Enli grunted as his feet sunk into the mud.
Yesterdays rain imprinted itself on the territory as he played the role of scout, roaming the outskirts of YMCA for what was the worst hour of his life. Enli liked to be a little messy, fur slicked up in an attractive way, but hated being filthy. He liked to think he was looking rugged and cool romping about hunting the rabbits or fawns of the forest, mounting the fallen logs toppled by beavers or the weather, but never truly liked to sludge in the silt; it just didn’t seem proper. His fur colors aided in covering the grime but…what better way to hide the ugly than to avoid it?
He couldn’t tonight of course, having signed his life away to this pack. (Though he had freedom to leave when/if he chose.) They were so kind to him, and their intentions for the future seemed pure enough for the wolf to stick around. Enli needed security; it was something he often couldn’t go without when it came around. So he walked, doing his duty though his features crumpled as if in pain.

Chivosi did not seem to have the same problems with the rain and its resulting hinderence as Enli did, she scampered through the mud more like a pup then an adult wolf a serene expression on her face as she danced lightfootedly across the mud going - well who knows really?
She was humming slightly to herself when a flash of green caught her eye, Enli? probably out patrolling she thought to herself and changing course she headed in his direction.
"well.." she exclaimed as she came across him with a smile on her face "you look completely miserable out here"

Enli was preoccupied, moving forward toward the oncoming alpha and was startled as her jumpy form came out from its camouflage. "Oh!" He yelped, freezing for a moment having thought she were an enemy.
"Uh, wow. Hey, you must have been down wind because I didn't pick you up." he laughed nervously, relaxing his shoulders back into a comfortable position. Her statement strangled his desire to be miserable, not wanting Chivosi to assume he loathed being here, and after making it clear he wasn't completely scouting and protecting the land (simply by noting he had not seen her) the male tried to lighten his expression with a timid grin.
"It's just the mud. I'm really not in a bad mood, just hate the mud." shuffling a bit, Enli removed himself from a shallow pit of soft soil and perched now on a very large, flat rock. It didn't help much, the dirt still clung to his paws and rose up near each elbow, the warmth making him shiver in disgust.
"So, uh...what are you doing out?" he questioned, seconds after continuing, "Not that it is any of my business. You do what you please...just, curious."
There. Cover my bases.

Chiv seemed somewhat amused at having startled him and wagged her tail slightly in an attempt to waylay any nerves he might be feeling being beset upon by an Alpha. Chiv was quickly noticing the change in the way wolves reacted to her now...well except for Merrill...and Mene, and while she understood the reactions - she truly didn't want her pack mates to be nervous around her. Chiv was too kind hearted for that.
"It can be problematic" she agreed glancing briefly at the mud coating his legs and well aware that she herself must be in a similar state. "Makes you glad we have a river to clean up in later" she continued with a smile.
"I was just...roaming I suppose, keeping an eye out for promising game signs and trails - we ought to have a pack hunt soon I think, get everyone working together well..build camaraderie and such things as Merrill would say"

"Ohh" Enli remarked without thinking, drawing his head back in a fit of shock. "I didn't mean for it to sound like that. A hunt sounds--interesting, at the very least."
In actuality he did mean it in the way he said. Friendly, yes, loving, yes, however cooperative with a large group of strangers? Even if they were only temporary strangers? The idea made his body convulse worse than the mud. Luckily, one offset the other and so he hoped Chiv would not be able to read the mixed signals.
But in the end Enli would be fine with the pack joining together for some sport. Certainly it would do some good for the male, who despite his loner tendencies was most definitely craving attention of some sort. Wagging his tail finally in response to her own, Enli spoke again.
"I don't know if I will have time myself to attend, seeing as these lands need plenty of guarding. Especially with whatever youth is to come, but I will make certain to get in on any festivities you decide to host."
