The sun was rising slowly through the trees, patchy clouds already in the sky becoming a pinky hue from the sunrise. Spectrum was awake, and had been for a while. Aliana was gone. She'd just...left. When he'd woken a few days ago to the spot next to him empty, he'd thought for sure she had taken the pups and run.
But, she hadn't.
She'd run and left the pups with him. Were they not good enough to take with her, because they were part of him? Spectrum, for the first time in many years, had gotten angry. Moving the only just old enough pups away from the den Aliana had found to nurture them in, he'd returned them to the shrine he'd claimed as his own home.
The shrine was old and falling apart, probably not the safest place with young babes but it was Spectrum's home and he wanted his pups raised there.
His pups. Not theirs, not ours, not anyone else's. His.
Sighing, Spectrum laid his head down and stared at his babies, what were they going to do? He didn't know how to take care of pups, he'd never even been around them before!
At least they were old enough to eat meat now though. Aliana had nursed them as long as necessary before she'd left.
Spectrum shifted, curling around his pups and moving them close to his side, watching the sun rise alone.
He missed his Ali, but he had his pups. It would do.
It had to.

Fáelán woke when his father moved over to them, curling around them protectively. He whined softly, opening his eyes to stare up at Spectrum but he was looking off into the distance.
Yawning and stretching quietly, making sure not to disturb their father from his thoughts, he shifted and laid his head on his baby brother's side, using his pink furred body as a makeshift pillow. He nuzzled the fur, wondering if Sato was even awake yet. Lazy boy, he thought, his own eyes drifting closed again.
Fáelán had noticed their mother's absence from their lives with a sort of detachment. Had they even been close? Of course they had, Aliana was his mother and Fáelán loved her. It was just...when she'd left, Spectrum had almost self-imploded. He was still happy and fun and he still loved Fáelán and Sato but it was different now. Spectrum had sad eyes, no matter how much he laughed.
Shifting and trying to shake off those thoughts, Fáelán nudged Sato gentled, "You awake, 'to?" He murmured sleepily, shorting the already short name out of laziness.

The pink pup stirred slightly in his sleep as his father curled around both him and his brother. His dreams were pleasant; he didn't want to wake. It wasn't until he felt a light weight on his side, that he awoke. Bleary eyes flitted open, glancing first up at his father. He had noticed a change in Spectrum's attitude, since the departure of their mother. The first day she left, Sato just tried to think she was out hunting, or something. But it became clear she had left... Left them all behind. The truth was hard to take, after all.. But he was positive she would return; he refused to give up that hope.

Sato glanced sleepily at the blue form of Fáelán. A smile crossed his face, as he snuggled up closer to his big brother, his eyes fluttering shut once more. Sleep had almost overtaken the pink-toned pup, just as Fáelán's voice reached his ears, feeling the soft nudge on his side, yawning quietly. "Mhm.."

Fáelán's eyes were just drifting closed again when Sato responded to his question, yawning in return. “You're so lazy,” he teased sleepily without malice. Yawning and flopping his head down on his brothers shoulder instead. “Did you sleep well?” He asked, eyes slipping closed though he was trying to stay awake for good this time. Unfortunately, Fáelán never woke immediately. It took him a while to get his head together upon waking, especially when it was warm and the day was already fast heating up as the sun slipped fully into the sky. Stretching lazily, Fáelán pushed himself up to his feet, startling Spectrum who hadn't heard they're whispered conversation.

Fáelán!” Spectrum yelped, eyes widening as he realized his son was awake. “What are you doing up?” He frowned, looking childish as he tilted his head to the side and nudged his son softly. “Go back to sleep now. It's not time to get up yet. You need to sleep. You're a pup, you need lots of sleep.” Spectrum glanced over at Sato, a bemused look on his face as he realised his other son was awake too, sort of. Leaning over, he nuzzled the young pink hued boy. “Go back to sleep, little one. Both of you,” he gave Fáelán a pointed look as he spoke.

"Am not.." Sato whined sleepily, before yawning quietly. He smiled as he felt Fáelán move. "Mhm.. Did you?" He asked quietly, though his eyes stayed stayed closed. Sleep was edging upon him, to carry him back to those warm and pleasant dreams. Though his eyes slowly fluttered open, feeling the warmth next to him leave as he watched his older brother stand. Sato's gaze switched to his startled father, a sleep-tinged bright smile adorning his face as he nuzzled Spectrum back. Fumbling slightly over his own feet, he managed to finally grasp his bearings and sit up. "But it's morning.."

Fáelán smiled at his sleepy baby brother, eyes half-opened as he murmured, “I always sleep well, Sato.” As he stood, he shivered a little from the removal of the bodyheat of both relatives, despite it wasn't even cold. The temperature was now pleasantly warm and made him want to smile at the heat. As his father began to fuss over him, he rolled his eyes, stumbling a little when his father nudged him to get him back down. “I'm not tired, Father! I mean, the sun is up. I want to be up too,” he protested, leaning over as Sato stumbled to try and keep him balanced affectionately. “See, even Sato's up!”

Spectrum smiled lovingly at his youngest as his back was nuzzled, returning it happily and licking down a stray patch of fur on the top of the pup. Glancing at his eldest, he looked a little flustered as his son's protested. “You're young! When I was little, I slept until noon. You're going to exhaust himself!” He had no idea what he was doing when it came to his two. What was the usual amount of sleep? Should they be hunting their own food? Were they old enough to go off on their own? He just didn't know. He stood up as well, glancing down at Sato in amusement. “He's up, but he's not awake yet.” He laughed softly, his eyes lighting up in a way that made them sparkle. He sighed, “alright, since you're both awake, do you want to go down to the waterfall? You can swim in the shallow end of the pond and I can catch some fish for breakfast.”

