Waha Nuidove to be at Kyo's side when he ordered the pack to keep steady. The sea serpent was as ready as they were. Aching for a fight, Waha growled and started to thrash her tail and head. Her flaming eyes never left the eyes of the monster.
As Kyo shot forward, Waha roared and spun after him. The currents were less threatening behind his masculine body, so Waha stayed back, drafting. "Lets take this demon out!" She pinned her ears back and egged her team mates on.
She grinned to show off her pearly teeth. They stood out in the dark waters. Waha was more than ready to take a bite out of this foul destroyer. She was swift like a thick scaled fish. In her element, she felt courageous and bold. There was no doubt that her and the other kunifish could take this monster down. She opened her mouth and let the water stream past her tight jaw. Air bubbles left her nostrils and Waha was ready to dive even deeper. "Let Inari deliver us strength!" She shouted.

Things were heating up, Ode was glad at the arrival of Kohaku. She nodded and dropped under the surface of the water, clumsily making her way for shore. Suddenly her back paws, then ankles, knees, and front legs were violently pulled deeper into the ocean. Ode strained to look for an Oushi grabbing at her haunches, but it was the invincible pull of the current, created by the sea serpent's massive waves. Ode's last air bubbles escaped her nostrils and she was tossed back, then up and forward in a spinning motion by the wave. A crash landing pushed her onto the shore, just behind the advancing line of Oushi.

Pacha, after hunting down his brother, Jerro, rushed to the shores of Shouhou, eager to make sure his children were staying safe. Jerro was there for the sheer enthusiasm of blood spill. Pacha leapt out from the tree line, landing next to Sango. He barked and started to claw at the advancing Oushi. "Ode!" He shouted to his daughter, "Ode!" Pacha would help out here as much he could before searching for his other children. Hopefully as soon as Ode woke, she would be able to defend this entire area with Sango.

Jerro was already searching other parts of the city for Arkantii and Chishiki. Kenbu could take care of himself. Jerro knew in this crisis they should really be considering the human's safety, but he could only imagine the concern of a father. He dreamed of having children of his own some day, (wink wink, cutie shirinypoo) and sympathized with his brother. The blue and orange Kuniku sprinted the shore line in search of where he could be helpful.

Everything had happened so fast, Sangokai had little to no time to react, especially as the large wave caused by the sea serpent sent him jetting backwards, knocking him into the rock that Suiei had lept from moments ago. A brief flash of sparkles entered his vision before it went black, causing him to cling wildly to the rock as his eyes readjusted to the waters. Without his eyes, Sangokai would be as useless as a wet match in the battle (not that he wasn't already quite as useless as a pebble), and could even get himself killed if he weren't paying attention. Somewhere through the severely dark blurry vision and his ringing ears, he began to wonder why in the world a demon this big would suddenly appear in the waters of Honshu. Hadn't Ryujin blessed the humans with a bountiful catch this year? What was with the sudden rise of this massive demon? The last thought in Sangokai's mind was nearly whispered as the aquatic Kuniku came-to:

'Is this an omen of worse to come?'

Once able to see again, Kai was made quite aware of a throbbing sensation in the back of his head, and was a little surprised to see a cloud of blood before his eyes. Dipping his head down, he raised a gentle paw to the back of his skull, and as feared, there was a split in his fur right down the middle between his ears. There was no time to think about getting help with that, however, as the serpent reared its ugly head and dove straight past the cyan and pink Kuniku toward a massing group of fellow warrior creatures. The sudden dive from the giant monster sent Sangokai swirling in its wake, messing with his vision yet again. He was seeing double, then triple, then back to normal in the span of a few seconds, as he tried to focus on something--anything--to get him back on track.

