Keep in mind that the Lord Of The Rings 'fad' came many years ago. Before Twilight.

You could stick any two generic sues in a love story, slap sparkles on one of 'em and call it Twilight fanfiction, too. Not that surprising of a figure, to me. Kind of expected this during the whole height of the teenage vampire love fad thing.

LeNimph LOTR is a real piece of literature... those usualy don't do well with fanfics confused Which is actually a real shame and a really good thing. It proves that the story was nearly perfect. It balanced out the side romance, the main plot, a variety of morals, and bounded fantasy in a ligit way.
Good: Because you don't have as many idiots pretending they're dating these fictional *****> characters, or screwing with the story.
Sad: Because it also shows a serious lack of creativity on the "reader's" part (*cough* Twilight third grade level reading *cough cough*).
But maybe someone should or will open a guild to help encourage real literature in discussion or fan fictions or roleplay to encourage the love of actual works and out number the twi-fags.

Think about it for a second.
Twilight's fanbase is comprised of young, preteen-adolescent girls who grew up in the digital age and who feel the inexplicable need to insert themselves into Meyer's story or make some off-shoot of them in which Bella dies and they mend Edward's sparkling, broken heart. They also have much time on their hands between school and shopping at abercrombie(and Hot Topic, for their money-consuming little Twilight needs, unfortunately) Also, there are possibly some of those creepy housewives who might be into making fanfiction for the same reasons in between the kids' naptimes and soccer practice.
The fandom of LOTR is by and large a much more mature crowd, many of whose ages extend into the 90s and possibly beyond. They didn't grow up in the digital age and therefore are probably not into that newfangled Fanfiction crap. The younger LOTR fans are...just more mature. We're usually the ones who want to become writers ourselves. We have better things to be doing.
Also not to mention that LOTR was pretty darn satisifying when it comes to story resolution, so there's really no need for fanfiction as much as other stories that don't tie up loose ends. Aside from the obvious Mary-sue insertions to appease the more geeky hormonal girls(or the making of slashfics, of course), I'm betting that LOTR fanfics are just overall better quality.
Anyway, I'm not surprised. Any idiot with a computer can sit down and write a fanfic and put it up on that site. Doesn't mean any of it is good. Even if there are pages of it.

Think of it this way: There are less LOTR Fanfics because the fans are actually taking the time to write them.

Well, let's hope the fanfics are much better than the books itself.

Moon Shoes Potter Well, let's hope the fanfics are much better than the books itself. I doubt it. Seeing as most of the fans yell "OMGZ EDDYKINZ IS TOTALLY MY BOIFRIEND!!111!1ONEONEELLEVEN!11!"

I've noticed that every book fandom tends to have a unique trait about it. Harry Potter fans tend to be fantasy lovers where Lord Of The Rings folk tend to be more...er...'intellectual' to say the least. Tolkien's work is not the easiest to read and it is understandable that is had less fanfiction. Most of it's squealing fangirls briefly existed during and after the films were made and have moved on, leaving only those patient enough to read the books behind.
Twilight is simply this years 'Dark Knight' for fanfiction.net.

Seeing as most of the fans yell "OMGZ EDDYKINZ IS TOTALLY MY BOIFRIEND!!111!1ONEONEELLEVEN!11!"I read one that was decently written about Alice and Jasper. How they actually sacrificed themselves and never returned to the Cullens. I liked that. We don't have to listen to Bella ******** whine.
