The time had come. She'd waited far too long, tried to avoid it for as long as possible, but time had run out. She could stall no longer. Today, the unthinkable would happen. Today, Lee would hold a baby.
Shaking her hands a bit and taking deep breaths, Lee tried to prepare herself. It was just one baby, possibly two, and then it would be over. She was here because she had an obligation to have some sort of contact with these children, because she'd actually been referred to as their auntie at one point. Ugh. Stupid babies with their tiny hands and their tiny brains. Rubbing her cheek, Lee stepped up to the Grady vardo's door, not bothering to knock (she knew she'd run if she had to wait for someone to answer) and pushing it open.
"Hey..." she sounded as distraught as she was, the girl's eyes searching for the little creature that would soon be in her arms.

Ellandra was sitting in the rocking chair, soothing both twins and looking just a bit tired, but she smiled at Lee as she came in. "Hello, Lee. . . how are you doing?" If she planned to let Lee hold one of the babies, she certainly wasn't saying as much just yet. The brunette woman looked fairly exhausted, although to be honest she was more worried about Faolan, seeing as how he kept taking on the midnight feedings and the like. She hadn't seen Lee in a while, however, and was glad to get the opportunity to speak to her younger sister in everything but name and blood.
Neither of the twins were falling asleep just yet; both seemed wide awake and curious about whatever they could process about the world. Bel in particular was restless, wriggling around as best she could being all wrapped up, and peering around with infant-bleary blue-grey eyes, which were rapidly fading out to her mother's silvery-grey iris color.

Stepping father inside, Lee cocked her head, noting how tired Ellandra looked. "I'm fine. Are you okay?" Were babies this tiring? Making her way to Ellandra's side, Lee carefully sat next to her, barely glancing over at the little ones in her arms. Wait, what was the tuff of orange she'd seen? "Woah... Did you dye its hair or something?" Yes, she'd referred to baby Sam as an "it", telling herself it was because she didn't want to call the baby either "he" or "she" when she wasn't sure which was which. Sam's orange hair really didn't look natural, at least not to her. It had at least got her looking at the babies, something she would have kept herself from doing otherwise.

Ellandra smiled at Lee, then tried not to laugh at her question about sam's hair. It wouldn't be right to laugh about a serious question, no matter how silly it sounded. "I'm fine, Lee, just tired - and no, Sam's hair isn't dyed. He just takes after his father - Faolan's hair was this bright when he was small, too." In her arms, the babies both shifted, hearing the new, unfamiliar voice. Stifling another giggle, Ellandra smiled at Lee, then rose and placed Sam in his bassinet for the moment.
"I know you're not really wanting to do this, Lee, so I promise I"ll take her right back - but you should hold one of them, at least once," she said quietly, helping Lee get her arms into position and plunking little Bel into them before the teenager could protest, before going back and picking Sam up again, returning to the rocking chair with him in her arms.
Bel blinked as she was handed over, light, blue-ish grey eyes peering curiously at the girl who held her, scrunching up her face and squinching her eyes to try and see the not-Mama and not-sister person holding her.

At least she knew which was which now; there would be no problem telling these two apart... Wait, what was Ellandra doing? Lee's eyes widened as a baby was placed into her arms, her whole body tensing up. "Nnngh..." was all that escaped the girl's lips, as coherent sentences weren't possible at the moment. What if she dropped her? Or what if Bel puked on her? At least she wasn't crying at the moment. Looking up to Ellandra with worried eyes for only a second, Lee kept her eyes glued on the baby, just to be safe.
Opening her mouth once more, she was able to speak after a few seconds, finally asking, "Th-this one is Bel, right?" Her voice was soft, simply because she assumed that's how one spoke around babies.

Ellandra nodded, going back to rocking Sam and stroking his downy orange hair, though she watched Lee the entire time. "Yes, that's Bel - and you'll need to try and relax a bit, if you can - if you're too tense you might scare her." Bel showed no signs of being frightened, though - rather, the baby simply looked curiously up at the girl holding her, puckering her lips off and on and turned her head to the left and right, seeking something to suckle on.

"Eh? O-oh, sorry..." Blinking rapidly for a moment, she forced her shoulders to relax, though with the thought of scaring the baby, she really wasn't any better off. Breathing slower, she looked the baby over, almost smiling at how closely she resembled her mother. "Hey there, Bel..." Lee clearly sounded uncomfortable, having never talked to a baby before, but she was trying. "You look like a tiny Ellandra..."

Bel blinked up at the big person holding her and gurgled, wondering what the big person was doing holding her. She looked a little like Mama, but she sounded very different. The baby waved a tiny hand in the hair, the little fingers on it clasping and unclasping. Ellandra continued rocking Sam, crooning to him gently as she kept an eye on Lee and Bel. "You're doing well, Lee - I think Bel likes you."

Laughing nervously at Ellandra's comment, Lee wasn't sure she really believed that. Could babies like anyone but their parents? She was no baby expert, but she was pretty certain Bel would forget she even existed the minute Lee gave her back to her mother. Still... she supposed the baby was, in a way, pretty cute. Looking over Bel's little hands and fingers, her lips formed a small smile, though she quickly stopped herself, looking up to Ellandra for a moment. "Should I give her back now?"

"Only if you want to," Ellandra said softly. "Now I'm certain she likes you. That's the calmest she's been all day," the brunette added, gently stroking the fluffy orange hair of her firstborn as she spoke. Bel continued clasping and unclasping her fingers, and Ellandra noticed this, her eyes darting to Lee's as a small, secretive smile graced the new mother's lips. "You might give her a finger to hold, Lee, see what it's like."

"R-really?" blinking down at the baby, she couldn't help but find her cuter now that she knew Bel liked her. This was exactly what she'd been avoiding. How was she going to say no if and when they ask her to babysit? She saw a future filled with burping babies and changing diapers, and yet it didn't bother her nearly as much as she thought it should have. She was frowning to herself, but actually became much more relaxed, even rocking the baby instinctively as she thought to herself. Looking up at Ellandra for a moment, she bit her lip before taking the woman's advice and holding out a finger for the baby to grab onto.

Bel automatically closed her tiny little fist around Lee's finger, blinking up at the big person and pursed her lips off and on, wondering if there would be something to eat forthcoming. Ellandra gently kissed Sam's forhead and watched Lee with Bel, choosing not to speak for a while - eventually howevr, she did need to say something to caution the younger brunette. "I. .. you might need to be a little more careful than the average with Bel, Lee," Ellandra said, sadness gracing her features. "She has a broken collarbone."

Lee's heart skipped a beat, her heart melting at the feel of Bel's fingers around her own. Such cute little hands... Were all babies like this? Either Bel was especially tolerable, or she'd been dead wrong about the little fellas. Glancing up at Ellandra with a surprised look on her face, she tilted her head. "How'd that happen?" Her voice was actually concerned, much more so than she wanted to come across, and she frowned down at the baby in her arms. Oh no, Lauss wasn't responsible was he? She knew he'd been coming over a lot lately, he may have dropped the little thing by accident.

"It happened when they were born, actually," Ellandra said quietly, still stroking Sam's hair and recognizing that Bel was relatively content for the moment at least. "Sam here did it, actually, he was firstborn - this sort of thing happens at times, I was told."