Unfortunately for the disoriented male, the one shape he happened to fix his eyes on was a rather large sea Oushi darting toward him, its ugly eyes fixed on the Kuniku, and its mouth agape as if to swallow Sangokai whole. Just managing to duck out of its way, Kai dove deeper into the ocean as the Oushi smacked its own skull against the rock, causing the exact same damage it had done to the aquatic male. For a split second of clarity, Kai turned to see the dazed Oushi, and grabbed the opportunity to slip up underneath the horrifying beast, clawing his way up to the throat to snap it. With a quick crunch, Sangokai (even in his dizzy state) realized that he had killed his very first Oushi, and had taken his very first life.

All at once, this was too much to handle for the male, and he settled on closing his eyes and ears to the terrifying situation at hand, feeling incredibly sleepy as he floated, dazed, underneath the dead Oushi. Hopefully, he thought, the giant serpent would not find him here.

The moment he touched down on shore, he was engaged in combat. The Oushi were everywhere, their stink pooling in the bottom of his mouth as he bit and clawed them open, muscular tail whipping around to catch the places where their joints were unguarded. It was freeing to move, a release of tension after the human's incessant babbling and unrepentant clinging. When he'd cleared a circle wide enough to let his temporary charge escape, he turned back to dive into his native element, and was greeted by the sight of the serpent's head breaking the surface.

The demon's scaled brow gleamed, and its mouth dripped noxious liquid as it parted its jaws and bellowed, the sound slamming mercilessly down on his ears. Xerxes flattened them against his head in a last-ditch effort to protect his hearing, unable to imagine how his comrades closer to the origin of the noise would fare. Irritation flared up in his chest to unleash itself in a growl, because he should have been among them, not just carting hapless mortals back and forth. He had nothing against the humans, but there was only so much room on his plate, and that coiling, ocean-devouring thing took up the majority of it.

A glance told him that the wall of incoming water would not lose enough momentum to stop before it slammed into sands on which he stood. There was no time to yell a warning to the man he'd escorted, merely hoping he'd made his way further inland as the kuniku slipped into the pulling surf and felt the wave pass ghost-like over his back in the fathoms. He needed to get out to where they were, a ring of colorful resistance against the threat. Silhouettes roiled before his eyes as he squinted and tried to bully the waves, nearly bumping into a solid mass that proved not to be another trick of vision. An Oushi. Adrenaline pushed his heart into a faster rhythm as he reared back to strike, but the thing did not move to attack him in turn, and closer inspection showed it had already been dispatched. He glanced down and saw who had been the one to do so, a motionless, young figure greeting his intense expression. Blood fouled the water, and he was a warrior, not a nursemaid, but the floating body shaped similarly to his stabbed at the male's conscience. No. Not... He couldn't stop if he wanted to be on the front line, in the battle and making a difference. If he could just sink his teeth into the serpent, he'd tear and rend until all the malignancy spilled out.

It was another male, green with smears of pink along his sides, and a laceration somewhere on his head was what slowly turned the atmosphere to clouds at sunset on a day that threatened rain. Xerxes reached out and pushed at his shoulder with one paw, trying to judge if he was even still alive. If so, he needed to get out of there and tend to himself, or have someone else do it. They were too close to the epicenter to indulge in resting, and his injuries would undoubtedly attract attention.

The advancing Kuniku were rapidly approaching the Sea Serpent’s position. The demon beast thrashed beneath the waves, body coiling around itself below the surface. After its initial dive he focused in on one the closest of his enemies. Its eyes snapped wide open, jaws parting to let out a stream of bubbles. Waha Nui and Kyo were in its sights. Ignoring the others that came at him from every side, he charged towards the two Kuniku ready to tear into them and weaken the Kuniku attack.

He was after Kyo! Snarling, Sakana surged forward, the coral-and-teal aquatic's tail thrashing to propel her in her rush. Lips drew back from teeth, revealing fangs meant for rending demons. Snapping wildly, the tiny Kuniku sought to make a telling blow.

Waha Nui's eyes widened as the Serpent charged. She snorted, releasing a stream of bubbles- mimicking the Sea Serpent's intimidation attempts. Water streamed off her body and Waha spiraled towards the beast's parted jaws. "GRRRRRRAAWGH!"

