((Disclaimer: Visions of the Kirin which appear to Silarial in this swamp are not representatives of the actual characters. They are simply manifestations of Silarial's guilt/memories/fear. In no way am I trying to manipulate or control anyone else's Kirin. If you own a Kirin which appears here and are uncomfortable with the way they are portrayed, contact me and I will edit my post.)) Silarial had no response to Elune's question, and remained silent throughout the journey - for she was seeing things in the water which deeply disturbed her, things she did not wish to discuss. The rational side of her whispered that certain strange plants had definitely been burned in the fire, and her visions were a result of their smoke, too much of which she had inhaled -- and yet what she saw made her tremble, and wade a little closer to Elune.
Had she been alone, Silarial would never have made it out of the swamp.

She saw her children, left behind in the cold and wind and rain so long ago - except they were no longer eggs but foals, gazing balefully at her from beneath the surface; not healthy, lively foals, but emaciated and dull-eyed.
Why did you abandon us? They seemed to ask. Why did take our brother, but leave us behind?
I couldn't stay with you! She thought frantically, realising how feeble her excuse sounded. The sight of you was a reminder of shattered hope. Of days spent waiting in vain.
But what did we do to you?
And Silarial had no answer.

It was a while before she forgot not to look at the water, and this time there was Alucard. A tame Alucard with no blood dripping from his fangs, which were no longer fangs but normal Kirin teeth. Hadn't he been a vampire? Perhaps those teeth had simply been abnormally shaped, and she hadn't been right to think him a monster, a potential murderer even.
Where did you go? He asked, tilting his head in the enquiring fashion he always did as a foal. Mother-by-adoption, were we not friends? What friend leaves another behind without so much as a by-your-leave?
You were a threat to my children, she replied, with a good deal more conviction. I couldn't trust you, not even after raising you from the egg.
Which children? The ones you left shortly after birthing? Surely you turned out the bigger threat to them than I did.
And Silarial had no answer.

The last one she saw was Thanatos, glorious as she last remembered him - handsome, tall, strong - and yet there was this look of confusion on his face, one she had never seen before. Was that really her son? Hadn't he always been glad to see her?
Four years, love, she exclaimed to him. And I will see you again. You will show me my grandchildren, will you not?
... Who are you? He asked, coldly, stabbing her through the heart with three simple words. What are the four years you speak of? Do I know you?
But you're my son... we agreed... when you left...
His back was towards her, and he was disappearing into the far distance - leaving her as she herself had nearly left him.

A mare clearly under duress but still quietly determined had entered the swamp with her friend; but a shattered one was now exiting it. The only reason she was still pushing herself onwards was that she did not wish to leave another Kirin -- the lovely peacock mare she was travelling with right now.
"Anywhere," she answered quietly. "It matters not. I will follow where you lead me."
