I dropped a drawer on my left big toe once. It was disgusting, had to cut off the nail and it was all blue and ewwwww for about a month.

I once got my toe crushed under a Lay-z-Boy rocking chair when I was 5. The nail was removed, stiches were in place, the nail was put back on, and it fell off again. gonk
And that sounds incredible amounts of unpleasant, Blasten.

Actually, it is possible for them to get tangled. It would cause one of them to swell up (due to the massive amount of pressure), and it would eventually have to be surgically removed.
You're probably fine, though.