Sato smiled happily at the returned affection from Spectrum, finally awakening as he felt Fáelán help support him up. "Thanks Fáe." He mumbled, as he pulled himself up to his feet. The younger boy stretched, his tail swaying happily. "But we're not tired anymore, dad." He chirped up, any sign of sleep were gone, replaced by the bright cheer. Once he heard his father laugh, to see that sparkle in his eyes, Sato beamed at his brother. The idea of swimming seemed to excite him further. "Yeah! Let's go!"

Spectrum sighed as both his son's protested about sleeping. “Alright, alright, since you're both awake.” He waited until they were both upright, he laughed softly at their sleepy behaviour. Nuzzling them, he nudged them towards the edge of the shrine, leading them down the ledge which was the safe way of stepping off the shrine. “Alright, follow me, and follow closely. I don't want you guys getting lost,” he said, waiting until they were both off the shrine before stepping carefully through the forest, leading them towards the waterfall which was nearby. A pang hit him, making it hard to breathe. It had been Aliana's favourite spots. His shoulders slumped as he walked.

Fáelán waited until Sato went down the ledge behind Spectrum, making sure that Sato stayed safe. His eyes were sparkling in joy as he thought about jumping into the lake. ”Be careful walking down the ledge,” he called out softly to Sato, before following him down, slipping a little at the end. He followed Spectrum happily, tail flicking eagerly. His eyes lit up when he spotted the waterfal. “Race you there,” he called to Sato, bolting ahead. His pup side came out, a rare glimpse of a childish attitude. He reached the lake and jumped in, in the shallow part rather then the deeper part he would have liked to. He could hear his father called out in horror but he laughed at waited for his brother to join him.

Sato smiled brightly as he followed his father obidiently, clambering down the ledge of the shrine slowly. He didn't want to get hurt. Blood was just... Ew. Out of curiousity, he glanced up at Spectrum. Was it just him or did his papa look a little more.. glum then he had? There wasn't much time to contemplate it, as his brother called out to him, racing ahead. "No fair!" He laughed as he dodged around his startled father, running after his older brother. Once he hit the ledge, Sato jumped in after Fáelán, laughing as he broke through the water's surface.

Fáelán laughed as his brother broke the water beside him, flicking out a paw to splash him lightly. The water wasn't overly deep but they couldn't touch the ground if they went out a little further. Fáelán, just to be safe, stayed where he could touch the floor with his toes if he needed too, though it was just deep enough that he could paddle a little. “It was so fair, you just reacted too slowly,” he teased, splashing his brother again.

Spectrum sighed as he padded over to the water's edge, staring down at his two boys. “You two are hopeless,” he huffed. “I told you to stop but you just went charging in anyway!” He eyed them, but they were both so adorable, he soon caved. “Stay in the shallow end, please. I'll just be over here getting some fish.” He smiled down at them. “Enjoy yourselves, okay?” He didn't want them to grow up unhappily. He wanted them to laugh and have fun and be wonderfully happy pups. They deserved it. Shooting them another smile, he padded off towards the deeper end of the lake. There were a few fish swimming around and he dropped himself down next to it. It took a while before a fish swam close enough but when it did, he dropped a paw down and easily flicked the fish out onto the land. He killed it straight away, seeing no point in leaving it to suffer needlessly. Dropping it down further away from the lake, he went back to get more. Glancing down to make sure his pups were still happy, he smiled. 'You should see them, Ali,' he thought softly, 'our boys are wonderful. I just wish you cared.'

Sato giggled as he was splashed, moving to avoid it. Though that only succeeded in his resubmergence into the water. He shifted to a shallower part, feeling uncomfortable in deeper waters. He grinned, retaliating by splashing back at Fáelán. His attention shifted, glancing up at Spectrum. "Okay, papa!" The young pink male beamed, before turning back towards his older brother. He shifted in the water, making sure to get a better foot hold.

Fáelán laughed as his brother returned the splash, tilting his face away so it wouldn't get water up his nose at least. He grinned at his father as well, watching him walk away. Splashing his brother, he kept an eye on his father, watching him watch them. The sad look in his father's eyes always concerned Fáelán. It wasn't his fault, but it made Fáelán feel guilty.
Shaking his head to dispell the thoughts, he turned back to his brother. He smiled at him, before submerging himself in water and ducking under his brothers legs only to stand up beneath him, hopefully knocking him over.

Spectrum caught two more fish easily, the third fish giving him trouble by swimming just out of his reach from his spot on the land. Glancing at his boys to make sure they were distracted, the male slipped into the water easily, his blue colouring helping him to blend in a little in the water. He stalked the fish beneath the water, as soon as he was close enough, he snapped his jaws down around it, breaking the surface with it firmly held in his mouth. Smirking around his catch, he crawled out of the water with a little difficulty before shaking the water off his fur. Ignoring the way his fur fluffed out, he dropped the dead fish with the other three, staring down at his catch happily. It was enough for the pups at least, but Spectrum wasn't hungry, so it was a good feed for them. He glanced over at them playing together in the water, he knew they wouldn't get to go back in after eating, so he sat down next to the fish and began to clean himself, allowing them to play a little longer.
