Frost breathed in the cold mountain air and his piercing blue eyes followed the slow dance of leaves as they fell to the ground. It was a sight that he had always enjoyed, oddly enough. It just seemed to calm him down, make things clearer, simpler. And in this misty morning it was even more beautiful, in a ghostly kind of way. The mist would lift soon, but right now he could barely make out anything more than a few feet away from him. It was just him, the leaves and silence. A very good start for the day, if you asked him.
And so it was with a smile on his usually unemotional face that Frost continued his morning routine. He would go to the Stone Gates first and check for scents of unwelcome visitors. Then he would patrol the Valley, making sure that if someone had come during the night they would stay unnoticed much longer. Soon he would have to start taking Kerr on his morning patrols. He wanted to be a Hunter, but Frost saw no harm in teaching him some fighting techniques.
As he thought of the green cub-soon-to-be-adult, he remembered the newest member of their group. The little gray cub, Falknir? Yes, that was it. What if he was a better fit for a Warrior position? He had no idea, Frost still hadn't properly talked to him. Maybe today was the day...

FalknirFalknir could barely see anything in front of him. He was walking in a comical way, lifting his paws as high as possible with every step so that he would not step on any pebbles or rocks that he could not see. His white tail flicked in frustration at the fog. Why did it have to come today, of all days? Falknir did not think about the fact that if it came on any other day, the result would have been the same. He looked up from the ground just in time to see a tree right in front of him. One more step and he would have crashed into the trunk. Whoa, that was scary... He thought as he continued on, still looking back at the dangerous tree. What he failed to notice this time was a piece of tree root sticking up from the ground. "Oof!" He uttered a muffled yelp as he tripped over the outstretched root, making him land on his nose in a very undignified way. "Stupid root...stupid fog..." He grumbled as he sat back up, rubbing his nose. He then noticed a large shadow falling over him, and slowly looked up. The blue leader Frost was right in front of him. Falknir stared up at the leader with wide, surprised eyes. Having never been so close to Frost before, he felt a little intimidated by the leader's presence. "Uh...hi." He said as a hesitant greeting. His eyes were still wide and slightly scared as he stared up at the leader, and blinked.

Frost paused mid-step as he saw a small shadow appear in the mist. It soon became more solid and the male was almost certain it was a cub. An early bird. He was about to call out to it when Falknir, as it turned out to be, tripped and fell in front of him. Frost watched with a distasteful look as the gray boy got up and then greeted him meekly. Hopefully he would grow out of that. Still in a relatively good mood, Frost's expression became neutral again and he replied "Hello, Falknir. You're up early."
"Come with me." he beckoned and continued with his patrolling. "You shouldn't be wandering on your own like that, especially in this mist." It wasn't that he felt any kind of emotional attachment for the cub, but he was a part of his Clan now and he would make sure nothing happened to him. "Aren't you scared of wandering around on your own? You never know what other creatures might be around." He looked down at Falknir from the corner of his eye. Even tough he was shy around others, he could be brave in other ways. They needed better protection and it would be great if this cub could join him and Dark Ice in guarding the Clan once he grew up.

FalknirFalknir nodded and started to walk briskly to follow his leader. The pace was leisurely for Frost, but for Falknir he had to take two steps for every step Frost takes. He had a determined expression on his face, as if he was set on not to embarrass himself any further and show himself to be strong. When Frost asked him if he would be scared on wandering around on his own, Falknir hesitated for a moment, afraid to speak up. What if Frost was displeased with his answer? Falknir wrinkled his muzzle as he thought about what to say to his leader. "I'm not scared...if anything attacks me, I'll fight and chase it away!" He said with a hint of pride in his voice. Though, when Frost was not looking, Falknir chewed his bottom lip nervously, wondering if he had said the right thing. He flicked his ears back and forth uneasily at being alone with the leader. He looked up to Frost greatly, but walking alone with him was nerveracking indeed, for the shy Falknir.
((Short...but oh well.))

Frost chuckled a little at his answer. Shy but scrappy, what an interesting combination. "It's great that you have such confidence in yourself." He praised, pleased with his response. Yes, the boy truly had potential. He was a great addition to the clan. "Tough right now you might be a bit too small for serious fights. But" He continued as he looked him over critically, "I'm sure you'll grow up a big Saighneian."
"Don't be so nervous." He added when he noticed Falknir chewing on his lip. "Or at least don't show it. When you are facing an enemy you mustn't show your emotions. It will play against you." His tone was calm. He wasn't scolding, that would only make Falknir even more nervous, he was just offering some valuable advice.
"Falknir, have you ever thought about what you want to do in the future?" Frost stopped next to a rock that overlooked a clearing in the forest. They had been moving along the edge of the Valley. Dark Ice was patrolling the lower grounds. The male walked to the edge and stopped there, looking over the clearing for signs of life. The mist was beginning to lift and it was easier to see than earlier.