She sneered and immediately dove deep under the Serpent's head, right before meeting up with his sharp teeth. Her tail rhythmically propelled her through the tight currents. Harsh pressure kept Waha from daring to dive deeper, so she kept her claws tense, ready to strike a moment of opportunity when the beast's soft belly was exposed. The Kuniku couldn't waste anytime.

Waha made brief eye contact with Kyo, also preparing to attack. Perhaps Waha Nui's opportunity of attempting an attack was right now. All within moments, she was underneath the beast, sharpened claws launching towards the belly of the serpent. Waha parted her jaws, ready to snap out a chunk of the monster's flesh. The cool salty water filled in around her gums.

The only sounds that registered within Sangokai's head now, were the rush of waves as they continued to swirl around him, created by the creature that was surely going to try its damnedest to wipe out all the Kuniku that were swarming here. That, and his own heartbeat as it pulsed a steady flow of blood from his head. His body hung underneath the dead oushi for an indefinite amount of time as he drifted in and out of consciousness, pondering if he had done any good by killing the demon in the first place. If he hadn't killed the oushi, how many others would have been affected? Did he save lives by destroying the opportunity for this oushi to do any further damage? What a pleasant thought that was...

A soft smile tugged at the Kuniku's lips as a few bubbles escaped from his nose, only to catch underneath the large oushi's chin. Sangokai was beginning to feel at peace with the bulky demon's body hanging just above his own. The ocean was a lot less violent here, with the colossal serpent moved away from him. It was during this time when he felt himself almost slip back into unconsciousness that he was brought back by a gentle nudge to his shoulder. It was unpleasant to feel a stab of pain through his head, he realized, and he blinked his eyes open, trying to make sense of the blurry images in front of his face. There was a black shape ahead of him, quite close, and when Kai concentrated, he found that the energy radiating from the shape was that of a fellow Kuniku.

"What're you doin' here, friend..?" He mumbled, not aware if the black Kuniku could hear him or not.

Clearly, he had forgotten of the turmoil only a few yards away from him, but was made aware of it yet again when another large wave pulsed against them all from the serpent's dive.

Uneasiness swarmed in his belly while the other male slowly collected himself and phrased the question, so out of place in their surroundings that it could have been an inappropriate attempt at comedy. Bringing their small snouts closer, Xerxes peered into the muddled irises, a cloud of bubbles forming at his sigh. Not a joke. He'd be lucky if he wasn't concussed. "Battling, or I will be." He paused, giving the other a once over before using his feet to offer a light shove toward the mainland. "You've been injured. You need to-"

The wave snatched away the final words, battering their bodies as the surface overhead broke into frothing white. A muted snarl burst out of him, and he had to fight to stay in place, the Oushi above them under no such constraints as it bumped over his shoulder and spun out into the deepening chaos. An automatic impulse made him lunge forward to brace the wounded kuniku, fumbling ineffectively in a tangle of legs until his teeth found purchase in the other's scruff. Everything tasted of brine, making the blood hard to distinguish from the rest, the sea swallowing it up like a tithe.

When the waters began to settle again, he spat out the damp fur and panted, grey eyes darting alertly to see if the serpent was closer than he'd suspected. There didn't seem to be any kind of immensity hurtling toward them, so he turned back to address the green creature beside him, tone stern to pierce the haze. "Get back on land, try to find somewhere to hide until you can be healed. You can't be out here, not now." He would be flung around helplessly at this rate, or worse, crushed without remorse. There was no chance of negotiation, nothing like bartering for the return of captives - the Oushi did not take prisoners. If he was caught, he would be killed. "Do you understand? Go!"

Battling, did he say? Oh. That was right. There was an incredibly large sea serpent... And the... Yes. That was correct.

