Okay, so we had a pep rally today and while me and everyone else in the band were sitting there and we realized that of ALL the people sitting in the bleachers watching the cheerleaders cheer and the band play and the dancers dance and stuff, everyone was cheering on everyone BUT the band! I mean we spend more time practicing than everyone else, we're always playing, making sure they get to have an exciting, music-filled pep rally and all they can do is cheer on everyone else! I have to say thank you too the football team they had enough decency to say "you rock band!" and "you did good!" after the pep rally while they were walking by us, to leave. But really! Without us the pep rallies would be silent and dead! I mean for all the years I've been in Middle school NEVER have I seen the band win the spirit stick! And we're sometimes the most spirited! I mean sure the dance team is okay but REALLY all they do is kick again and again, LITERALLY! The band doesn't get enough appreciation from everyone, it really gets on my nerves! Sorry with the fact that I am now ranting but at least SOME of you can say the same and agree right?

YES! I'm not supposed to have PE this year b/c of marching, but I do anyways. So my friend was all "You're so lucky that your team didn't have to do 10 pushups!" [we won a game so all the other teams had to do pushups] So I said "Yeah, well I get to do over ten push ups in band and run a half mile every morning! And that's not even including our run-throughs! So you can stop whining..."
Nobody seems to get how difficult band can really be. Like you said, all the cheerleaders and dancers get all the attention, which is good for them, but seriously? Band is just as amazing...
And I rant too! So it's okay!

That is like our school. Our cheerleaders suck,a nd yet everyone likes them. Yet, when we go on I'm pretty sure they talk loud on purpose, and yet we are better then the cheerleaders. and apparently, it is a crime to cheer at our football games. We do anyway, but the cheerleaders always get mad. And we are never on the announcements, they never annnounce our festivals, we barely get one page of the yearbook, and we are only recognized with respect by the football players. Cheerleaders hate us, but they act like they like us for show. The only ones who actually realize how hard we work is a few of the football palyers. They realize that we aren't just walking around the field. They realize we are out earlier til later for our rehearsals. So, yeah

Exactly! Everyone in our band is like: You're lucky, band isn't hard AT ALL.
I just look at them funny and say "You wouldn't last 3 minutes at band camp." xD
Which is true. Stupid people don't understand. >>

We have that deal with the yearbook too. Dance gets at least 5 pages, same with cheer. Band gets two pages, and that's just to be able to fit in all the group photos from concert and marching band. No descriptions or paragraphs about how 'fabulous' we are. : P
Thing is, my section leader is on the dance team, and she is pretty amazing. So I guess it's not all of them, but most...

It's kinda funny cause our school band is a National championship marching band (Crestwood Scarlett guard) and the band is worked so hard form practice, many of them ,including my girlfriend have 6 pack abs and muscles from it.

I know what you mean, and I sympathize with you. Seriously, The Band here at Mayfair High School (Including me), we've been working our butts off, sometimes staying 10+ hours on Saturdays and Sundays to work on our stuff, and we've been working so hard because tomorrow we have to do our parade march at the Los Angeles County fair to try to get into the Rose Parade. And what do we get from the other kids? "Oh, band is so easy, because all you have to do is sit there and blow through a pipe." It pisses me off whenever I hear that, because we go out onto the field and we bust our butts off to make our school proud. If we go to the 2011 Rose Parade, people won't remember Mayfair's football team, nor their cheerleaders! They'll remember us for our band. We work harder than anyone on that campus, just to have people make comments like those .

That's the good thing about college band, I think people like you a bit more. xD
I never got the "band is so easy lol" thing though...actually, I was talking to someone about it and she was like "So you have to memorize your music and memorize all those moves? And do it all in a week?! HOWWWW"

Meh our band didn't get a ton of respect. But honestly. Who cares? You put your had effort in doing something you love. Doesn't matter if people care what you do or not. It's the great feeling you get with your friends there and the things you accomplish

yea thats really not cool but im in middle school and i have not gotten that kind of stuff all i get is why are you in band its sooo stupid (im also in choir)so me and my friends are doing something about we are gunna get our principle to do a pep rally for us music people where the choir would sing then the band would play cause our concerts are after school and nobody goes to them we just want to be recognized.

I haven't had that problme since sophomore year (I'm a high school senior), but it was pretty bad back then. My school, Freedom High School, is new, and it was the fourth year it was opened. We earned our first superior that year at Festival, and we killed the competition on our band trips. In one year, we had more trophies than the football team's ever gotten. And what do we get? Total exclusion from the music page in the yearbook and the BD's job bumped to part time.
Things did get better, though.

A few weeks ago our BDs had a meeting with the administartors of the school district. They basically told him our band sucks and we cant perform our competiton show anymore at home games because its not entertaining enough for the crowd who couldnt give a crap about us anyways. And hes not doing an adiquite(sp?) job teaching us, which hes the best and we all love him. So last saturday at our first competiton when we sucked it up on accident he apoligized and said its his fault and we all said no its not. Bus one had an emotional trip home with him that night. Hes the best. The football players and cheer leaders disrepect us. The teachers never say "Hey you rocked friday night" We never get recognized on the morning announcements. I was shocked that for our first comp they said "Congratulations Pride of Piqua marching band for their second place award at Bellbrook saturday" Its so stupid how looked down upon the band is. I have never once seen a teacher at our band competiton we hold every september. Its so stupid. But what really got me is what the admins said to our head BD. And after last saturday Mahaney realized why he loves us so much. Band is a big deal. And everybody thinks its so stupid. I hate football players and cheerleaders.

My school has its own fair share of idiots as well as people who have a good idea about how hard band is.
One of the seniors told me about one year when it was so hot during band camp, that the gallons of water she drank were all sweated out. The good thing is that everyone lost a lot of weight that year. Sure, it's miserable conditions, but at least you're losing weight and getting into good shape doing something that you love.
