I've just had a very strange dream situation, and I have a hard time believing that it doesn't have some sort of meaning.
But before I bring it up here, I'm interested to see what the Buddhist perspective is on dreams and their meaning (or lack thereof).

I have long believed there's something to dreams, but not necessarily from a prophetic end. Dreams, from what I've been taught, are your subconcious trying to make sense of events and 'defrag' your brain. Some of them are weird, disjointed or seemingly prophetic for this reason - your mind sometimes sees things you don't want to, or that you bury.
That having been said, I did dream my father's funeral the day before he died, down to the casket. Only thing I never saw was who was in it; no one would let me see it in the dream.

Well, OK, quick explanation. A couple of years ago I had this really long, hard-to-explain dream, but it really stuck with me for a long time. Like, I couldn't figure out what it was supposed to mean, but I had a feeling it was supposed to mean something. Anyway, toward the end of the dream, I saw a rock with some writing on it. The writing was colorful and really pretty, but I couldn't understand it. Someone else in the dream commented, "Oh, Buddha must have written that when he was here." Which, of course, didn't make any sense to me. Especially considering I was still a Christian back then. Anyway, I was listening to Om-Mani-Padme-Hum today and I looked it up to find out just what it translated to and found this: eek Say what you will, I know this was the writing I saw in my dream. Not sure what to do with that, but there it is.

I myself decided to finally stop lurking in the guild and post this very question this morning. You beat me to it.
I find myself dreaming about things that end up happening a good deal of the time. It can be disheartening for me, knowing that, "adkfaejral I dreamed about it but couldn't do anything about it!"
I have also found myself dreaming about my own future, which has been very rare for myself.

Dreaming of the future has also happened to me. I remember the first one I had. I was six years old. I drempt that I was holding something in my hand and was walking around until I saw this other girl eating a bowl of ice-cream as I muttered "oh my god" to myself. Fast forward another six years, and I see my cousin; the same exact girl from my dream. the reason I muttered OMG is because I couldn't believe I had actually seen this before

Not sure what to do with that, but there it is. That is very cool that you dreamed of your own future in Buddhism. lol I believe that our dreams stem from a chemical produced in our pineal gland which is located at the center of our brains. The chemical that is produced is called referred to as DMT. Our brain produces is at birth, during dreams, and near-death-experiences/death itself. It helps us to be able to see our dreams clearly. DMT can also be smoked when in a crystalline form and it is not uncommon for people to experience clairvoyant-like visions, so the natural DMT produced in our brains could give the same effect, which would, in turn, cause deja-vu and future-in-dream prediction.

I too receive similar dreams. They come as just a picture, like what you see. and then a couple weeks later, give or take a couple days, i find myself looking upon that scene. It happened to me today in fact, in my French 1 class. we were reading from the text book and i looked at something and i recognized it from a dream i had about a week ago. people think i am crazy, but its the truth.
