I really doubt S.O.A.D. had more fans than Metallica.
I've never really been able to understand System's lyrics, and when I did hear the words, they made no sense. Except for Toxicity and Chop Suey!, possibly B.Y.O.B. Those are some of the few songs I like, along with ATWA and Aerials.
Metallica, though, are rock Gods to me. I've never heard a song by Metallica that I didn't like.
Other than them, I like Distrubed, Rob/White Zombie, Godsmack, some Korn a little Megadeth, Pantera, some Avenged 7X, and Dethklok.
You might not consider some of those Metal, but I'm just going off of how iTunes labeled them. If you go by F.Y.E.'s standards, I'd add Linkin Park to the list.

I'm actually not as much of a Metal fan as I used to be. I'm far more into Progressive Rock and all its subgenres than anything now.
But when I do listen to some Metal, it has to be some of the following...
Orphaned Land Dream Theater Queensryche Fates Warning Eucharist At the Gates Metal Church Amboog-a-Lard Powermad Dio Opeth Ayreon Star One Symphony X Morgion Solitude Aeturnus Candlemass Pentagram Legion (relatively unknown Traditional Heavy Metal band from New Jersey) Cathedral Agalloch Vanden Plas Pestilence
And a few more here and there.