The sudden urgency of the moment sent his mind into double time, the gears turning frantically in his head as he tried to gather his surroundings. At the pulse of the second wave, Sangokai cringed, trying to stay in place so that he wouldn't be dragged into the raging ocean like the Oushi above him. He was sure he would lose this battle against the waves, but there was a quick assurance from the dark Kuniku, as he felt firm teeth take hold of his scruff. It was a nice feeling... Until he felt his head pulse again, making him whimper harshly. The sea settled, and Kai was forced to listen to Xerxes' intelligent words over the roar of his thudding head.

"Land?" It sounded like Sangokai had just been born yesterday with the way he was speaking. It wasn't the best first impression ever, but he glanced around the water, trying to actually locate the beach. He could not find it, but he had a good idea where it might be. "But... I can't just leave everyone an' run." Kai was beginning to get dizzy again, but he pushed through and ignored it. "I still need t' help..." But somewhere in the back of his head, he heard a little voice tell him that he would be of no use in this state. He should listen to Xerxes...

Go back to land.

"You're right... Thank you. I owe you." And with a small bump to the other Kuniku's shoulder with his forehead, Sangokai attempted to try and swim toward where he believed the beach should have been. Maybe, if he got his head fixed, he would be able to help from out of the water...

There were several others, and he could smell it--or, rather... He could smell their anger and fear through his clouded mind. As he finally found his way to the shore, Kai not-so-gracefully stumbled onto the sand, tripping over his own paws as he collapsed onto the ground. Quickly realizing that gravity was a whole lot nicer to him under water than it was above water, he tried in vain to drag himself from the waves, and from the roaring Oushi. How he managed to skirt around them in the first place was a mystery, but what mattered is that he was here now, and he had to get help soon before...

No. That thought would not cross his mind again.

There was a strong sense of family from the Kuniku that were already on the beach, and he could hear the faint call of a desperate father to his unconscious daughter laying not too far away from himself. What had happened to her, he wondered? Had an Oushi already gotten to her..? No. She was still breathing, and that somehow comforted him, even though his head was slowly trying to turn his vision dark.

The serpent suddenly changed its course as Sakana rush as him; her attack tearing through some of the scales its underside and clouding the water with blood. The giant demon thrust its head towards the female Kuniku, smacking her sideways.

Waha has already dived beneath its earlier attack and it hadn’t noticed her, intent on the little fool that had dared cause it damage. Then claws tore into soft belly and the demon reared back, head breaking through the surface of the water to give a loud, ear splitting howl of rage. The serpent suddenly curled its body up, trying to crush Waha within its coils.

Waha gasped as the serpent squeezed her. His flesh felt like a thick rope, tightening around her. Unable to move her forelegs or back legs, she panicked. Waha shook her neck and tossed her head side to side! Then she snapped down, biting the monster. She was really craning her neck to reach him with her jaws, and wasn't sure just how powerful her efforts were. It was getting difficult to breath, Waha could feel her head getting lighter. Her eyes clouded over, and she could no longer see her brothers and sister's fighting around her. "I am Kuniku Warrior", she told herself. "Bless Inari."

Waha's jaws loosened and she fell limp.

A swirl of noises bounced through Ode's ears. She blinked and her eyes rolled all around the scene of the battle, giving her glimpses of Oushi carcasses, Sango's ankles walking in a not too straight line, and Papa, laying by her side. She blinked again and the world came into focus. Ode gasped and tried to shoot up, "BATTLE!" She cried. Slightly disoriented, Ode looked all around her, trying to figure out what she missed. Her head was ringing a little from the crash landing, but no broken bones, no ripped skin. She barked as deep she could and rushed towards the nearest Oushi trying to crawl up behind Sango.

Pacha smiled and followed his daughter. She was such a better warrior than he was. Kenbu would loved to have seen that. Pacha tackled the Oushi and barked cheerfully to Sango. "Send positive energy while you mend, brother!"

"Yes!" Ode joined in, "it's all about energy!" She then enthusiastically smacked a new Oushi in the face with her paw, claw side out. "Kuniku will succeed! Bless Inari!" The family howled together and fought Oushi, all the time keeping Sango in their peripherals. Now was not the time to leave a a brother hanging.
