The day was fairly overcast, and incredibly humid. Seriously. Holy s**t. How could it possibly feel this hot outside when the sun was hidden behind clouds?

Walker couldn't understand it, and he wasn't about to try. All he could do was glower at the cloudy skies while fanning himself, wishing he could get the crap out of the way now. Why did he have to wait? He was trying to think of some clever, unbelievable, INGENIOUS way of dumping the newest brat on the unsuspecting moter-to-be. And failing. Dammit.

It's been awhile, don't kick yourself in the a** about it. He thought to himself, glancing around the street as he approached the building. The name was way high up, to the point he couldn't see the company name. He knew it was some random scientific thing, though. He had the barest impression of the woman he was looking for, that she was all sciencey and such, and the feeling led him to this building. Well then, he could only assume she'd come out soon, seeing as the feeling for her had taken it's sweet time giving him a friggin' direction. Had him wandering around Durem for at least an hour.

"Waste of my time, this better be worth it. I hope to god she's some stuffy broad." If she was, then he might have some clue as to a way to set her off her rocker. Hopefully. If he talked fast enough it might work, but then, most normal people probably wouldn't believe it. But whatever. He could just 'push' her his way, till he was gone at least.

And so, he leaned against one of the walls of the skyscraper, ignoring the "No Loitering" sign and watching people as they walked by, various expressions on their faces as they complained to themselves about the ungodly, terrible weather.

((Just assuming she works at some big science thing xD Correct me if you want something else 3nodding ))

Katya walked down the hall with measured tread, her sensible flats producing no ringing footsteps like the heels on the other women - ridiculous, anyway, do they think the lab rats will like them better if they clack about? She received few greetings from those she passed, and gave none.

This did not bother her.

Her mind was full of the experiment she'd worked on today; the first sample had shown no conclusive results, and the irradiation on the second sample had utterly failed to produce the expected effect. Were her calculations wrong?

That did bother her.

She swiped her keycard through the door lock with an absent expression on her face, most of her mind whirring over equations and half-lifes, and stepped out into the late-afternoon air as the door clicked open. After the carefully climate-controlled interior of the labs, the humidity and heat were like walking into a wall. Katya scowled at it, brushed a stray lock of hair away from her face, and continued on, heading for her car without a second look around her.

Walker was whistling innocently under his breath as he heard the front door slide open with a whirr and a rush of refreshingly cold air. A woman came out with the wave of cold, and damn, did she look like a hard-a**. Eh, whatever. Either his story would work swimmingly well, or she'd completely call him out on it. Most likely the latter.

Not that it made a huge hell of a difference. But again. Whatever. Composing himself, he pulled his hair back and took a breath, and popped the little stinker into the air in front of him in a plain little carrier, gazing around her in mute wonder. He hadn't taken the silence off her yet, as he wasn't quite certain how noisy she would be.

He waited another moment, schooling his expression into one of desperate concern, nervousness, with a bit of a rush in his movements and gestures. And then...

"Ma'am! Ma'am! Wait!" He shouted at the woman's retreating back, sprinting towards her while holding the carrier awkwardly in his arms as though he'd been running around for a lot longer then he had.

"I found you, finally! I've been looking everywhere for you! You're a friggin' difficult woman to find, Ms. K. Your adoption form finally went through, and they found a perfect match for you. Here, take her." He started a long chain of chatter, going too fast to possibly interrupt as he pushed the baby carrier into the woman's arms. Intern in a rush to get back. Most definitely. Good thing he'd worn a collared shirt today, though now he thought about it it wasn't tucked in. Too late. Ah well.

Katya froze, then automatically reached out to catch the carrier before it could tumble to the ground; instead, she slowed its fall and placed it very deliberately on the asphalt between them.

Then glared.

"I'm quite sure I don't know what you're talking about," she said, in a tone that could cut glass. "But I assure you, if you don't take this..." She glanced down quickly. Normal face, brown eyes, she supposed it was cute if you liked that sort of thing. "Child.... with you, then I will be only too happy to drop it off at the nearest fire station." That was where you brought children under safe haven laws, wasn't it? She wasn't entirely sure, but she let absolutely none of that uncertainty show in her demeanor or her voice. Instead, she skewered the hapless young man with an icy stare.

She was not in the mood for this.

His chatter slowed to a halt, and he shuffled through random scrap papers from his pockets, pretending the random bits were actually important. "Erm, uh, well, uh, ma'am, a form was, uh, submitted in your name..." Walker mumbled, ever the hesitant intern.

"We found the little girl for you, she fit the description on your form. The sheet had asked for a special child, uh, I mean, not like, retarded special. I mean, handicapped special. Ah, dangit..." He rubbed the back of his neck, looking down at the little girl who was watching them both.

Damn broad, just take the friggin' thing already. This wasn't as amusing as it was supposed to be. But hard asses always liked to ruin the entertainment.

"Uh, well, she's special, as per request. Uh, not quite sure how to say this. We're not entirely sure what she is." Walker said, shaking his head. Intern saying things without tact. Of course. Expected.

"We ran all the, uhm, medical tests and stuff we usually do, there was, erh, something with her blood though, it's not normal. I mean, that's "special," right? What you had asked for?"

He stood there nervously wringing his hands, his expression praying she'd accept it while inside he gently pushed her to be just a little more receptive. Challenges were nice, but then again, so was cheating.

"I assure you, I never-" But then Katya paused, a small wrinkle appearing between her eyes as she thought. Perhaps... "This child is a subject submitted for testing?"

It was not unheard of for such things to happen; humans were required in some experiments, particularly for pharmaceuticals, though it was certainly never done in the parking lot where people might see and ask questions. She scowled at him. "You should have taken this through the secure entryway and organized an exchange with our resources department, you incompetent imbecile."

He started to quail, his face blanching at the idea of "getting fired," making his persona despair. "Erh, uh, I'm sorry, I, uh, I wasn't told I had to go through any secure thing, I was just, uhm, told you find you specifically, soon as I could. Sorrysorrysorry, Ms. Katya. Uh, here, take her, I was told go back to the, uh, agency right away."

Walker knelt down to pick up the carrier, sticking it back in the woman's arms as well as a few hastily conjured papers with random biological information on top of the baby's blanket, pulling the silent hold off the baby at this point, willing her to make as loud a racket as a brat possibly could. Not that "Ms. Katya" would know the difference between real information or fake, or probably even care what with mention of testing.

"Her name is Masha. Take good care of her, I, uh, need to get back to the, uhm, the agency now." He said hurriedly, making sure the woman wouldn't put it down again before Walker essentially took off sprinting away from her car, down the sidewalk and out of sight. As he left, his hurried, lunging steps smoothed out to longer, calmer strides, before slowing to a pleasant walk. Done. That one was more irritating to deal with them some others. He still wasn't sure why he bothered with that one, but eh. Good riddance.

Katya sighed and shook her head; the baby began to coo, and she shushed it with a single sharp tst! noise that reverberated oddly in the air. "Absolutely incompetent," she muttered, picking up the papers, making a note of the organization listed at the top so she could register a complaint, and then turned on one foot to march back into the building to present the child to the proper officials.

And then home, and then a shot of something.
