The borders were....odd. Almasi had never really been out so far. And she didn't see how they were dangerous. She lay on a rock that wasn't tall enough to see above the grass, her pale eyes watching the surroundings and her blue tail twitching back and forth. It was a nice day out, honestly, but the cub was just happy to be out on her own. She loved her family...but she could only handle so much....CHEERFUL. Especially Yakuti. She often felt like she'd melt near her sister.

Of course Mato didn't know he was on the invisible line that separated a pride from the Rougelands. He was just a cub, was he really supposed to know that? That was way, way too much information for his little brain to process. Right now, the pale pink and white male wanted friends besides his family. He was tired of his sisters and brothers. He wanted to fight new fights, argue with new lions, just have fun like a cub was supposed to.
That's why he wandered away from the protection of his traveling family. Good thing, too. Because now he was somewhere he didn't know! That was the only time you could ever do anything fun. In his opinion, anyway. Chasing a butterfly, he didn't really pay much attention to where he was going. Why bother? He'd pick up his scent later and follow it home. When the butterfly landed on a rock, Mateo's dark cyan eyes narrowed and he got in a crouching position, butt in the air, tail high, rump wiggling. Then, only then did he pounce with a little growl..... Only to have the butterfly move and made him headbutt the big rock.
A resounding thud could be heard a ways away as his skull connected with the damn thing, and he swore. He heard his momma use this word when she as in pain, so he said it too! "Damn it!" He flopped over on his side and whined, seeing double for a minute. "Never chase butterflies..... G-got it..

Almasi started a bit as the sound of someone hitting her rock, then cursing reached her ears. They went flat against her head as her pale eyes narrowed and she peeked over her rock, wondering who'd found her. And the sight of the pink...boy....below made her blink. How...odd. Well, he was another cub. What was the worst that could happen? After all, it wasn't like Almasi was small for her age. She was actually a little large.
The blue and white cub stood and jumped down, landing next to the other. "You aren't supposed to use that word, ya know. Not until you're older. And it's best to watch where you go. You won't end up hurt." Her voice was a bit monotonous, but had enough tone to it, along with the quirk of a brow, to realize she was amused.

A voice? What the hell? Was he dreaming? Blinking those big blue eyes of his, Mato whined as his vision cleared up to reveal... A blue... female. Oh queer! Jumping to his paws, which was a bad idea since he got dizzy and swaggered a bit, he let his vision clear again and then stared at her. Well! She was quite unique and her voice was silly! Giggling to himself, Mato shuffled around slowly, making sure he wouldn't agitate the bump that had already started to form on his head.
"My momma used it, why can't I?" He asked, not trying to be defiant, just curious. He rubbed at his nose with a big white paw and then sneezed twice in a row, which caused him to wince and whine again. Now, he wasn't making a very good impression at all! Straighting himself up, the cub gave her a smile and shrugged. "I wasn't goin' anywhere. Jus' chasin' a butterfly. I'm Matokea'kwa. Mato or Kwa for short. Who're you? What is this near? Is this a pride? Momma told me about them; large family like units that live together, hunt together. 's godda be interestin' an enteratain'! So many different others to interact with. You're lucky, Pride-Beauty!" Oh, dear. He was rattling off nonsense again without really letting her answer his questions. He had a horrible habit of doing that.

She blinked. And blinked some more. This was...odd. She tilted her head. "Because...It is a bad word. Adults can use it, but little ones like us aren't able to. I don't remember why...Miira explained it once." She sat, tail wrapping around her front legs.
"I'm Almasi-tifu. And you're in the Matembezi'wasakaji. Most of us are family...I have a lot of cousins and such. We have some that aren't related though." She blinked...then smiled slightly. "It is nice to meet you, Matokea'kwa."

He chuckled a bit more and shook his head at her monotonousness tone. Oh, well. Some people were just like that, it seemed. Hardly anything bothered this little male! Tail wagging happily behind him, he moved and pawed at her nose, wanting to play with her. "Let's play, let's play! Please?" His rear wiggled a bit more and then gave a little smirk. "We can play chase or tag, or... Something. Hide and seek? How's that sound?" He asked. Something not physical would do well for her, he thought.
Obviously, Mato didn't care about her using his full name, nor did he care about her explanation about the curse word. He had play on the brain!

Almasi was a little unsure. She wasn't very good at 'playing'. She was better at 'thinking'. But...well, she supposed she could try. "Okay...We can play tag." She knew that game. It was a simple one, and it was fun for others. And now...she would get the upper hand.
Her pale eyes glinted mischievously, as her paw flashed out and bapped the pink boy's shoulder. "You are it." And off she ran.

Mato squeaked as she tagged him and blinked. "Hey!" He called with a laugh, shaking his head. He was going to tag her like that! Sneaky girl! Knowing this would be a lot of fun, he took off after her, not running at his full pace yet. He wanted to make this game last a while, even if it got them dirty!
"Just don't lead me in your pride!" He called out to her, knowing she wouldn't. He just felt the need to tell her so he seemed like he actually cared that there was a border.

Almasi was careful to not go into the pride...just on the borders. She knew rogues were welcome, so long as they didn't cause trouble...but she didn't want to cause him undue stress. She'd see if he and his family wanted to stay the night later. She slowed down at one point so he could catch her. Was no fun if she always managed to avoid him.

Mato wasn't expecting her to slow down, and instead of doing so himself, he ended up toppling into her, rolling a bit until he landed on his stomach. It knocked the wind out of him, but no damage other than more dust on his pale fur. Quickly getting up, Mato padded to the blue female and whimpered a bit. "Did I hurt you? Are you ok? I didn't know you'd slow down!" It was all rushed, hardly a breath between questions, definitely not giving her enough time to answer them all.

When Mato knocked into her, Almasi stumbled and ended up rolling a bit herself, landing on her back. She was dizzy for a moment, but no real harm had been done. The pink cub's questions made her blink..then give him something like a ghost of a smile. "I am okay. I just..." She rolled over onto her stomach, then stood. "Wanted the game to be...fun." That was the word. "It's no fun if you can't catch me, right?"

That was true. It wouldn't be fun if he didn't catch her, but still! He was worried she'd sprained something. "If you're sure you are ok...?" He said, reaching out and tapping her nose. "Tag!" With that, he darted off at a slower pace, looking behind him to see if she was going to start chasing him or if the game would already be over.

Almasi nodded, the slight smile still on her muzzle. "I am okay, really." Nothing out of place except maybe a couple bits of fur rubbed the wrong way...those would settle back into place. She snorted a bit in surprise when he tagged her on the nose and took off. Well! Seemed her trick had been used against her. The smile growing a little, she took off after him, as the 'it' creature was supposed to do.

Satisfied that she was alright, Mato didn't let her get to close to him right away. Like she said, can't let the game end too early, now could he? Besides, he knew he could outrun this blue female until she grew irritated with him. That was a fun thing to do in Mato's head. With a little laugh, he zigzaged around some rocks and trees before climbing on a rock to look down at her, to see what she would do. "Hey! Up here!"

Almasi followed him, a little less agile but no less determined to keep up. She did loose him at one point, however, when she nearly ran headfirst into one of those trees. Blinking, she looked around. "Matokea?" When she heard his voice from the rock, she looked up and tilted her head. Huh...how to get up there...Nodding to herself, and took a few steps back...then sprang up. She got up there...mostly. Her back half was kind of hanging off though.
