Everyone looks for something different in a game that they will enjoy..what do you look for? What makes a good game? What is the most important thing in a game?
For me I think a good game includes: - exciting gameplay that isn't repetative. - a good storyline that makes me care about the character I'm playing as. - action (I admit, I'm not interested in a game if I there isn't any action/violence or traps and stuff to kill the player) - decent characters that make you feel like you're playing as them rather than just a figure who you control. - and possibly something quirky..something that makes that game stand about above all others. - a difficulty level which provides some challenge but isn't too difficult. I don't like my games too hard or too easy.

It's interchangable. For example, most action games are relatively repetitive. But what helps, is if you're rewarded with cool cinematics and good character and story development throughout, then the repetitiveness isn't bad. I mean, I look at games like Dead Space, and if it actually had some decent story development, maybe I wouldn't have been so disappointed with it. But as it is, it's one of the most boring games I've ever played. It was a tedious grind fest. But that's an extreme example, that game would need like, a cinematic every five minutes to NOT seem like a grind fest.
But either way, I don't usually take interest in a game unless it has a stellar storyline. I have no doubt Bayonetta is gonna have some fun gameplay. But from what I've seen in the cinematic footage, the storyline in it is generic and boring. I'm not saying it has to be serious or deep, but I think they were going for campy and funny, and it just doesn't look funny. We'll see though.
The concept, too. I have to like the concept of the game. For example... Kingdom Hearts... It might have stellar gameplay mechanics, good graphics, strong cast of voice actors, all that good stuff. But a game about Disney Characters mingling with Final Fantasy characters doesn't interest me even a bit. And frankly, Mario games don't interest me either. Maybe some wonderful day, they're gonna make Mario an actual character, rather than just a mascot, and he's gonna have a whole bunch of dialogue, and there will be a Mario game with actual story and character development. But until then, as far as I'm concerned, Mario is an outdated concept.

what I look for a game mainly consists of: playability good gameplay a great story to back up the gameplay a voice cast that captures the essence of the characters and probably something to make it challenging yet rewarding.

I agree with you about Kingdom Hearts and Mario...while Kingdom Hearts seems to have something of a good storyline I'm just not interested in that type of game even though the gameplay may be good too. It depends on what style of game you like...sometimes all you want is fun so Mario games would suitable if you don't want anything more than that. For me though I dislike games like Mario etc. I mean, if you're into sports or driving games you wouldn't be looking for a great storyline.

reptitive ness is not always such a bad thing. as long as its done in the right way and is challenging or just fun in gerenal.....
i look for a game thats not impossible, too confusing, fun, interesting, good story, good characters, good ending(or you hope so) and good scenes. but just is over all fun.

For me though I dislike games like Mario etc. I mean, if you're into sports or driving games you wouldn't be looking for a great storyline. Another good example would be games like Oblivion and Fallout 3. What's the difference between them? Well, one is set in medieval times, while the other is set in a post nuclear war apocalyptic future. Oblivion didn't interest me a bit. But when you take the same mechanics and apply them to something post apocalyptic, which I love, Fallout 3 is one of my favorite games right now. Which brings up an interesting idea. I mean, people always try to do something new, something different. What I think is, they should take games of certain genres with common themes, and just change the themes on them. Imagine if there was a game like Grand Theft Auto, only it happens in far future, and you get to hijack spaceships and stuff. I'd definitely give it a try. Ryuna_08 reptitive ness is not always such a bad thing. as long as its done in the right way and is challenging or just fun in gerenal..... i look for a game thats not impossible, too confusing, fun, interesting, good story, good characters, good ending(or you hope so) and good scenes. but just is over all fun. Actually, speaking of Fallout 3. I was watching the making of, and they basically explained it like this. A game can be repetitive... But if you do your job right, the player won't even notice it. Oh, and yes, the ending... One of the things that really disappointed me about Assassin's Creed was the ending. It felt like such a slap in the face. No cool outro cinematic. No epic battle at the end. Nothing. It felt so incomplete. They got lucky. Because if the game sold poorly, their cliffhanger ending would've never got a sequel.

The things that I look for in a video game are:
-A good storyline - Good characters that are not stereotypical heroes or people who are always angry - Good voices or NO voices (I hate bad voice acting that sounds expressionless) -Decent game length! (I bought a great game once but for 4 hours of game play, it's not worth $30!) - Good music and lots of it! (I dislike games where there are like 5 or 6 songs for the whole thing!)

If a game is good enough, and it's only 4 hours, then you should find yourself replaying it time and again. There's certain 4 hour games that I've beaten over 30 times and counting.

Armor and weapons that appear on your character. Good loot system, colored items just trigger certain endorphins for me. A skill tree or two. Randomized levels/equipment/anthing Story isnt important.

naked ladies. Or as close as possible, like Rikku in a bikini thing. Out of all the computer game character i would sleep with Rikku from FF10-2, is at the top of my list, didn't like how she looked in FF10.
yes I have just took this thread down to my level.

- Highly explorable world. Debate-ably the most important aspect of a video game for me. I love love love it when I can get immersed in a video game world and just run around looking at things for hours. I love when there's little hidden nooks and caves. It just really puts me into the game when I can see someplace, and then walk there. Makes it feel so real. - Decent storyline. It doesn't have to be the BEST storyline ever. I'm not that picky - most game stories have a few things in them that I find interesting. As long as it's not too confusing to understand. - Good characters. Again, they don't have to be hugely original. I'll admit that I kind of fall for the tortured hero type, and the over-enthusiastic, easily excitable type, as well. They're the two biggest RPG MC cliche's, but I don't mind either of them. As long as I like playing the character and look forward to what the characters are going to say or do next. - Gameplay that is not too hard. I like a little bit of a challenge, but not something that I have to level up for hours for or anything. - Good game length. Nothing too long or too short. I like about 30 hours. Just perfect.

Yeah I agree with you on pretty much everything. If a game has great characters it makes it more enjoyable because it makes you want to take on the role of that character otherwise it's just a faceless person who you just happen to control. and yes, environment is a big thing. I really like games where you can roam around in your own time without it being linear..so you can explore everything. Assassin's Creed 2, Uncharted to some extent, and InFamous are my favourites.
