My boyfriend and I have been going out for a year. He started investigating the Church over the summer. He's even talked to the missionaries. His father is okay with it, but his mother keeps trying to convince him that the Church is evil and wrong and won't let him join. It's something that he really wants to do, but his mother won't let him, and he's getting really upset about it. What should we do?

if his mother is that immovable (just like mine...bummer) then he should figure out the virtue of patience. it's been bittersweet for me. i can't be baptised til i turn 18. i'm 17 now, i recieved the gospel when i was 16 1/2. but yes, prayer is always, ALWAYS good. if he absolutely has to wait, i found something that helped me immensely. find a way to get him a blessing.

also, find out WHY his mother is so against it. i mean, does she HONESTLY believe that we are evil? try to instill some LOGIC into her. and UNDERSTANDING. knowledge is power. methinks she has a bad case of "fear of the unknown". 3nodding

hmmm... big surprise that LDSeraphim answered that.

If something is going to happen, it will happen. not even parents can stop a child when they feel they are doing the right thing.

Now see, I'm the the same situation as you, but it's my little sister. My mother was born LDS, but then she left the church for a few years, and during that time, she had a child with my father who I personally don't think believes in God at all. He let Katie get baptized, and then I got baptized, but my little sister his his sweet little angel, and he feels that our church "controls our life", so he said he won't let my little sister get baptized. I've talked to my friends and church leaders about it, and they basically said this: Pray, fast, and stay true to your faith. Although ignorance is common among non-members when it comes to our church, we need to just show that we will stay strong to matter what the situation is. Who knows, maybe they'll be impacted through the situation as well.
