The heat of the afternoon was waning while the soft blues of the daytime sky were growing pink and orange from dusk. The shadows were long over Ista, with the worst of the heat waning and a gentle breeze wafting off from the ocean. The red star gleamed over head, harmless and picturesque, its dangers more rumor and legend than actual worry or thought. It was a picturesque evening and it wouldn't be long before the sun settled completely beneath the oceans horizon.

While many dragons were still soaking up the last of the sun, some dozing, others idling upon their ledges or getting a last minute bath or swim, one dragon was happily content upon a ridge in the heights. He was further up than usual, where company was more scarce (if such a thing could be true) and was enjoying the peace it offered.

Neck craned up at the sky, eyes whirling a slow blue, the stretched out rather plain looking bronze was content to star at the sky. One of Pern's three moons was out already, casting its sliver gaze upon the relatively peaceful planet. Though many dragons and people of Pern disregarded such things, Niyath personally harbored a fondness for nature and the small surprises it wrought.

Touching in, briefly, to see what T'loa was up to the dragon was pleased that the man was relaxing within the Dining Hall, feeding Xiazu. Despite the over crowded Ista, despite all the changes with rank and various transfers in and out, Niyath couldn't be more content. Both T'loa and he worried little over such things. . . life would sort itself out one way or another.

Peeking up at the sky, though he knew it was early, the bronze dragon searched for the twinkle of star light.

Rousing herself from a light nap, Ruinnth slowly rose to her feet and stretched languidly. With her long wings fully extended to either side, she released a deep yawn before resettling herself, crossing her forearms primly. Before she had dozed off, there had been a few dragons nearby, but as her bright aquamarine eyes surveyed the heights, she found that only one familiar figure remained. It was Niyath, and though his dusky hide helped him blend into the surrounding environment, Ruinnth would recognize him anywhere.

Far below, her rider crossed the Weyrbowl towards their weyr, but with a wordless sharing of thought, Ruinnth knew that Lyveana would be turning in shortly, and that the green's help would not be needed until morning. For a moment, Ruinnth toyed with the notion of following suit, but the breeze was nice up here, and she enjoyed few moments where her time was her own. Peering back at Niyath, she picked her head up fully and followed his gaze, watching what she thought he watched for a moment.

Are you looking for the 'Ghosts, Niyath? She queried softly, her eyes whirling faster as she adjusted her own long range vision to take in the rising moons and the stars beyond Rukbat's last rays. Around Turn's End, she knew her rider grew melancholy.. especially when the shooting stars Pernese called the Turnover Ghosts arrived. Some said they were the ghosts of departed Dragonriders, but Ruinnth knew her rider thought they were spirits of a different sort. Good or bad, Ruinnth could not recall, but she had easily made the correlation between the stars and her rider's mood.

The bronze dragon tore his gaze away from the colours of twilight, his idly whirling eyes regarding the green dragon that spoke to him. There were few dragons Niyath didn't get along with, and even fewer whose company he avoided. The dark and mottled coat of Ruinnth was easily distinguished, and the bronze understood she was (in a ways) rather famous. Her rider had been handed a most unusual position, and for some reason a green leading a wing seemed unusual. Some browns and other bronzes had grumped about it, as had his temporary weyr and wing mate, Cavaruth. Personally, Niyath didn't see what all the fuss was about . . .

But, on the other hand, Niyath wasn't exactly a very power-hungry dragon nor was his rider. Let a green take the responsibility if they could handle it. . . Furthermore, Niyath liked greens. Very much. They made for charming company so it was easy for him to take their commands or demands.

Not just the Turnover Ghosts. He replied calmly, offering Ruinnth a pleasant croon before peeking back up at the sky. But any sign of starlight. I some times forget to look up and appreciate the view over head. . . But I will remember tonight.

Silence fell, and for a moment it seemed as if that was that for conversation. The bronze wasn't a known chatter-box, though he enjoyed company a great deal. He just didn't have nearly as much to say as most, and found a great deal of peace in the quiet or was content to listen.

His pale tipped tail gave a small twitch before he dipped his head cordially at the green and added, Would the lady care to join me? It will be a splendid view tonight I think. Who cared if the starlight was usually most splendid on any night. But the few clouds present were far over the ocean and wouldn't mar their view.

Following his gaze again, Ruinnth stared upwards through the intermittent breaks in the clouds, and the conversation. Truthfully, she never took time to watch the stars, or the sky for that matter. But watching them now, she supposed she ought too. Though she had always preferred to watch things in motion, like the busy weyrbowl or the rolling ocean, there was a certain serenity that came from watching the sky at any hour.

When Niyath spoke again, she twitched, startled since she had thought he had finished speaking.

If it would not be an imposition, I would like too. She replied after a moment, gathering herself to stand, suddenly aware of a growing thirst. I will come back in a moment, it has been long since I dozed off, and I am thirsty. She added, right before she sprang clear of the cliffs and half spread her wings, angling them to put her into a steep dive towards the waterfalls of the Weyrbowl.
