The World of Almanast

a whole world to explore
A diverse and complex land is what characterizes Almanast. In fact, it is actually an island, and only a piece to a much larger world. But, we won't be getting into that, now will we?
Almanast is divided into several provinces, each with it's own characteristics and traits. Six provinces in all. But as small as Almanast may seem on a map, it is decievingly quite large. Almanast is home to hundreds of thousands of peoples, and with them, bring tales, myths and legends of the land.

In the center of the island country, lies the Heartland Province. It is in this Province that the races of Almanast come together.
The center of the island, the very center, is the home of a giant volcano, which thankfully lies dormant. There are those that fear what would happen if the mountain began to stir, and would rather think nothing of it, if only it were not there. By name, it is known as Rhok (prounounced rock), but it is more commonly spoken of as simply "the mountain." All around it, for several miles, the world remains a barren landscape, but only for so far. Next to the mountain, on the eastern rim, lies an ancient structure; a temple of sorts, it seems, which, despite it's history, is nearly untarnished but by time alone. Scholars and archaeologists alike wonder if there is some magic at work, and are almost certain of it.
Around the massive mountain, there are only two major cities; other towns and villages are spread throughout as well.
Altyrys - The capital of Almanast, it is a beautiful city, and a large one at that. Home to nearly fifty thousand people alone, there is no other city known to hold such a number. Here is where the adventure begins.
Zhkhnath - the official capital of the race of dwarves, the city is carved entirely out of stone. It is a testament to their craftsmanship, and a simplistic yet inspiring work of art in itself. The cities unique design atttracts many tourists; having been carved from stone, the city slopes into the ground, giving the look of a city built in a crator.

The province of Everwood, in the northeast, is the realm of the noble Elven race. This vast expanse of forest and brush is the home to many creatures, and a refuge to those who seek it. A natural haven, it's borders ward off any foreign evil, thank's to the Elves. That does not mean it bears no threat, however. Within the past two years strange happenings have been reported from deep inside Everwood forest, not far from its capital. uneasiness stirrs in the air if you mention the forest temple, as ancient as any that dwell in the land of Almanast. It's treetop heights and stone passages below ground are rumored to be haunted by some foul thing; a gaurdian turned corrupt.
Evehheir - Within the forest, a city of oaks and vines lies hidden, and only those who know the forest well, like the Elves who live there, know where to find it. Beautiful by nature, and made perfect by the Elves, those who have seen it have no words to describe it's magnificance. The majorty of the world's Elves live in this city, preferring to be with their own kind.
Ehraelle - The Elven port city far to the north, it's trade along the ocean and the river largely relies on exporting food and elven-craft in exchange for any metals and precious stones, or anything ancient, having a fine taste for such. Many of the Elves that reside here are much more friendly and open than anywhere else.
Ryhaelle - One of two small port towns along the Clearwater Spring lake, it is more of a residential town for those who wish to live in open air. They recieve their share of items from their upstream neighbor, Evehheir. They have close ties with the nearby mixed-race village, Sreael.
Sreael - The second of the Clearwater settlements, Sreael is a peaceful small village, home to both Elves and Humans alike. The two races get along just as well as in Ehraelle, being uncommonly friendly than the more secluded Elven comrades. Their trade too comes from Evehheir, and ties with Ryhaelle are as strong as ever.

The Westland Province is largely an empty place, famous for the vast Brenethel Plains. The tall grass and constant breeze give it a natural beauty, giving the nickname of the "Brenethel Sea," when the grass mimics the ocean waves. All her is not peaceful, though. Creatures have adapted to hunt below the grass, striking at unwary travellers wo pass by on the roads. If you are unlucky enough to stray into the grass, it is easy to lose your way, and the chances of finding your way back are slim. The forest, as it is simply called, is a haven for those who have lost their way, and from there one may find civilization again.
Bankridge - A small hunting village overlooking Lake Tear's north bank, Bankridge is most famous for it's unrivalled hunters and trackers. This is mostly due to it's close proximity to both the forest and the Brenethel Plains, where they practice there sport. To the villiagers, hunting is an art.
Bankridge is also famous, as such, for nearly impenetrable defences. During the invasion of the Yythylse(nomadic peoples of the Drelle), their name was feared after they pushed back a force nearly four times their own size, and became the pivitol turning point in the war.