FalknirFalknir looked up to Frost when he chuckled, wondering what was so funny. Was it something he said? He did not find it that funny...When Frost said that he was a bit too small for serious fights, Falknir wrinkled his muzzle and lifted his head to try and make himself look as big as possible, even though he was still only less than half of Frost's size. He immediately stopped chewing on his lip when Frost told him not to, but still looked a little uneasy at being alone with the leader.
"What I want to do in the future? Um...probably a Warrior I guess." Falknir again bit his lip as he thought about the question, and finally deciding on the rank of Warrior. After all, fighting was the best thing he was at for as long as he could remember. He pricked up his ears as he saw a large male patrolling the lower grounds, wondering who he was. Whoever he was, he seemed strong and powerful to Falknir.

"So you have thought about it. Good." Frost nodded with approval, slightly amused by Falknir's attempts to make himself look bigger. He decided he liked the cub. After a short pause he added. "I think that you would make a good Warrior." Frost wondered whether he should train him himself. Having a student who actually wanted to learn what Frost knew about fighting would be refreshing. He had attempted to give Kerr some lessons so he could protect himself better, but since the cub was more interested in hunting the experience was frustrating for the clan leader. His son Blizzard was still young, it would be months before he was old enough. Then Frost would have to focus all his attention on teaching his heir how to be a proper leader. But until then he could train young Falknir.
"That is Dark Ice." Frost said when he noticed the cub looking at the dark male. "Currently our only Warrior. And probably your future teacher." He said as he turned and went back to the path they were following before. "If you want to, that is. Otherwise I could start your training." He offered. He decided that he wanted to be his mentor. He wanted to see what the boy would grow up to be and if he could help him grow out of that shyness.

Falknir"A good warrior? Me? Really?" Falknir asked meekly, but with less of the previous shyness in his voice. Wow! The leader calling him a good warrior, with potential! That was not something he heard everyday. Falknir was almost bursting with happiness inside, but his exterior demeanor almost had no change apart from a hint of a shy smile. His steps became more bouncy as he trotted after Frost, and he lifted his head higher.
Dark Ice? Wow, what a strong name... Falknir thought as he stared at the big and strong male in awe. He wondered if he would grow to be that big in the future, or maybe even bigger! He could hardly wait to start his training so he could show just how strong he was. As if Frost had read his mind. the leader prompted the question on whether or not he wanted to start the training now. Falknir wanted badly to yowl out "YES!", but his voice was lodged in his throat. "I can start now?" Was the answer that came out, a little high-pitched due to the excitement and also the difficulty he found in talking to the leader normally.

"Yes, you!" Frost assured. "You certainly have the proper build for it. And you're not stupid either." He was impressed the cub's reaction and his smile widened. He wasn't bouncing around in a hyperactive fashion like most of the other cubs Frost had met at one point or another would.
"If that is what you want, yes." Frost confirmed. "I could teach you for now, but in a few months I will have to turn my attention to my son." Which meant that Dark would have to take over the boy's training. He gave Falknir a long look, wondering whether the cub was going to change his mind. Then another idea crossed his mind. "But I suppose I could teach both of you fighting techniques together and you'll have a partner closer to your size." It would be very good for the both of them. He wondered how he hadn't thought of this before.

FalknirFalknir had brightened visibily beneath his shy exterior, and now looked at Frost with hopeful eyes. He was not about to change his mind about that! Having a partner to train would not only be useful, but would be fun as well! "Yeah, I'd like to start now. Am I gonna train with Blizzard?" He asked curiously, wondering if the small cub could handle the training. Which is actually quite an exaggerated thought, since he was not actually that much bigger than Blizzard right now.

Frost nodded and gave the cub a smile. "Yes, you are going to train with my son." He confirmed. "Let's go find him and you can have your first lesson today. He should be with my sister." Eirwen had said she was going to take Blizzard along for her hunting lesson with Kerr and they were going to be near the lake.
With that in mind the clan leader left the path they were currently following and headed back into the heart of the Valley. He hoped his son would bond with Falknir, the both of them needed friends their own age. And he didn't want Blizzard to feel cut off from other cubs because of his Heir status. This certainly seemed like a step in the right direction.
