I have to do a self portrait for my film class, and I don't know how...I don't have a self timer on my film camera, and I hate doing mirror pictures and the ones where you hold your camera at arms length and pray that you got your whole face in the shot.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to shoot a self portrait?

Then you will need to buy a self timer. What kind of a camera is it? There should be a self timer for it. I found one for my old polaroid. Anyway put the camera on a tripod, focus, set the timer, then run into place. Or you could use a remote but idk if they have those for film cameras.

Wow way to not know your camera. I downloaded a user manual for it and it has a self timer. I screen shot the page for you.

Its because its not my camera. Its my parent's and they lost the book for it. I've only used it once before because I couldn't afford film for it.
Thank you!!!

Problem solved but for the hell of it ima answer anyways lol. For me taking a shot before a mirror works for me. I can see the screen via the mirror and see myself to roughly know where I'm at. -shrugs- works for me.

This is a classic example of a bad myspace photo. I've only been able to get a good self portrait with a mirror a couple times razz

I ended up doing one in a mirror, but I purposly showed the mirror cuz it was a really cool looking one at an antique shop. This had been for my film class, so there was no screen on my camera cuz its OLD! Like...this was jesus's first camera and it was a hand me down. Lol

For the film SLRs, you ought to be able to get a corded exposure button pusher thing...I'm so professional stressed ... Anyway, I can't remember the proper name for it right now, but it's basically made up of a cord that screws into your exposure button with a little metal tube that gets pressed down when you squeeze the pressurized ball-grip on at the other end of the cord, which then exposes your film.
It's useful for when you can't be at the camera for a photo and maybe need more time than 10 seconds to set up a shot.

Yea, that works too. I've been known to use my brother or my cousin a time or two. It gets kinda hard though when you're just in the studio all by yourself and you have nothing but a blank wall to focus on before jumping into the frame.
