In the dark of night, when no moon came to shine its light, a pair of rabbits sat on the top of the down. At one angle, another rabbit would see a pair of calm, blue lights, like fireflies...on the other side, a pair of horrible suns pierced the night like an arrow. Pitchweed was not any older then his sister, but he was slightly bigger. He had a milkweed, a rare treat of flayrah, in his paws and was using his paws to rip it open so he and his sister could feast alone. He chewed thoughtfully, blinking at her every now and then. She was all he had. His mother had been blessed with a tiny litter that year and, pregnant with her next bunch in the following spring, she had fallen prey to a Homba. He didn't say he missed her, but she did provide for them. But since, he had lived, slept and flayed with his sister, their foul little minds almost merging into one. He went back to his silflay, a rabbit of few words around anyone but Wildwood. "Wildwood. I thirst. Perhaps we could go down and find a nice..."

"Drink from a puddle or hlao. I hear no Elil, I think it will be safe if we go together."
Wildwood chimed in quietly from her brother's side. She was certainly one to be reckoned with, though she was by no means massive. Her brother dwarfed her slightly and she was about average for a wild rabbit, though there seemed to be something odd about her.
She, too, missed their mother and they were not old, though they were not considered young at all. They had left their outskirter seasons by a few moons. She had seemed lost in thought at the time, but matched her brother's thoughts perfectly aloud after swallowing a nibble of the milkweed.
"Bracken-rah, I think, made a..."

"rather large mistake with the diseased curs? I couldn't agree more, sister." He loped down the embankment, to where last night's rain had collected in a large ditch. He approached with caution, leaping back in fear as a large frog leaped from the mucky water. He shook himself off and then lowered his head to drink. It was bitter, but cool and refreshing. "I really think someone needs to teach..."

"That doltish Chief a lesson, yes I suspect we share the opinion deeply. Those filthy creatures could of easily brought death to us. You saw... "
Her soft voice trailed off as she peered into the murky, muddy water that had gathered in the small, water filled indention. The frog had frightened her and her ears flattened against her creamy, dark hued pelt, but she was steadily recovering and inched near to lap up the cool and refreshing water.

"how the ill not only perished under his reign, but how an innocent little outskirter stopped running." he nodded. "Its a tragedy, but that crotchety old rabbit hardly seems to..."
He continued to lap until the mud caked his nose and he cleaned a moment, then paused, ears perked. He heard a rustle and perched erectly.

"Care for the current state of affairs. Cocklebur had the right idea. We are fortunate that he did not stop running in yon scrapes, as well." She finished and sat silently for a moment, after grooming away the mud that had collected on her little, white nose.
Her ears popped up, erect, at the sounds her brother heard. Her heart skipped a beat and she stood perfectly still, panic creeping to her mind. What if it wasn't safe, after all?

He watched as a small, pale rabbit slid through the grasses across the bank. Sand...piper, maybe? Was that her name? What was she doing here? Had she been eavesdropping?!
She cleaned her ears a moment, then loped slowly to the water and took a soft drink, her eyes fixed on them.
Pitchweed narrowed his eyes at her. "Look sister, its a little..."

"Little, lost kitten?" She chuckled as she spoke in an amused tone, looking over the small rabbit that had approached them.
She raised herself tall, standing on her haunches, and quickly drank in their surroundings with her mismatched eyes. Nothing seemed out of place. They would be safe for a little while yet and she wasn't too worried about any interference.
"Lost, alone, abandoned, little hlessi. Why are you so far away from your real warren? Perhaps you ought to go back. You should. You aren't wanted here."

Coming up beside her, her brother copied her position, their amber eyes closest together. He showed his teeth. "Yes, little sandworm. Crawl back to them and feast on your elilflay." He then bulged his eyes and pawed his throat. "No! Sister! The elilflay! Its got me!"
Sandbur's ears flicked back but she said nothing. She leaped the small path of water, to go past them and back to her warren. "I'm not looking for trouble." she said, her voice quivering.

"Brother! Brother, you too?" A mock look of surprise crossed her face as she stumbled back on her hind legs. She crossed her eyes the best she could and her entire body went rigid, as if she were tharn. She fell over on her side and kicked all four paws frantically, all of this after the former hlessi had spoken.
"The horrible elilflay! It's killing us! Beware!"
Then, as swiftly as she fell over, she was on all four paws again. "What was that you said? You want trouble?"

Pitchweed gave short gruffaws of laughter at his sister's cruel antics. Sandbur's eyes burned with hatred, but she slowly tried to lope past. She was blocked by the large male, who stared her down. "I said I'm not looking for trouble." "She said she's looking for trouble, sister! Must be the hlessi blood in her." "I have as much right to live here as you do. Let me pass." she put her ears up, glaring.

"Right? What is this about right?"
The doe slid up beside her brother, standing tall to tower on the opposite side of the doe they had chosen to target. Ah, this was certainly fun! Besides, why would they need more hlessi in the warren? It was already huge and with the addition of the diseased, many of them could of lost their lives. Rage boiled beneath her fur, but she only smiled tauntingly.
"You let your warren die! While we, we were born and raised in this warren. It is ours. You are nothing but a filthy, lost, ungrateful little maggot. You need to run alone home and let this warren be."
