Say if I got Pokemon heart gold and saved infront of the starters and keep reseting untill I get a shiny Totodile how long do you think that would take?

That can't really be determined.The chances are 1/8192 so it could happen in weeks or maybe a couple of months.I've seen people on youtube that do around 8,000-10,000 soft resets.It could take more.You just have to hope you're really lucky.

Out of all the years I've played pokemon, I've only ran into 3 legit shinies in the wild. 2 were in Diamond, the other one was in Cyrstal.

SAme as Luther XD All on Platinum and I chained, so I have never got a single random shiny, my best friend has gotten two randoms though DX

The only random shiny I've ever gotten myself was a Roselia in the same Ruby file that caught PokeRus. biggrin It was my lucky game!
However (bragging a bit), I managed to soft-reset myself a shiny Origin Forme Giratina. biggrin Platinum's still sitting there neglected because I want a shiny Dialga but I haven't gotten back to trying for it. x)

i can never get a shiny TT__TT from Ruby to platnium, i got nothing all my friends randomly found up to 5 but me 0 TT__TT i have horrible luck XD

I would think you'd have to restart completely O.o; instead of just save there.

In my Ruby, which at the time had only been played for about 70 hours, I went to the Safari Zone and caught a shiny Girafarig. I've also caught a shiny Zigzagoon (Now a Linoone) in Sapphire, and of course, the red Gyarados in Crystal.

I would restart the Red Gyarados till it's jolly nature with decent IVs.

I got a shiny Zigzagoon in my Ruby game... that has now evolved into a Linnone.. or whatever it's called. I'm totally in love with it! XP
Anywho I'm currently still rtying to get an Origine Forme Shiny Giratina in my Platinum Game and it's getting out of hand the amount of time I've ahd to soft restart my game... I'll give you a brief over view... I started hunting for one near the end of August and I still can't get one to this day..!!! gonk gonk

dark rukia91 i can never get a shiny TT__TT from Ruby to platnium, i got nothing all my friends randomly found up to 5 but me 0 TT__TT i have horrible luck XD naw, its not like you can NEVER get a shiny, the odds are just random. using a pokeradar is the best way to get one, you just have to look up pokechaining videos to help you, and don't give up, you'll get one. Hope I helped ^^
