Character Name: Gillyn ((Jil-ly-en)
Nicknames: Jill
Age: 25
Race: Elven
Gender: Female
Appearance Gillyn is a small girl for her age. She stands much shorter then the average human of the same age. She stands around five feet tall, to name a number, but she hasn’t let herself be measured in years, so that height could be off. The most obvious thing that people notice about her, at least at first, is her hair. Very dark auburn locks fall from her head, almost completely straight with some slight wave to her hair. It falls down past her waist when loose, and most of the time it is. An odd thing that she typically does when she has her hair in any sort of display is that she will almost always have some of it falling over her ears, covering almost all of her ears, if not all of it. Her blue eyes are rather bright and friendly at times, but those with any skills in observation will notice that they tend to cloud over, or they seem to become unfocused, lost almost. As if she’s trying to remember where she left something she lost…

Her clothing is pretty simple, and not exactly that which you would find on a young woman. Gillyn tends to wear simple, baggy clothing that does its best to distort her form. It would be more suited to a young man, and if it wasn’t for her face and hair one might even think that she was a boy. Maybe even some people have mistaken her for a young man with long hair. The clothing of her choice is typically of a more earthly color, browns, greens, and the like. There is also the very obvious sign of a black leather strap around her neck, like some sort of necklace or the like hanging, but it would not be presented to anyone… Or, hardly anyone.

Personality: The easiest word to describe Gillyn is skittish. She seems to be scared of her own shadow almost. The slightest unexpected noise seems to make her jump, her eyes wide with a trace of nightmares come to life. Her movements are always slow, deliberate at times, as if stepping on the wrong thing will cause some vile trap to activate. Large crowds seem to startle her away from them, trying to find the best way around them.

Though, when the time comes to actually interacting with people, Gillyn seems to have a very strong leaning towards females. They seem to be much easier for her communicate, or at least, seem willing to communicate with. Children also seem to be a soft spot for her, since one might see her spending a significant part of her day observing or watching over children, if given the change. Men are a different story. Once they have passed close enough to adulthood, it seems as if Gillyn has a very negative reaction to them. Extraordinarily friendly or handsome men seem to double the effect, making her push them away from her anyway possible, and out right flee if given no other choice on the matter.

Despite all this, if left alone, Gillyn has a curious mind that she can not leave sit, and will wander around, looking around, and poke her nose into all sorts of drawers, shelves, wallets, you name it. If it is locked, she will wonder what is inside it, and slowly she will be devoured by her curiousity to sneak over to the lock, and attempt to use her powers to unlock the door, which she has learned over her journeys isn’t that hard.

Fears: Gillyn is claustrophobic. Violently so. If she is locked in a place with hardly any space she will freak out, losing any and all self control lashing out at whatever she can to get free. Also, a bit along the same lines is a fear of being restrained or held down against her will.

Special Abilities Gillyn is basically a very focused Elemental Mage. She can only control one element; Earth. This ability though, is all instinct with a little learning thrown in. It is not something that can be easily taught to her or by her to another person. Since it is as simple as breathing to Gillyn, its not like she can transplant the knowledge into someone else’s head. This is the form of changing the structure of anything that is considered “Natural.” Metals, rocks, sand, gravel, plants, things like that are all under her ability to shape, change, and move. The less synthetic the material, the better she can work with it. Raw copper, straight from the mine is a thousand times easier for her to shape then something that has been worked over and over again like steel. For plants, she can accelerate their growth exponentially, causing what was only a seed to grow into a flower in minutes, a mature tree in hours. Working with stone is a bit harder, but she can do it one of two ways, either accurately, and slowly, or quickly, and rough. The effects of the rough stone shaping is more or less creating a rather large block, spike, wall, whatever shooting out of the ground. Metals are a lot harder for her to work with, taking hours at a time for only a minor change in the metal. As such, Gillyn tends to ignore metals unless she has no other choice.

History/Bio: Gillyn was third born in a family with five children. Her parents had been city people, or so they claimed. They had moved to Durem for a short time, and then quickly left after getting married. Moving far from their old hunting grounds, they hoped to keep their children safe from any harm, be it their old employers or others looking for revenge. They never really talked to their children about the life they had spend there, but didn’t talk about it often. When they did, it was more harmless stories, leaving their children to assume either fantastically wild stories about what they had done, or boring, everyday lives. The two had kept any special abilities that they could under control and under cover, so no one could think they were anything but ordinary.

Though, that didn’t mean that their children wouldn’t manifest powers. Gillyn, the final girl out of the two was born into the family, and was in every way her mother’s image. But, while she had the features of her mother, at the age of five, the parents soon discovered their little girl took after her father. She was just as talented as he was in the manipulation of Earth, just without the experience to use it as creatively as he did. Nor was she quite as fast, but that would come in time as she practiced her abilities.

The village that her parents had moved to was not used to there being unexpected events happening. The most unexpected event happening in years was the sudden arrival of the family and their starting to farm. Though, unknown to the Elven parents, there was no love lost between the villagers and elves… It didn’t help that Gillyn’s father used his powers to assist in his farming, often out producing the local farmers… Unknowingly he pushed them farther and father away. Eventually, the bad blood came to a boil, and everything broke loose.

Lost in a fog, Gillyn left the burned building she had called a home, her bare feet carrying her away from the remains of the farm. Torn, bloodied clothing barely covered her form as she wandered away from the village, walking slowly down the road. A friendly merchant found her, several days later, and managed to bring her back to health. With a change of clothing, and some spare change, the merchant was unable to stop the girl from leaving him in the middle of the night. She was thankful to him, but was never able to express it. Her time with him had been… Quiet.

Wandering the roads for years, Gillyn was spurred on by a memory… The words of her father, and the necklace he always wore. “If you are ever in serious trouble… Seek out the Shinagami Clan. Show them this symbol, draw it, make it, whatever you have to do, and they will help you.” He had told her one day, after she had asked about the necklace. Never told where exactly to find them, it made her travels long, difficult, and rather painful. Eventually, that search lead her to Durem, after what seemed like lifetimes of walking.
