Where is Faerun? Thats not so simple to answer. First we have to Begin with a very broad view of the realms "Realms space"
This is the Material plane of the Forgotten Realms, or "realmspace" But why are we here you ask? To find a small green planet orbiting the great star of this solar system. a small green planet named "Abeir-Toril", or simply "Toril" by the elder scholars. Lets have a closer look:
Abeir-Toril Is the third planet closest to the Solar-Star. It is circled by a great moon called "Selune" after the moon goddess And is always followed by a cluster of meteors called "The tears of Selune"
Abeir-Toril, or even just Toril is not an every-day word, infact less then 1% of Toril's population even know the true-name of their own planet, nor do they need to. They are too concerned with the concerns of Toril to even concider thinking about what lies beyond.
Lets have a closer look at Toril:
Here we have a world-map of Toril, you can see four main Continents numbered. These are: 1) Faerun 2) Kara-Tur 3) Zakhara 4) Maztica
Kara-Tur: This is the basis of "oriental Adventures" drawing heavily from Asian cultures.
Zakhara: The great desert of the middle east. the "Al-qadim" Setting, A continent based upon "Arabian nights"
Maztica: the "New world" Is heavily based upon south-america and the Aztec empires
And finally we reach. Faerun:
Faerun is a muddling of most things. At its base you will find a european-based continent with knights and magic. But you will also find that people and cultures from the other three continents have begun to bleed into the edges, creating a unique home for adventure
