anymore. "Strong? Yeah, I guess it is." He replied to her comment, rubbing the back of his head. "It's already happening." He nodded, grinning. "It may seem like a long time now, but when you look back, it'll seem really fast! Everyone's always growing up. Some people just have more to do than others." He patted her on the head gently, hoping he wasn't being too complex for her.

He laughed at her imagination, thinking about what would happen to him if dragons DID make things appear. "Yeah, it would be cool! Maybe I'd have a longer tail." He nodded, his own twitching behind him in the grass. He watched how mesmerized Mariel was by Amara and smiled even more. "Y'know..If you're reaaally gentle, you can pat her. She won't bite, will you, 'Mara?" Donat looked down to the dragon, who opened one eye just to glance back up at him for confirmation.
PostPosted: Mon Nov 16, 2009 3:26 pm

Mariel gave an I-dont-completely-understand-but-I'm-happy-your-cool-with-it smile to Donat as he tried to explain how thumbs were very necessary but how he got along fine without them anyway. But her smile brightened into a full fledges happy smile when he told her that she was growing up. She wanted to be old enough for a dragon so badly. "Some people have to grow up more than normal?! I hope thats not me." She assumed that Donat meant that some people aged faster than others and wonder if she aged at the average rate. Maybe she was aging slow! Maybe thats why she didnt have a dragon yet! But before she could officially dwell on that horrible fate Donat brough up Amara and how Mariel might be able to touch her. The Second the dragon was brough back into the conversation the little mink gilr cheered up.

"I can pat her?...wait she bites? No you said she doesnt...can I REEEEAAALLLLY pet her?" Mariel looked at Amara with eyes ablaze, she wondered what the dragon would feel like, how it would react. She got a little closer and waited to see what the dragon would do. Nothing happened so Mariel took this as a good sign and once again came a little closer. She carefully placed a hand on Amaras neck and petted her carefully. She felt so nice! Mariel drew her hand back and looked behind her at Donat with the biggest smile she could muster, she was so excited!

Donat smiled again at the younger girl, nodding. "It depends on their situation. But I bet you'll grow up just as quickly as normal people." He encouraged her, giving her an...erm...finger up? (This no thumbs business sometimes made things so awkward!) He was sure he had confused poor Mariel, but hoped the dragon would be a distraction. The moment her face brightened up, he knew it had succeeded.

"Yeah. Go on ahead." He nodded, smiling gently to her. The hesitation made him nod to urge her on, and when she finally petted her, he grinned. There was nothing like making a kid's day. Especially with that big smile she gave him. Way to make a kid's life better!

Amara gave a slight hum of approval as she was petted, shifting a little bit to give Mariel more access to her skin. At least THIS one was gentle and sweet. Approval granted.
PostPosted: Sat Nov 21, 2009 5:53 pm

Mariel was encouraged by the dragons low hum and the shift she made. mariel smiled again and proceeded to gently rub down the scales and softly scratch the places close to the base of the scales. Being small her hands could easily move around the scales and she thought it would be nice to give the dragon a good scratching, afterall it was prabably hard to get scratched in certain places since Donat didnt have thumbs or nails from the looks of it.

She smiled towards Donat, "I think she likes it" She said while trying not to be too loud, she didnt want to bug the dragon now that she was in her good graces. "So whats it like to have a dragon? Do you guys go on adventures? Go swimming? whats she eat?" Mariel was so curious about dragons that she was sure even when she got her own she would still be asking questions. She wanted a dragon so badly that she figured if she at least knew everything she could find out about dragons it might be enough for now.

Amara let out a happy purr as the girl began to scratch her scales. Oh it felt so good...This girl was definitely a friend. No doubt about it! Maybe even a best friend.

Donat laughed as he watched Amara nearly melt from happiness. "Yeah, looks like she does." He nodded, a cheerful smile on his face. He leaned back a little more, letting his back rest on the tree. "Well...It's sort of like having a pet, but it's a lot different than that too. Sort of like another sibling." He mused, trying to think, "We go out a lot, 'cause the apartment's really cramped right now, and 'Mara needs the exercise. We mostly go out on walks." He looked back down to his dragon, who wasn't in any hurry to go back to running around. "She eats lunch meat, mostly. Though I haven't really tried her on anything else. I bet I will soon, though." He patted the dragon's head, smiling as she opened an eye to look up at him.
PostPosted: Thu Dec 10, 2009 6:58 pm

Mariel listened intently as she scratched the dragon, making sure to scratch all over and not just in one place. She had two huge dogs back home that Luna kept and by the way Donat talked it seemed like having a dragon was kind of like keeping a dog, only it was smarter.

"I have two dogs at home that I have to walk too!" She said excitedly "Maybe my doggies are training me to keep a dragon...but arent people supposed to train dogs? Can it work the other way around." A sudden idea popped into her mind. "Is your dragon training you? Cause I'm pretty sure she is alot smarter than my dogs, and if they can train me..." Mariel was delighted and perplexed with the idea that she was being trained by her dogs and Donat was being trained by his dragon. It made sense but in all the strangest ways! She even began to wonder if her dogs were smarter than she gave them credit for, but then remembered some of the antics they always tried to pull and edecided that it was impossible that they were as smart as a dragon, maybe good practice though.

She looked down at the dragon and smiled. "So you eat lunch meat? Like roast beef? I wonder if you'd like fish, thats my favorite. Especialy salmon sushi. Have you guys ever tried it?" She asked addressing both the dragon and the boy. She remembered from her talk with Geia and Vorel that Dragons could talk too, they just spoke a funny language but they understood English and so didn't want to leave Amara out of the conversation.

Amara purred even louder, relaxing even more to encourage Mariel. Oh, if this was heaven, she surely liked it. A lot.

"Really? Two?" Donat smiled. "Mmm...Maybe they are. Dogs are smarter than they let on, sometimes. There's some that save people! I've seen 'em on TV!" He grinned. "'Mara training me? Heh...Probably. She's much too smart for her own good, sometimes. Get yourself into all sorts of trouble, right?" He teased the dragon, who simply huffed at the accusations. She did NOT get into trouble. She was a respectable lady, who wasn't going to take this from Donat!

However, when Mariel started to speak to her, she snapped out of it, and went back to the happy laid-back dragon they had seen earlier. She nodded happily at the girl to lunch meat and roast beef. She had already learned to read those words quite well at the super market. But fish? She raised an eyebrow, shaking her head. Nope. Not yet, anyway.

"Ehh...I really don't eat....Meat or fish." Donat sheepishly mentioned, rubbing the back of his neck. "Mostly veggies for me."
